Like Alcander, the major was confident he could win over this martenmaid, very easily. It was not going to be too hard to do so, if he managed to keep Cander away from her, until he was certain he would win. Alexander was also confident he could win in any fight against this Pine Marten, there were several advantages that he had over Cander, the foremost was being a bigger beast than him. And Alex knew he was a master swordbeast, being only beaten in a mock duel versus the general himself, but this new beast could probably handle a blade with ease too. The major also had one very important, if not unfair, advantage over Alcander; the support of his soldiers. If he did lose in a fight against this Pine Marten, he could just as easily yell out the order for him to be killed, and he wouldn't stand a chance against the waves of crimson armored soldiers that would attack him. Alexander didn't believe he would need to use Drask's forces to rid Sampetra of Alcander, though. He planned on not getting cocky about what advantages he had, for that could be his downfall; Alex knew nothing about what kind of fighter Cander was, after all.
Alexander kept his reasoning to himself, and kept up with the flow of conversation between the three Pine Martens. And he was going to be a gentlebeast, and do a better job that Alcander. He went a step further than allowing her to order a drink first, he planned on paying for whatever Kara wanted. Alexander pulled out a chair for her at the table the weasel indicated they should take, before taking his own seat. As he did so, he met Kara's eyes with a smile, "Ladies first, of course. And whatever you order, I'll pay for, Kara." That should be a nice start to winning over this martenmaid, thanks to none other but General Darkfang, for paying his officers generously, especially his second in command.

Kara's eyes grew a little wider when she saw the way Cander flashed his purse about. (and i totally mean that as just a money bag not a girly kind of a purse) Money didn't really mean much to her but it would to her mother. She allowed the major to help her be seated and then looked back and forth between the two males. It was going to be very dizzying, she could tell already, trying to divide her attention equally between them. And then there was Alex on the subject of paying for her drinks. She had expected that he would. She didn't have any money to speak of but the fact that he said it aloud she knew was a shot at Cander and his bag full of coins.
She thought about what to order. Her favorite drink was a mixture of rum and cream but she knew it was thought to be a youngster's drink and the last thing she wanted to do was to appear more childlike. So she tried to think of what more distinguished grown-up beasts would order and then she remembered what the General always had brought to his table, "I'd like a glass of damson wine, please." Alex would be impressed by her choice, she was sure, and Cander couldn't think less of her for it either.

Cander sat in his own seat. Already in his calculating and cool mind he knew he was far ahead of the pine marten. Who stupidly decided to see him as a rival instead of a friend for the heart of a young pine marten lady. Which he will gladly accept for the fact he really had nothing else to do now and besides, this pine marten maid was a beautiful find.
How was he already far ahead of Alex? Because the rival pine marten was acting like a complete ass kisser, beasts that serve other beasts paw and footpaw like slaves. (The only difference being Alex has money) How was this going to be Alex's downfall? Well Kara may want him slightly more and go off with him for a few days or maybe a week, thinking he is the perfect beast for her, but sooner or later. Lack of independence, lack of privacy, lack of personal space and fear of having a clinging and overly defensive male constantly breathing down her neck about her himself (causing him to turn from that point from an asskisser to a possible abusive and overly defensive mate) will cause the matenmaid to become sick of Alex, which will cause her to kick the pine marten out in favor of the much more cool, controlled and relaxed pine marten who is yours truly. Cander.
Cander didn't even have to lead nor trick Alex into this mistake. All Cander has to do now is wait. Waiting is all he would have to do now to earn victory over his rival. Well, that and being himself and acting kindly and helpful to Kara, though unlike Alex. Not over do it. Victory was in the bag like a toad in a barrel!
Cander leaned back a little and showed complete unworryness and coolness. Waiting for the waiter to come take they're orders but also for fun, to keep Alex on his toes...

Of course, the major approved Kara's choice of drink completely, damson wine was a fine choice, one of the more expensive drinks served here. Alexander would pay for it willingly, along with some of the same type of wine for himself. The martenmaid's taste impressed him; she may have looked quite young, but Kara might be able to pass herself as a twenty year old. Alex finally acknowledged her request, "Ah, that's a good choice, Kara. The same thing I get whenever I come here."
Alexander was ready to play this game, just the same as Alcander. If Kara wanted to do this, to have the two Pine Martens go at each other, in a competition over her, Alex would not refuse. He planned on winning this game over Cander; Alexander Feron didn't become a major in the most formidable vermin army currently around for nothing, he out fought and outsmarted all the others under him. This new Pine Marten would learn the hard way, for Alex had every intention of winning the prize.
The weasel who met them at the door came toward the table, reasoning that he should take the three beasts' orders personally, instead of sending a barmaid to do so. He knew Major Feron was a beast of high status at Sampetra, therefore he deserved the best, and so did the others with him. "I apologize for the delay, but I can take your orders now. Major Feron, I'll start with you, sir."
Alexander replied in his typical calm voice, placing both his order and Kara's. "I would like a chalice of damson wine. And Miss Kara wanted to have the same." The Pine Marten always got the rich tasting damson wine whenever he found time to spend at the Oasis, the weasel knew that well, enough that Alex normally never needed to place an order, for a chalice of the wine would be brought out to him.
The weasel nodded in response to Alexander's order, fighting back to ask if this Kara was even old enough to drink wine. He looked now to Cander, asking for the other Pine Marten's drink. "What would you like, sir?"

Cander smiled at the weasel servant and responded politely. "Well good sir before i make my order i have only a single question to ask you. Do you serve any Middle Kingdom's drinks?"
There were plenty of drinks in the Middle Kingdoms. Like the South Land's Fire Water, (more commonly called Dragon Spit, due to the fact it was so burning hot that extremely few beasts outside the Royal Family Military can even stand to drink it more than a single sip) North Land's Snow Cream, (A food/drink with a very sugary and sweet taste, Though would NEVER make it to Sampetra due to long trip and temperature), Eastern Land's Black Beer (Which was rumored to be able to kill you in 6 glasses from alcohol poisoning, making it a popular way to kill somebeast you don't like much with a dare or bet) and Western Land's Wine. (which was believed to be the sweetest and most tastiest of wines, especially when it's old)
There are MANY MANY other drinks though. So at lest a few would have to been traded over the seas. Lest thats what the Pine Marten Cander thought...
(Make up any other drinks you like Vrelt and Cara. Just make sure to name where it is in the Middle Kingdoms and keep in mind of a few things....
The North Lands is the tundra, stone homes and castles with tyrants and counts and savage yet noble and smart fighters.
The South Lands was hotter more coastal places with stone fortresses and castles and has some of the best soldiers around. It also borders the Southern Deserts and even owns what used to be the very tip parts of it.)
The East lands are closer to the Eastern Jungles and therefore have a good mixture of both Middle Kingdoms and Far Eastern Land of everything there.
The Western Lands are often the most peaceful of the four kingdoms areas. Often to high on nobility, honor and finding peaceful solutions to problems and have more civvies than warriors. (Think renaissance.)
Everything in the middle ironically is nothing but mass forests, dirt roads, bogs, swamps and villages. Full of highwaybeasts, bandits, villagers, merchants or travelers. (Also ghosts, monsters and fiends if you believe in such)
There ya go. ^^)

Kara hardly spared a glance for the weasel taking their order. She watched Alex intently as he spoke. She was glad that he approved of her selection. It meant a lot to her to have the favor of a beast who was in such high standing with the General and in that way with the queen herself.
Then when Cander spoke her attention turned to him. The Middle Kingdoms? That was so far away, so exotic. It was so interesting and exciting. She made a mental note to ask him more about his far away home.
She smiled again to herself. Here she was, little Kara, a nobeast really, here between a high ranking officer from her own native island and a captivating foreign knight. She silently thanked the fates for being born of a rare species.

The weasel servant wasted no time, he was familiar with all the beverages here. Many of the beasts often ordered the various wines from the Western Kingdoms, which gained a reputation for being among the best drinks available. Of course, some of the higher ranked officers paid good money for the damson wine, notably Drask, Alexander, and several others. The weasel had more recently had been given repeated orders for beer from the Eastern Lands, though never for the Black Beer, for this establishment stopped selling that after a fatal incident. Plus just one or two chalices would knock just about anybeast stone drunk. This tavern was supposed to be civilized. The weasel spoke to Alcander again, "Of course, sir. We have the finest wines from the Western Kingdom, and the most tasteful beers from the east, if that suits you. Also we have ale from the Middle kingdoms, perfectly aged. There's nothing like it in any of the other taverns."
Alexander also enjoyed the occasional chalice of wine from the Western kingdoms, though not as much as damson wine. The pine marten was interested to see what Alcander ordered, in his opinion a beast's choice of drink could say a lot about him. However his primary attention was on Kara. She seemed a bit awed to be in such a place, with both Alex and Cander sitting with her. Alex hadn't yet determined who she seemed more impressed with, she looked back and forth between him and Cander. Apparently, she didn't know who she was more interested in. Well, that would change after a while. The major was confident of that.
So far in his life being confident and ambitious has worked out, hopefully he could outplay Cander in this game using those old tactics. He flashed Kara a smile as he spoke to her, this was a perfect time to start, while Cander was busy ordering his drink. "What do you think of this place, Miss Kara? Does it suit you?"

"I'll take a glass of Fire Water my good beast. No shot glass." The pine martin said with a slight grin on his furred features. Fire Water, or 'Dragon Spit' as it is called. Named after a serpent-like, reptile during the Dark Terror Age of the Middle Kingdoms that was said to attack by spewing flames at any beast foolish enough to try tackling them into combat, such a creature was said to either never exist in the first place or likely went extinct. To say fire water could melt the hardiest of prison locks or through the thickest wooden table would obviously would have came from the mouth of a beast who had never drank it before as it was a BIG understatement! More believed accurate statements would involve it being able to evaporate lava or melt the steel off swords and axes, although in reality it literally could not do such things. It would sure felt like it could after drinking just a shot glass of it. Often the smallest shot glass a bar would have. Fire water has a long and more deeper history than most beverages in the Middle Kingdoms despite it's low cost, due to it's history with numerous barbarian tribes as a way to go berserk and as part of military training. (Primarily by the Royal Pure Ferret Family Army)
Shockingly it's been recently flying off the shelves in plenty of taverns and bars. A good one to name being one owned by the Bladebrush family. Which was a bar, shop and *Ahem* house all wrapped into one. Making it one of the largest buildings on the island. The reason being the many white clothed ex-soldiers looking for a tropical get away that had they're drinks, style and finally. Nice looking females with no diseases....

"Oh yes, I think it's very . . ." Kara began politely to answer Alex's question. She did think this place was one of the most beautiful she had ever entered and even though she did feel a little out of place it did suit her remarkably well. However, when she heard Cander give his order to the waiter she turned her gaze to the other pine marten and gaped at him. Fire Water!?! Oh, she had heard of the reputation of the drink. One of the other kitchen girls at the palace said she had tasted barely a drop last season and she had been sure it would burn a hole right through her tongue.
The martenmaid only caught herself in time before she childishly blurted out the entire story as she had heard it. She was saved by the waiter completing taking the orders and excusing himself to retrieve them. She tore her eyes from Cander and tried to remember what she had been saying. Alex was still looking at her waiting for her to finish her reply, "It . . . it suits me quite nicely. Er. . . thank you."

With a chuckle Alex directed his attention back to Cander, "Dragon Spit, eh? Interesting choice. That stuff burned me like fire the last time a drank it." He never particularly cared for drinks as strong as Fire Water, but it didn't mean that he stayed away from it either. The pine marten wasn't sure if Cander genuinely liked Fire Water, or if he was merely drinking it in an attempt to impress Kara. Alexander had no such problem. He could care less what Kara thought of his choice of beverage; he felt that he had no reason to impress anybeast.
Alex decided to steer the conversation away from drinks, and questioned Kara about her life as a servant at the palace. "So, how are the conditions for beasts like you that work in the palace? I would presume you are treated better than the slaves there, correct?" If he saw fit, the major could easily pull some strings to get Kara an easier job in the palace, it came down to how he felt after getting to know her over a few days or weeks. Alex wasn't one to make quick decisions without thinking, a quality that was praised by his superior, General Drask. He might just help her for the simple reason that she was a pine marten just like him, even if he ended up not caring for her as much as he thought he did.

Kara's smile faltered a bit at the words 'beasts like you'. Although she had no reason to hope that he would think more of her than just another palace servant, he had seemed so nice. But no of course he was of a much higher class then herself. She must remember that. Putting on airs would only get her into trouble if she wasn't already past that point. "I'm treated very well, Sir." She answered politely even a bit submissively. "I feel very lucky to find work in the palace at all."
The 'Sir' just slipped out. He had told her that she could call him Alex but maybe that wasn't such a good idea either. Her eyes dropped to where her paws were now clenched on the edge of the table. She couldn't even bring herself to look up at Cander to see what he thought of this new turn in the conversation.
