Mary stopped in her tracks for a moment and then continued without looking at Calvin. He would get what she gave him and like it or get nothing at all.
Ivy giggled, "Well you had better help me make it look believable or I'm going to make you dance every single dance with me at the ball tonight." She poked one claw at his chest mock threateningly.

Calvin nodded quickly. "Don't worry, I'll make it look believable. Its not a real problem really. I dont mind you leaning on me for 'support', either." He was glad he wasn't shying away from her like he did most everyone else, and was even happier that he was actually going to be her personal leaning post.
"You didn't have to, Ivy." said Calvin. "You didn't have to fake your own injury to make me happy, though I do appreciate it." He patted her back happily, and he continued. "Later on, do you wanna see my house and meet my family? I dont think they'd mind ou, though people there might think that we are more that just friends..."

"Well, I thought faking an injury was easier than actually injuring myself," she giggled again. "And I don't care what anyone thinks. I'd love to meet your family and I can't wait for you to meet Daddy." She clapped her paws together happily. Then she couldn't help herself, she kissed his cheek again.
"Now which foot was it again that I twisted. I should probably start practicing limping."

Calvin was tempted to return her kiss, but thought against it. "I believe it was the right one you injured, Ivy." He pointed out, moving himself to that side and staying close so she could lean on him. "How far is your house exactly? And, well, where is it?" he asked after some time.
Staying near Ivy was something he could not have imagined in his wildest ideas that he thought could be possible. He had just met her, and he already received two kisses from her and she wanted to lean on him because she wanted to. Could this day get any better? thought Calvin happily.

Ivy leaned heavily on him, possibly a little more than was actually necessary for the act. She attempted one limping step and then looked up at him with a pitifully pained look on her face. "How's this?" she asked affecting even a slight tremble in her voice. She was quite the accomplished actress when she wanted to be. "And they'll think you such a hero for seeing me home safely."

Once Calvin looked at her for a moment, he hugged her. "Thank you, Ivy." he whispered to her. "You really dont need to do this for me. Theres plenty of others that dont need you to do this." he stopped hugging her and looked at her eyes. "And if you dont need to do that now, dont. It hurts seeing you do that."
In the back of Calvin's mind, he was worried he was pushing this, or being pushed, further than people should be on a first meeting. His mother had warned him of becoming infatuated with women, or them infatuated with him. It was something he thought he recognized with Ivy.

Ivy gazed back at him. She could see the honest worry in his eyes and the act dropped immedately from her expression leaving behind it a compassionate smile. "I'm sorry, Calvin. I only want them to accept you. Mother is . . . well she's more like Mary there." She looked up the hill the way her friend had gone. "I'm afraid if they saw you like this . . ." she indicated his old blue tunic and soaking trousers. "That they wouldn't even let you in the door." Coming from any other beast this would have sounded harsh but Ivy had not a single malicious bone in her body.
She smiled winningly, "But if we can show them how you rescued me and helped me get back home then. . . then they have to let you in and. . . we can tell them all the truth later and they'll just laugh about it." The little gray female was entirely certain of her plan. She could not see any possible way it could go wrong.

Calvin nodded as she spoke, looking down at his clothing as well. He hoped he wasnt getting Ivy wet with it near her.
"But what if they dont? What if they try to hurt you for doing this?" he asked nervously. "I could never forgive myself if you got hurt because of me." he added in a mumble. "Here, if they do something to you, we could run off, build the boat, and go out into the sea!"

"They won't hurt me," Ivy brushed away his worry. "Unless you call forcing me to marry some noblebeast's twit of a son hurting me. They were planing that anyway though." Ivy caught the his added mumble and smiled. She whispered back to him, "If they drive me to it I won't complain."

Calvin looked at her with a growing smile. One down, 5 to go. He thought happily. All he had to do now was ask her to come. And all he needed to do that was guts. And Calvin doesnt have 'guts' around women, especially those he likes.
He scowled at the absence of conversation, something that made him feel more awkward than before. Calvin decided to use this time to talk to her
"So, what do you like to do in your free time?" asked Calvin.

She dropped her head ashamedly at the question. "Aw you'll think it's terribly silly." She looked up at him a moment judging if she could tell him about her guilty pleasure. "I like to read novels." Once she had started the rest of the awful truth spilled out, "I've read dozens and dozens of them and whenever I hear about a new one that has come out, I must have it right away. Do you think me terribly silly, Calvin?"

Calvin blinked. "You read books... for fun..." He burst into laughter. "Thats not something to call silly, you silly! Reading is a good hobby!" He looked to his side, looking for his pack which he left at home. "Aw, if i had my pack i could show you the book I am reading." I think you'd like it. Its called, 'Romeo and juliet.' I think you probably read it, though."

"You like Shakespeare?" Ivy asked excitedly, all of her former embarrassment dissolving. "I've read all of them, well most of them. Titus Andronicus was revolting, and the histories are a bit of a bore, but I do love 'Midsummer' and 'Much Ado' and 'Romeo and Juliet'." The little cat rolled her eyes upward as if trying hard to remember and then she quoted, "Tis too fast, too unadvised, too sudden, too like lightning which doth cease to be ere one can say it lightens."
She giggled, "Sounds a bit like you and me, doesn't it?"
((and yes that is my favorite line from Shakespeare. I love the imagery.))

Calvin went scarlet at the quote and looked away. "Y-Yea, it does." he stammered. " I did like Macbeth, along with Midsummer as well." He thought for a moment, and continued with a quote.
"All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players; they have their exits and their entrances, and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages."
((Not my favorite, but somewhat appropriate to a subject-changer.))

Ivy smiled at him and allowed for the change of subject. Of course this was more because of her limited attention span than because she wished to end the comparison between herself and Juilet. "Well tonight you are playing the part of Calvin Fairfax so we had better get you dressed."
Linking her arm with his she began to drag him up the dune. "Mary's house is just over the next hill. She should have your suit picked out for you by now." She had all but forgotten about her ruse of being hurt.
