There were other creatures that stalked the night other than wolves, and didn't want such things as conversation.
The horned owl Stoneeyes had awoken for his nocturnal exisistance to a strange sound: a long, moaning noise that echoed through the night. Soon this phantom noise was accomponied by several more, each one as haunting as the last. The owl allowed the sounds to ring in his ears; they were familiar somehow, but Stoneeyes couldn't lable it with a species. Deciding that this mystery musn't remain unsolved, the large bird stretched his raggedy wings and flew away from his tree.
The bright moon illuminated the ground as Stoneeyes glidedthrough the sky, his eyes scanning the earth, trying to locate the manufacturer of the noise. His reasons for this inquest were more than just curiosity: there was always the prospect of finding a new kind of eatible creature, and the owl was never one to turn his beak up at foriegn food. And, as Stoneeyes glanced down at a clump of pines, it appeared that he had succeeded in his goal. His excellent eyesight revealed a small gathering near the tell-tale sign of a recently smoldering campfire. From what he could tell, the posse mainly consisted of large, gray fox-like creatures. What were their names again? Stoneeyes couldn't quite recall. Yet he was positive he had never had the pleasure of dining on one, and since these creatures had done him the favor of coming out inthe open, it would be a snap to grab a small one and then be off. Certainly, they were larger than his usual diet of mice and voles, but the bird figured he was more than capable of achieving his goal if he got in and out quick enough.
Deciding that starting his feeding on one of these great canines was worth any potential retaliation, Stoneeyes dropped like a brick towards the earth, aiming his outstretched talons at what appeared to be a female speciman...

(Sorry. I thought because the owl was headed at you, it'd be your turn) Out of the corner of his eye Atu saw the owl racing down. He darted to the left of Selesa with his shield out in front of him. "Owl!" the fox shouted, specifically to Selesa.

With a giggle the wolf dove out of the way, and into Moonlight and Tarian. Although the movement wasn't discernible in her black face the lids of her eyes did narrow, to fix the owl with a steely gaze. Not quite a glare, due to the bemused smile flickering across her features. She hadn't need to use her sword for real in months! Now she had a excuse to be violent. With the sound of steel scraping wood the large sword was out of her sheathe and brushing a circle in the ground.
Allarin blinked, his black eyes suddenly blocked by a cloud of feathers. With a growl at the word owl he dove forward, sword out trying to cleave at the wing hovering in front of his face, constricting his vision.

With it's attention focused on the two wolves, Atu figured now would be the easiest time to end this threat. He drew his sword and took a swing at the owl, staying at enough of a distance that if he missed he wouldn't accidentally hit either of the wolves.

Stoneeyes was irritated at this turn of events. The gray fox things (what the devil were they called, again?) had been alerted of his presence a second too soon, and now they felt the need to make things difficult. Moreover at least two of them had drawn swords, and had shorn off a few raggedy feathers. The owl was stubborn: he would not be cheated out of his gourmet meal. Shifting his weight to one side, he body checked a nearby fox (just a fox, he recognized sadly. Nothing tasty about them) and delivered the foe back into his comrades. Hoping this would cause some confusion, Stoneeyes jumped towards the creatures, hoping that landing on them would give his talons a chance to maim.

Right before Atu hit the ground, his thoughts raced. He's not defeating me! I am stronger than this evil creature! He only kills for his own sake; I protect others. That's why I have to kill this thing!Enraged, Atu threw his sword at the owl before it could get within reach of any of the wolves. In the mean time he knew he would need another weapon in case he missed, so he then reached for his bow.

Moonlight quickly drew both of his daggers, knowing that his claymore would be useless at these close quarters. He threw one of the daggers straight at the owl's back, howling with delight. He hated birds, especially owls, because his fur shone like a beacon to them. Moonlight prepared to defend himself if the owl came closer.

Stoneeyes hopped closer to his prey, eagerly antipating what these creatures tasted like, when suddenly something heavy smote him on the head, causing stars to erupt infront of his eyes. The sword thrown by the fox had struck the owl with the flat of the blade, forcing the owl backwards in mid hop, sending him uncermoniously on his back. Blinking while trying to regain his senses, Stoneeyes saw something silver fly over his flat position: a knife, if he wasn't mistaken. Angered at the impetiouness of his would-be meal, the owl staggered upright, flapped his wings, and took to the sky, circling the animals. He wasn't done yet: another divebomb would do the trick. This time he selected his target as the fox, who had insolently thrown his sword at the owl (the wound was starting to welt and bleed). He would get rid of these beings one by one.

Moonlight saw through the owl's plan in an instant. "Everybody gather together and stick your weapons into the air above your head!" He raced to Atu, drawing his claymore. Moonlight slashed at the owl, hoping to fend him off before the owl struck Atu.

It looked like with the wolf in front of him he wouldn't have to worry about a direct attack from the owl, but that wasn't enough for Atu; he needed to be on the offensive. He rolled backwards to his feet, bow still in hand. He then sidesteped Moonlight and fired an arrow at the owl. It wasn't a prize winning shot, but even if the owl dodged it, it could give someone else an opening.

Stoneeyes was displeased. This had gotten annoying: the grey fox things had formed into a comppact group, and one of them was shooting arrows at him (the aim was off, but it was irritating all the same). Not even overly concerned about his own hunger anymore, the owl was determined not to be shown up by a small group of snacks. Cancelling his charge, the horned owl wheeled towards the campfire, hovering over it, looking for a still lit log. Digging through the embers tenderly, he found a large specimen, still flaming slightly, and consideribly hot. Grabbing it gingerly by a branch that had not yet been consumed by flames, the owl started to circle again quickly, raising his altitude to as to be directly above the group, where he hurridly dropped the flaming brand. If it didn't kill one of them, at least it would serve to break them out of their huddle.

"I got it! No one else move!" Atu called out as he raised his shield and ran under the burning stick. He wondered if, now that he had told everyone else not to move, the owl would realize it would be easier to target him. He pulled out another arrow to use as an improvised spear. Then, "Thunk". The would hit Atu's metal shield and bounced off harmlessly. "I know!" Atu said as he dropped the arrow and picked up the burning stick. "I'll use this until I can get to my sword," he said to himself as he ran to his sword.

Tairan ignored his companion's warning and made a lunge at the owl intruder, aiming for its throat. He'd faought one or two owls before, along with several other creatures. His preferred weapons were his teeth and claws, and they hadn't failed him yet.

At that point, Atu had picked up his sword. 'What to do now,' he thought. He couldn't uses his arrows now, because he might hit Tairan. The owl might fly off before he could get in with his sword. He couldn't thow his sword or shield for the same reason he couldn't shoot. He charged in with his sword, taking his chances that Tarian could keep it busy long enough for him to get a shot in on the owl.
