When Jayne woke the next morning the first thing that occurred to her was the fact that there wasn't a deck gently rocking beneath her, though her head was slightly spinning. Her next realization was that she was in a very comfortable bed. That was strange, so she tried to remember the sequence of events that had brought her here.
The warlord Vrelt had asked her to join he and his daughter for the rest of their meal. She had eaten well and translated when she was called upon to do so. The last thing she remembered translating was the explanation to the girl that the servant was taking her to her new room. And then what? . . .
There had been wine with the meal. Jayne had never been much of a drinker (mostly because fine drinks were not offered to her) and had already begun to feel the easing of her inhibitions before the child had left the table. She drank another glass to be polite to her host, and another because it did taste rather good. And then . . .
What followed was hazy in her mind, and it gave her a headache to try to put it in order, but she attempted none the less to make sense of it all. She remembered a playful chase down the hall and asking Vrelt if all their laughing and carrying on would wake the child. Then Vrelt said . . . VRELT! By the Claw! Why was she thinking of the ruler of Riftgard by his first name?!
It was only then that she chanced a look next to her and saw him lying there. Gates! What had she done?! She lifted the blanket, found that she was starkers, and pulled it up to her chin again. Then she looked around the room for something she could put on. Her uniform was nowhere to be seen but there was what looked to be a robe lying on a bench a few feet away.
After one glance back at sleeping ferret next to her she made a brake for it grabbed the robe and pulled it on quickly tying the belt around her waist. But what to do now? She knew she'd be lost in the huge palace if she left this room and she didn't exactly want any other creature to see her like this. And then there was the headache that suddenly and painfully re-announced itself. She shouldn't have gotten up so quickly. With a dizzy stumble she sat back down on the bed.

The warlord would have remained sleeping longer, had Jayne not sat back down on the bed. It shook Vrelt to awaken, disorientated, but not nearly as much as the ferretmaid was. Blinking sleep from his eyes, the ferret immediately knew where he was; his bed chamber that was separate from his throne room. With a sudden realization all of yesterday's events flooded back into his aching head; meeting his long lost daughter, a near conflict with Captain Englehorn, all the information that Draygo had given him seemed to jumble together in his mind, it made no sense. Then several other memories were there, asking Jayne to join with Tallula and himself to polish off their meal, and then he remembered lots of drinking which continued after his sent his daughter to her new room. Drinking too much in one setting did crazy things to a beast's mind, and this was no different, one other thing came to his mind as he laid in his bed, staring up at the high sealing, Jayne accompanied him to his chambers last night.....
Within a second of remembering that, the ferret turned quickly and caught sight of Jayne at the edge of the bed. So it wasn't his imagination. What he recalled from last night really did happen, and Jayne ended up in his bed after too much wine, but still, he was a bit shocked to see her there, "Jayne! What are you... How in hellgates..." He broke off from stammering like a fool and put a paw to the side of his head, trying to ward off the aftereffects of too much wine, and he slowly sat up, keeping the blanket clutched to him with his other paw. "D***. Bloody wine." His head felt clearer since waking up, but the ferret still had trouble thinking straight; somehow Vrelt managed to speak. "I think we both apparently drank to much last night..." Vrelt didn't know what else to say, and he strangely pitied the ferretmaid, she certainly didn't deserve to be taken advantage of in that way.
Vrelt quickly scanned the bed chamber for something to put on, but his slightly blurry vision prevented him from spotting anything, maybe there was something, but he sure couldn't see it. The ferret slowly looked back at Jayne, debating how to handle this situation, nothing came to mind, however. So he decided to allow the ferretmaid to speak first. Vrelt didn't feel that guilty after last night, though, and he wished he hadn't been so intoxicated when they came back to his room. A slight smile slowly spread across the warlord's lips, and he patiently waited for Jayne to speak. His icy blue eye lit up with a hint of some emotion, which may have been interpreted by the ferretmaid as humor, or even slight affection, another emotion he rarely displayed. This was indeed an interesting situation that the two ferrets had gotten themselves into.

Tallula had already been awake, though she is walking through the halls and looking around casually, she was almost as silent as a cat. She had actually startled a few of Vrelt's Ratguards and horde members just by walking past them from behind. A trait from her mink kind none of the less. Keeping silent was very important in the New World. For both avoiding trouble and catching food.
She was looking through the fortress to see the "sights and scenes" of the place. From the dinning room, to the armory, to the supply room and the kitchen. She even snuck into other beast's bedrooms without even awaking them. Though she didn't really take anything... Maybe a dagger though and a sash, but that's pretty much it. Though of course she was not carrying them around with her. She had hide them inside her bed by cutting a 2 or 3 inch cut into the side of her bed and slid both of them inside. With the covers on and being a place few beasts were allowed in. No beast would really ever know she took them.
She was now exploring one of the towers of the massive stone fortress, walking up the spiral stairs to the very top...
Conan was not awake yet. He was still very much asleep in his cambers, which was decorated to his desire. His weapons hung on one of the walls, some sea maps on the top of a dresser, a sea gull skull on the dresser top as well along with some shark and sea monster teeth, bag of silver coins and other loot, various underwear vixens had "accidentally" forgotten to put back on during his trips to Taverns in the Far Western Islands and recently now due to his paycheck, Sampetra.
Nolan was asleep also. His room was not changed much compared to most beast's rooms. The only major distinguish was the many many maps he had all over the place and his sword along with other Renaissance swords hanging on the wall. He also had a lot of nice fancy or plan clothing in his wardrobe. There were also a lot of paintings and artist's equipment around. Showing he was in ways a good artist. He also had a rather large bag of both silver and a few gold coins under his bed. Profit from both his job under Vrelt and selling his artwork to some of the soldiers and visitors.
Serkan of course as asleep too. His room was a searat's room, messy and not very cleans. Things and items put wherever he felt like putting them, some weapons were hung on the walls, some against the walls and finally some laying on the floor, silver coins everywhere, belts and tunics and shirts of various cleanliness or dirtiness in both wardrobe, sticking out of the dresser drawers and on the floor. You get the picture.
Derik the mongoose was duh. Asleep.... Very lightly though. His room was mostly clean and had all of his clothing and weapons at the right places. On the wall and in the wardroom and dresser drawers, a bag of silver coins on the dresser top along with a dozen necklaces of various snake fangs and teeth, and finally. A few paintings of scorpions and desert scenes given to him by Nolan...... For a price of course.

The sound of his voice startled her but it was his words that hurt. It had been a mistake. They had both been drinking too much and now he didn't want her here. She was still facing away from him sitting on the edge of the bed so she didn't see the humor or affection in his smile. She only felt unwanted and terribly disloyal to her captain.
Oh Gates, Draygo! Not that the captain had ever approached her other than that one kiss. So why did this feel so wrong? She was free, wasn't she? She did not belong to Draygo Englehorn.
Jayne was afraid to turn around and face the warlord. His tone hadn't quite sounded angry but he didn't sound happy to find her there beside him, either. The only thing she could think to do was apologize. "I am sorry, Your Majesty. I never meant . . . I had no idea how it would affect me. I certainly never thought . . ." Some how nothing she said sounded quite right so she lapsed back into silence, pulling the robe closer around herself, and still she did not turn to look in his direction.

As Vrelt listened to the ferretmaid issue apologies for all that happened last night, his teeth clenched together. He got Jayne into this mess and now he made her feel as if she had done something wrong. His mouth always did cause him problems with other beasts, this situation was no different.
The ferret's vision continued to clear as he sat up in the bed, again scanning the room for any of his clothes. They were more than likely scattered around in his throne room, but he couldn't remember if he left them there. Vrelt quickly spotted his pair of black corsair pants laying on the floor at he edge of the room, so the warlord moved rapidly to grab them. He slipped out from under the blanket while Jayne was still turned away from him and pulled the pants on. The warlord surveyed the room again, just to make sure none of his clothes or Jayne's remained his chambers.
Vrelt stood for a moment at the other side of the bed from were Jayne was sitting, silently contemplating exactly what to do now. He made up his mind after several minutes of silence which probably concerned the ferretmaid. The warlord strode around the bed to where Jayne was, with a soft look on his face. He placed a paw lightly under the ferretmaid's chin and raised her head so that their eyes would meet, "Don't apologize, Jayne. You did nothing wrong. And seeing as we're on a first name basis now, just call me Vrelt when no other beast is around, none of that "Your Majesty" stuff when it's just us." The ferret stayed silent for a second after speaking, his icy eyes locked on Jayne's green ones, seemingly lost there. He tore his eyes away and turned, chuckling as he headed toward the door. "Come on. Let's go find the rest of our clothes. They're probably laying out in the hallway or in my throne room right now, just waiting for some other beast to find them."

It wasn't until his gaze left hers that Jayne realized she had been holding her breath the entire time he had been speaking. Those icy blue eyes had started to bring back some of the faded memories from the night before. She blushed under her fur. And then that phrase came back to her, when it's just us. It was as if he expected there to be more such occasions. "Yes, Your. . . " she almost forgot and used the old title again. Then she smiled shyly at him and continued with the air of somebeast who knew this was an honor not many creatures were granted, "Vrelt." She let his name hang on the air for a moment before standing, slower this time, and following after him toward the throne room, still with the robe clutched around her.

The warlord opened the door, hoping there wasn't any other beast in his throne room at the time, that would be rather awkward. Vrelt scanned the room for any of their pieces of clothing, and he spotted his tunic almost immediately. He picked it up with a smile, "Strange how my tunic ended up all the way over here." The ferret pulled the deep blue tunic on, and resumed the search for their clothing. His thoughts returned again to Jayne; what a streak of luck he was on right now. First he discovered Tallula, the he found a translator and much more in this ferretmaid, everything was going his way.
Vrelt did expect there to be more occasions like this, now that Jayne had spent that one night with him, he wasn't about to let the lovely ferretmaid slip through his fingers easily. That Captain Englehorn would be disappointed when he returned and discovered that Vrelt would not let Jayne come back to join his crew. Of course, if the ferretmaid truly wanted it, he wouldn't stop her. Though he thought that she would probably end up staying with him in place of Draygo now.
The ferret pointed to a grayish colored shirt laying down at the edge of the room, "There's something," He broke off as he caught sight of the pants that the ferretmaid had been wearing, which were hanging off one of the swords he had displayed on the walls. "I wonder how that got up there. We must have drank more wine than I thought." A broad smile lit the face of the ferret as he looked back at Jayne, it must have been some night for the two, but it was all jumbled around in his head, there wasn't much he could remember about it.

Jayne held back in the doorway and watched him for a moment. She marveled at how the blue tunic intensified the color of his eyes. Then when she caught herself staring she sprung into action. She bent swiftly to retrieve her shirt and then hurried over to the wall where her pants hung on display. They were out of her reach when she stood on tippaws so she had to jump to catch hold of them. As she jumped she felt the fabric of the robe rise in the back, showing more of her leg than she would normally have been comfortable with, but then the warlord had obviously seen much more than that the night before.
The ferretmaid blushed at the thought and gave the pants a tug to release them from their perch. There was a loud rip and the gray fabric fell down over her ears.
"Oh No!" She held the pants up to assess the damage. "This is all I brought from the ship. I had no idea I'd be staying." The word staying was rather vague in her mind. She was still unsure of what the duration of the stay would be. For a moment she thought of Jimmy and the others and Draygo. . .
((I was rather wondering if Vrelt wanted to see her back in Drago's colors anyway. It is most likely his robe she's wearing, isn't it? Oh and Tallula is welcome to interrupt any time))

The warlord didn't fail to notice how Jayne stared at him from across the room, though it was only for a brief moment, but it was enough for Vrelt to establish that Jayne was indeed attracted to him without the effects of wine. That was step one.
After the ferretmaid stretched up to grab her pants from their position on the sword, he also caught a brief look as the robe pulled up higher over her leg. And though he knew he saw more than that last night, he had trouble remembering it, this did help his memory more than a bit, and Vrelt returned that same brief stare that Jayne directed at him moments ago. After she pulled down the garment, but succeeded in ripping it, the ferret strode over to stand beside her. "I'll have to get you new clothes as well as Tallula, I don't believe that you want to go around Riftgard with only that robe on."
Vrelt glanced around the room again, searching for his cape which was nowhere to be seen. It must have been in the hallway. "Well, seeing as that's all of our clothes in the throne room, I'll escort you to go find some new clothes, and get Tallula on the way." The ferret debated whether to bring Jayne out of his chambers while she was only wearing that robe, but he decided to take her along, for he knew nothing about picking clothes. Vrelt yawned widely as he stepped away from the ferretmaid, making his way for the large door that guarded his throne room.

Tallula had just gotten done exploring one of the towers and was now planning on going to the throne room for a break, or at lest a short nap on the throne. The throne was a good place to nap. Maybe even more than the bed. She bets daddy chief may sleep on that throne a lot...
The mink silently walked into the throne room and jumped up at the throne, it was huge and it required her to make a small jump to grab the ledge, from there through. She would easily be able to climb up and take her nap.
She make a tiny jump and jumped up the throne seat, than allowed herself to take a small nap and slumber...

Jayne started to follow Vrelt out of the throne room but then she heard the footsteps of the little mink and watched the child climb up into the big chair. Tallula hadn't seemed to have noticed the adult ferrets on the other side of the room and Jayne couldn't bear to disturb her. She just looked so sweet sleeping there.
"Vrelt," the ferretmaid whispered laying a gentle paw on his arm. She didn't think that he had seen his daughter enter the room and she wanted to show him what a precious sight it was that she had climbed up into his chair and fallen asleep. "Look there . . ." she pointed.
Jayne wasn't sure why, maybe it was because she was the only beast here to could actually speak to the child, but Tallula had awakened in her some sort of nurturing instinct that she hadn't known existed until this point. Poor little thing, so far from home in a castle full of male beasts with nobeast to talk to, and trying to understand what was going on when everybeast spoke a language she didn't know.
She tippawed silently back over to the throne an something caught her eye sticking out from behind the great chair. She had the vague memory of stashing the cape there after somebeast had tossed her own clothing out of her reach, and a smile touched her lips. With a gentle tug she removed the kingly garment from its hiding place. Then with a quick glance and a smile back at its owner, she tucked the cape around the sleeping child.

Vrelt turned as Jayne directed his attention to the throne; where his daughter had fallen asleep. Despite being a feared ruler, the ferret felt a soft stop for Tallula and couldn't help but smile at the sight. His smiled widened as Jayne pulled out his cape from behind the throne; so that's where it was, the memory came to mind of the ferretmaid putting it there as he tossed her clothes away from her.
The ferret stayed where he was, silently waiting for Jayne to come back over to him so that they could go get her new clothes. His daughter would be fine in his throne room by herself, for his guards were posted at each end of the hallway, always ready to defend their leader. Vrelt had his eyes, at first, locked fondly on his daughter, but after a few seconds passed by, he couldn't help but look at the ferretmaid, who was extremely close to capturing his affection, after less than a day of meeting her. The ferret had trouble tearing his icy gaze away from Jayne, but he managed it, turning to the large door and placing a paw on the handle, then he spoke softly. "Come on. Let's leave her there and go get those clothes."

"I'm coming," Jayne whispered, but before she did the ferretmaid smoothed back the fur on the little mink's forehead. "Sleep well, Princess." Then she tippawed back to where Vrelt was waiting for her. She remained quiet until they were out in the hallway with the throneroom door shut behind them. "You know, I really don't mind staying to teach Tallula. I can imagine what she must be going through: in a new place with new creatures and not being able to understand anybeast."

The warlord nodded, "Good. I'm glad you feel you can stay here. I appreciate that more than mere words can state, Jayne." Vrelt started off down the stone hallway on that note, not waiting for the ferretmaid to reply, he had his share of soft moments this morning, at least for a little while. It would be difficult to act serious for more than necessary today, and any other day for that matter, controlling himself to listen to reports from his advisers was hard enough, without having to keep a straight face throughout the day. Vrelt still longed for the days when he was a corsair, with no kingdom that needed his constant attention.
Vrelt lead the ferretmaid through the hallways, moving at a brisk pace like he always tended to do. They past quickly by the beasts who were already up and about this morning, going about their business and jobs. For the most part, he ignored them, determined to find one particular beast before she left for he kitchens.

Jayne merely nodded this time in response. She could tell by his change of tone that now they were out of his private chambers. She mustn't forget that he was still the ruler of Riftguard and she was hardly better than a slave, no matter how tenderly those icy eyes looked at her when they were alone. The ferretmaid was well practiced in the role of service, however, and she followed behind her new master dutifully, eyes down cast.
She pulled the robe around herself tighter once more. The beasts they past in the hall may have looked at their leader with respect but she saw more than a few eyebrows raised in her direction. She knew the hierarchy of servants in great houses and where she would have normally been the equal or lesser of any of these creatures she had taken a huge leap forward in the ranking by sharing the master's bed. They would never accept her as one of their own. She was in that awkward in-between place, neither slave nor royal. It made her feel as Tallula must feel, that she didn't even speak their language.
Once again Jayne was reminded of her time with Crailius . . .
"Chain 'im up next t' the ferretmaid. She probly won't last much longer anyway, need some beast t' take up the slack."
Jayne hardly even realized that the taskmaster rat was talking about her but she felt the shift of weight on the bench beside her that announced somebeast being roughly forced into that position. She looked up weakly at her new oar mate. He was fighting them off bravely and yelling curses in some unknown language until one of the slavers gave him a clout over the back of his head. Then the brawny creature of a species the ferretmaid had never seen before slumped limply next to her. His head fell onto her shoulder and she bent further under his weight.
"What'd y' have t' go an' do that for?"
"It was th'only way t'get him t'be still fer chainin' 'im up."
The rat and stoat argued some more while Jayne got a better look at the mink. Yes, that's what they had called him. His fur looked as if it would have been soft and full if not been matted with sweat and blood and dirt. He was a warrior and no mistake. She wondered how they had ever managed to capture him. . .
"Look she is livin' after all. I seen 'er move just then." The stoat pointed at Jayne.
"Good," the rat answered roughly having finished securing the unconscious mink to the oar. "She can pull a little longer till this one wakes up."
