Appearance:
Age: 24 years
Species: Pure Ferret/Ferret
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Drask is an average sized ferret, and has icy blue eyes, the trademark of the Darkfang family. He has the solid white fur of a Pure Ferret and takes extreme pride in his royal background. Despite his only average size, he keeps himself in top physical condition, which more than makes up for his average height. It helps that he was also quite fast and athletic, more so than his brother. He is a handsome ferret, not only does he insure he is physically fit, he insures that his fur is always clean and groomed, fitting the role of king quite well.Belongings:
Drask wears crimson colored, light battle armor, a black tunic, a black cape, and slick looking black sea-boots. The armor he wears covers his vital organs, and is fully functional, allowing him to maneuver in combat easily. Especially in dueling with his saber, that is why he wears light armor in the first place. It is painted crimson, looking strangely like the color of blood, giving the Pure Ferret a rather impressive look. Being the king of Riftgard, he wear the crown that was passed down from generation to generation of Pure Ferrets; a gold crown that is rather small, like a head band, and the crown has three jewels on the front. Two emeralds on the left and right, which symbolize the land, a diamond in the center of the two emeralds, which symbolizes the wealth and power of Riftgard.
Drask favors a saber that once belonged to his mother, which has a large emerald in the hilt, two daggers, and on occasion, he carries a longbow or dirk. .Job or Position:
Drask is the king of Riftgard, the powerful Pure Ferret empire.Personality:
Drask is nothing like his brother Vrelt. He is cool, calculating and rarely reckless, something he inherited from his mother. His subjects in Riftgard mostly agree that he is just, but extremely firm in his rule, keeping the entire island under his thumb. He is a skilled tactician, a beast who constantly studies all there is to know about war, taking special interest in his enemies strategy. Drask feels the best way to beat an enemy is to predict what he will do, a talent that few beasts possess. He is calm under pressure, easily taking command in a dire situation, and he displays a natural ability to lead other beasts. His army respects Drask for these qualities, and they would follow him to hellgates if he ordered them to. Though the majority of the time he is calm, on occasion his fiery temper flashes through, one of the few traits from his father that he has. It takes a lot to get him mad, but when he does, nobeast wants to be around him. He enjoys wine, especially rich damson wine, but rarely to the point of over drinking. Drask is incredibly skilled with the saber, one of the best swordbeasts around, just like his father once was.History and Background Information:
He is passionate about his responsibilities, putting them ahead of almost everything else. His wife, Callista, is one of the very few who can gain his attention away from his duties as king. Along those lines, Drask's only real love in his life is Callista; she is immensely important to him, meaning that she is the only beast that Drask would put his life on the line for.
Drask was born on the island of Riftgard, to the current leader of the island, Kralak Darfang. A beast that was not well respected as king. Kralak had begun his rule wisely, but as he went on, the power went to his head. To explain, one must realize the form of the Pure Ferret families on Riftgard. The Darkfang's had been in power the past one hundred and fifty years, keeping the other families from taking Riftgard. Their are currently four families of Pure Ferrets on the island, each of them making huge contributions to politics there, but with only one at a time holding power there. In the past, these families fought over the fortress, but in recent times, they have made peace, leading to a golden age. That is, until Kralak came to power.Any other details:
Drask's father became oppressive to the other families, arranging the "accidental" deaths of several key members of each family. And he betrayed his own wife, which resulted in Vrelt and Virek. The other families plotted to have him removed, but he was far too powerful to be killed. It turned out that it was his dealings with other ferret females that got him killed. Drask was only a few months old when his father began having trouble with his female friends. Kralak's wife immediately left Riftgard with Drask, once she learned of the birth of Vrelt, taking him to Akkladia, to the protection of her family.
The first few years of Drask's life were peaceful, living on the well kept island of Akkladia, under his mother's protection. By the time he was seven, the young ferret was already smarter than most vermin, taking his studies very seriously, much to the delight of his mother. She knew that her son was destined for greatness, it was too bad she didn't live to see him reach that greatness.
Kralak invaded Akkladia, killing Drask's mother, and taking his heir back to Riftgard, leaving most of Akkladia in ruins. Drask was shocked, and thrown into a period of despair; he knew that Kralak was telling the truth, his mother told him all about the beast that betrayed her. Even if the young ferret was taken from his home, his mother dead, he realized his future lie tangled with his father, and his half-brother, Vrelt. So he tried his best to forget his mother, focusing on besting Vrelt at everything, and learning all he could. He took his studies far more serious than Vrelt, and Kralak found that his firstborn, son (by only a few days) was ideal as his heir.
At the time of Drask being taken to Riftgard, another son was born to Kralak, Vrelt's brother, Virek. Drask and Virek got along well as the two grew up together, unlike Vrelt, who hated his half-brother. The three were looked two as the future of Riftgard by the army, and the commanders viewed Vrelt as the most likely heir to the throne, seeing as he was the better fighter between him and Drask. While the families of Pure Ferrets saw Drask as the rightful heir.
By the time Vrelt and Drask were sixteen, their father's empire began to unravel and divide, splitting up between those who supported Drask, and who supported Vrelt. Kralak was then assassinated, killed in his sleep, by one of his female associates, who was apparently paid by one of the families to get rid of Kralak. After his death, all hell broke lose. The army declared Vrelt leader and took the fortress, while the royal families backed Drask. It was a stand still, with the navy and Ratguards backing Drask as well. The two sides determined that a duel between Drask and Vrelt would decide the true ruler. When the strictly sword duel began, Drask showed what the army did not see; a swift and cunning opponent, who made quick work of Vrelt, though he did not kill his brother. Drask offered his brother his life, allowing him to leave, taking a ship filled with the remains of his followers. That began Drask's reign.
The Pure Ferret was just, earning the respect of the vermin who called Riftgard home, as well as the army's, who saw Drask as a reincarnation of Czeck Darkfang, Drask's great-grandfather. He strengthened the army and navy, training them personally and laying out dozens of strategies and a new system of command, keeping the army in complete organization. By the time he was nineteen, his name was know throughout the seas, and many seabeasts flocked to Riftgard, bringing in recruits from everywhere, some from the Northlands, fleeing the massive wars, and some from Mossflower looking for something better to do with their lives. Drask also had the other royal families under his thumb, they were pleased with his rule, and made no attempts to remove him. The young ferret started out extremely well as king.
Until he was twenty-three, Drask did not marry. He had a relationship with one of the Pure Ferrets in one of the royal families, but that was short lived. She could not take the life of Drask's partner in the royal court, and she left, abandoning Riftgard, making a run for who knows where. Drask later met his future wife at a large meeting of some of the most powerful vermin leaders around. Callista struck him with her sharp tongue more than her good looks at the meeting, and initially, he did not get along with the Pure Ferret. But they say opposites attract, the two had become friends, it was a strange friendship, however. They constantly were at each others' throats, attacking with words, never with actual violence though. It looked as if they would never get along that well, but in a years time, they had become close enough that Callista left her home, and came to Riftgard. They were married recently, and have shared the rule of the island for only a few months. Their relationship is still filled with plenty of "debates," but the two seem almost made for each other.
Drask is Vrelt and Virek Darkfang's brother, and the husband of Callista.
