"Alright," Kara walked to the door ahead of him and waved at her fellow workers. Oh yes they would surely be telling tales about her tonight. She would have stuck her tongue out at them if she didn't think the Major was watching her every move and would think her even younger than he already did. Instead she just smiled smugly, "See you in the morning everybeast."
She heard the squirrel mumble, "if she's not still passed out from drink or too sore between the legs to walk."
Kara turned her head away and hurried out the door. She hoped the Major hadn't heard the comment either. "Hey" she said to distract him. "What am I supposed to call you anyway. My name is Kara."

The sharp ears of the major did catch the comment that the squirrel slave mumbled, it was not her place to say anything like that, she was the lowest of the low, with no right to insult a servant or much less a major in Drask's army. Alexander ignored the beast though, but he would remember that squirrel's face, she wouldn't get off lightly for saying things like that, even if they had a level of truthfulness to them.
He answered the martenmaid's question once they were on their way down the path, "I'm called Alexander Feron. Call me Major for now." Alex didn't think a servant deserved the privilege of calling him by his name, at least not yet. But this Kara was going to be with him for a while, hopefully, so he decided to let her use that name. "Second thought, just call me Alex."

((what do you say we find the squirrelmaid in the stocks in the morning with a generous amount of very ripe tomato matted into her fur?))
Kara was not so dense as to not know that calling the Major by his first name was a privilege few beasts shared. As such her voice carried a more respectful note when she uttered the syllable before she resorted again to her regular teasing. "Alex, where are we going? There are several adequate taverns in the area. Did you have something specific in mind?"
She had been wondering since she had heard the squirrelmaid's comment if drinks really were all Alex had in mind. She would get a better idea of this by knowing which tavern he would choose. Some of them were well known for their food, others for their drink and still others for their lodging accommodations.
Kara was reasonably sufficient at holding her liquor. She as every creature born and raised on Sampetra had gone through the dry spells when the water was bad and they had to subside on ale till the rains came again. Her small size was against her in this but she could still out drink males twice her size if they weren't used to the affects of alcohol.
As for the squirrelmaid's other prediction, Kara was more worried. She knew exactly what went on between males and females and could rattle off some very detailed descriptions of acts that had been committed by residents of the island, but as of yet she had not been touched by a male in that way. Still it had to happen some time and better that it was with a male of her own species. If he was willing to shell out gold for a 'good' room he might be apt to be gentler with her than if it didn't matter to him where they went.
So Kara waited rather impatiently for him to divulge the destination of their stroll.

((Yeah, that's what's going to happen to the impudent squirrel. LOL))
Alexander was a selective beast, and only one tavern suited him at Sampetra, a tavern that only served sea captains, and officers in Drask's army. It made much money from all of the bored soldiers that spent their time there, Alex always came here. The tavern wasn't particularly famous for its lodging, but it was easily the cleanest place for anybeast to stay, if they had enough money to pay for the ridiculous boarding fees, not to mention the high prices of drinks and food there. Alex preferred it to any of the regular taverns, for most of beasts inside wouldn't ask him any questions, at least the General's beasts would ask him no questions. Plus the food was sometimes even better than what was served in the palace, and the wine was the best at Sampetra, ale and the rest was about average, for not many of the beasts who came there ordered just plain ale.
"As a matter of fact, I'll take you to a tavern you've never been to before. I'm sure you have heard about the place where most of the General's officers go when they have time and money to spend." Alexander wasn't very concerned about the same thing Kara was, the second thing the squirrel slave mumbled about didn't have the same effect on him. He would only pay for a room for them if she wished it, drunk or not, but Alex would allow Kara to choose her own fate. The major would have liked it if she wished to share a room tonight, the two could start tonight, but Alex would prefer if they stuck together longer than one night. Alexander wasn't sure they would get along very well, more than a few days, if Kara was no more than a young, immature martenmaid, she could change though. He hoped she turned out better than just a kid.

Of course Kara knew the tavern he was speaking of but she had never known anybeast who could afford it. "The Oasis?!" she squeaked sounding more like her young age then ever. She cleared her throat and controlled her voice better when she spoke again. "That sounds very nice."
She walked along beside him matching his stride but she almost could have led him there for as well as she knew the island. Soon they were standing at the doors and the lights from the windows dazzled the martenmaid's eyes.

Cander decided he needed a good cheer up. One of his fellow soldiers said he and a few others was going to a tavern called "The Oasis" for some fun, he should join up with them! The pine marten walked with a new stroll in his stride..... Slightly. It was hard to shrug of years of wonderful service, but it was gone now and he would never come back there to see it still standing.
Kaiser was already at the Tavern, the muscular, but average height stoat was young and was only a grunt during his time at the royal family military. Joining in past because his older brother did when he was taken from his abusive parents. He himself had ran away from they're parents in the past. Living by himself as a thief and a bandit til he found out his brother joined the military.
This particular creature. Was Krauser's little brother. His group's knight had died in battle soon near the end of the war and he took the knight's place in command. Doing an ok job at being a leader and winning some and losing some. After the war and the destruction of they're home land. They became pirates like so many other. With Kaiser as the captain.
(There were a few other captain associated with the royal family army as well but Kaiser was the most important one of the bunch. I'll give the names of the other sooner or later. This i promise you.)
Cander finally made it there. No more than a few feet away from it. It did not look too bad of a place, though he had seen much better. It had the look of a place that was better than others but more likely had ridiculous prices for they're food and drink. Though this was a first-look judgment.

"Yes, the Oasis." Alexander's smile melted away as she squeaked out those words, she did sound like she was far younger than twenty. It bothered him to an extent, but not too badly, he could put up with her and her naive, immature personality. The major pulled open the door and allowed Kara to go ahead of him, but he caught sight of something that surprised him; yet another Pine Marten showed up. How many of them were at Sampetra tonight? Alex didn't pay any attention to the other beast, for he had no wish for him to meet Kara now, the major didn't want to lose her to some other beast. After he walked into the tavern, a weasel addressed him, "Major Feron, welcome back. I'll get a table ready for you, sir. Please wait right here." The weasel walked away from his post at the door, and gave orders to several of the barmaids, who quickly started cleaning a table that was just occupied by another one of Drask's officers.
The weasel returned less than a minute later, "Major, you and your guest may take a seat at that table, and I'll have a beast over there in just a minute. Enjoy your stay at the Oasis, sir, and," He wasn't sure how to address the young looking Pine Marten, so he stayed neutral, "Ma'am."

Kara's brown eyes were everywhere taking in every item and every creature. If he decided he didn't want her and kicked her out now she would already have the substance of a thousand stories just from this small glimpse of the fabled Oasis. Of all of the things that she took in of course she didn't fail to notice another member of their own species. She had just been about to point out the other marten when the weasel returned and called her 'Ma'am'.
"Thank you," she smiled prettily. Young she may be but she knew how to act around beasts like this. Now was the time to bring to mind everything her mother had taught her. Kara straightened her shoulders and altered her expression. The effect was striking, making her appear much older than her 17 years.

Too late. Cander already noticed both of them when he had entered. He ALSO had caught Kara's suddenly appearance change from younger girl to older looking women. Though he believed the marten maid was maybe 18 or 19 tops. (A miscalculation he may later regret in the future.) He was not sure. He had seen beasts in the age of 16 or 18 and they somehow looked older compared to some of they're fellow students and soldiers, the other pine marten looked much older though. Which gave Cander believe that they likely are brother and sister. Maybe.
The pine marten approached them with an waving paw. "Well look at what we have here... There a pine marten meeting that i was not invited too? Your the first pine martens i had ever met in years." The marten smiled at Kara and offered a paw to Alex. "The names Alcander, everyone called me Cander though. Those who knew me well."

Alexander pleasantly noted the sudden change in attitude of the martenmaid, she did look a bit older now, it pleased him immensely to see her appearance change for the better. He kept his expression cool as the other Pine Marten came over to them, though he liked seeing another member of his rare species, he would have preferred to meet him without Kara around. This Alcander probably didn't realize that he was competition for the major, just by appearing at the tavern and introducing himself to the martenmaid made Alex more cautious now. The major didn't forget his manners, however, and he warmly shook the paw that was offered to him, and forced himself to smile a bit at Cander. "Please to meet you, Alcander. I'm Alexander Feron, one of General Darkfang's officers." He didn't introduce Kara to him, Alex allowed the martenmaid to speak for herself.

Kara's smile widened but she forced herself not to giggle. "Pleased to meet you, Cander." She used the nickname easily. "My name is Kara." She looked back and forth between the males and bit her lip waiting to see what would happen next. She was sure she could feel the sexual tension increase with every passing moment. She was after all, she was fairly sure, the only female pine marten on the island. Well, except for Mother and she hardly counted as long past her prime as she was.
Kara also looked around at the other beasts in the establishment. She wondered if any of them were looking at her and almost thought of doing something to gain their attention. But then maybe these to males would fight over her. That would be better than any disturbance she could create on her own.
Hoping to continue the drama the little martenmaid looped her arm around Alex's. He was after all the beast who had brought her. The gesture was in no way meant to appear sibling-like as her other paw lazily caressed the arm she held. And while her paws were busy with one beast her eyes stayed locked on the other. To Cander she gave a coy smile that could have meant something like, Play your cards right and I could be on your arm instead of his.
Aloud however she only said, "Shall we get something to drink, Gentlebeasts?"

"Kara. That's a nice name" The pine marten replied as returned her smile with a nice grin of his own. Though he quickly changed his attention slightly too whom he would soon think of as a the 2nd new friend he was be making on island. "Major huh? I see you been doing your job well. Who's this General Darkfang?"
The pine marten caught the coy smile aimed at him. He wonder if that was a sign of something sparking between them. Or maybe it's just a sign of cleverness and wit. He had seen it before in some of the other female knights in the Royal Family Army. He replied almost instantly to her when she spoke. A trait taken in from generations of beasts who served before him, beasts used to giving or taking orders and responding both immediately and accordingly. "Sure. I just hope the price for drinks doesn't rape." (Meaning "I hope it's not ridiculously expensive.)
Again the pine marten's attention was turned back to the other beast. Alexander. To listen about what he had to say about his general. Nothing made Cander more happy than hearing war storied and the biography of military beasts.

This little martenmaid might be more trouble than she was worth; he didn't fail to catch the smiles that passed between Kara and Cander. Alexander normally would have liked the way she caressed his arm, but it disturbed him how Kara was playing her own little game now, with him and Cander. The major kept his expression neutral as he replied to the fellow Pine Marten, "You've never heard of General Darkfang? Well, he hasn't been around long, just five years. Long enough to put together the most formidable army since Czek Darkfang's Horde, though. Brilliant strategist, too. But anybeast could tell you that much, he's become more well known throughout these islands than anywhere else recently."
Alexander would tell this beast more, at a later time, if they had such an opportunity. Right now, he was going to concentrate on not losing Kara to him, he didn't plan on allowing the first Pine Marten he had seen in a long time to run off with this Alcander. If first appearances said anything, then he could best this Pine Marten in a fight, if it came down to fighting over Kara, he didn't want to battle this Pine Marten, but if it was over Kara, he would do so willingly. Alexander looked down at her briefly, and gave her a smile, before glancing back over to Cander, "Oh it sure does. Prices are higher here than anywhere else at Sampetra." He would play along in Kara's game, but he fully intended to win, he wasn't about to be beaten by a sly martenmaid or a beast a couple years younger than him.

Kara tried not to show how much Cander's choice of words rattled her. She knew she was playing a dangerous game and that not only hearts were at stake here. In fact it was actually easier for her to figure for the non heart related eventualities. The little martenmaid's heart had never been tested by so much as a crush on another beast. And now here were to males who were obviously vying for her affections. Could she love one of them? What if they fought then?
The story just became a lot more complicated. Her voice was meeker the next time she spoke, "We should take a seat at our table so we can order."
Mother never told her about the 'feelings' part. Sex: yes, her reputation: of course but not the way it would feel to know no matter what happened she would have to break one of their hearts eventually.

"He sounds like one hell of a beast. The Royal Family Military could have used a creature like him. If he was anywhere near the Middle Kingdoms that is." Cander was starting to realize that these two may not be the brother and sister he had thought they were and had unknowingly clashed with the male pine marten. Though despite this, he stayed completely frosty. Calm and cool. If a fight ever broke out between him and Alex, he was confident he would come out the winner. His training and his large kill count, counting all the smaller riot, revolts, rebellions and of course the one major true war he ever joined and survived, more than likely is more than the older pine marten has achieved. He was not denying the fact Alex has killed beasts, but with the majority of the area being nothing but seas and island he does not believe he has killed more beasts than he himself and therefore. Despite being younger, was confident he was more experienced. There was not going to be a real fight. He was sure about that. This beast looked reasonable enough anyway.
"Damn. Good thing i brung it all huh?" Shaking his bag of gold and silver coins with a grin, which looked quite heavy indeed and probably caught the eyes of some of the staff at The Oasis. The Pine marten used to be a knight in his past. Getting a quite large paycheck despite the fact the Eastern Jungle war was the only true war one he joined in his military career. Ironically, the first true war he was ever in was the one that earn him the most LESS amount of money, none. His home was destroyed when he had came back. Therefore starting his life as a richer class corsair.
The pine marten's attention was back on Kara as soon as she stopped talking. "Of course, ladies first." Despite this is the first time he has ever really tried charming a creature of the opposite gender, (Due to the fact most beasts only hook up and mate with they're own species) he was confident he could get her affections. What better way to get it than being a gentlebeast and a respectful beast?
