((like the title ha ha. So this is for everybody who was involved in night-watch or wanted to be. It would probably be best to check with Steelhawk if you have any major plot ideas though because he's the man with the plan)) Tamar awoke to morning bird song which was not so odd in itself. It was a charming melody that she often took for granted and slept right through when she wasn't helping get the breakfast in the kitchens. It was the fact that the song was abruptly cut short that alerted her to the change. And then she remembered that there were vermin outside the Abbey walls and her little friend the singer, she realized, had probably just become their breakfast.
This was an awful enough thought but not enough to rouse her from bed quite yet because Tamar had also realized that she was much more comfortable here than she normally was in her small dormitory cot. And it was not Abbess Saol in her own cot a meter away from her but the warrior squirrel Silas who was laying quite close still sleeping in the big gatehouse bed.
Tamar raised herself on one elbow and watched him. He looked so peaceful there it hardly seemed fair to wake him. She chuckled softly at the way his head fur stood up at a funny angle in one spot and couldn't resist reaching out with her paw to try to smooth it back down.

Garret awoke with a start, falling from his chair. He'd once again relived that horrible event in his dreams.
It was a driving rainstorm.
"Garret, go inside with your mother."
"But father..."
"Now!" Fenrir Strife had said, shooing them inside as he and the others took up defencive positions around the gate. Garret had watched out the window of the second floor, as a massive horde of beasts had broken through the walls, and gate, and attacked the defenders, who held off a full five waves of perhaps two hundred each, before they one by one fell to the masses. His father was the last to go down. His mother, sobbing, dragged him to their room, and pushed him in the closet, handed him her necklace, and closed the door.
He opened it slightly, and watched as they broke down the door, and backed her into the corner. He didn't know what had happened after, as the Wolverine, Regulas, Had discovered him then, and took a swipe at him with his blade. He had missed, only grazing Garret along along the side of his face. In annoyence, the Wolverine had grabbed him, and dragged him out of the closet, throwing him out the window.
Upon impact, he'd been knocked out, and awoke the next morning in the mud. He'd found his father, somehow still barely alive, and Fenrir smiled slightly.
"Garret, take this, and go... Most of them are camped some distance away, but a few are still here. You have to go..."
Garret, tears streaming down his face, had taken the two pieces of his father's blade, and then walked off.
He shook his head, a single tear dropped to the floor, and he stood.
"Every night..."

Silas, who was indeed sleeping peaceably up close to Tamar, felt her paw gently caress his headfur. After a while, he slowly opened his deep blue eyes, blinking the blur of sleep away from them to see Tamar again, here with him. He smirked contentedly and let the squirrelmaid have her way with the fur sticking up on his head.
"Good morning." He whispered, temporarily forgetting the crisis at paw, at least for a few minutes.
------------------------------------------------------
Elsewhere, the captured Marlfox Shade awoke with quite a start in the gloom of the cellar. He discovered immediately that his paws were bound behind his back and a footpaw was tied to a rather large support beam. He also remembered his shoulder wound, as soon as he fell over onto it. With a yelp he stood up, cursing the beasts who saw fit to challenge him and imprison him here. Well, the good news was he wasn't dead. Still, the Marlfox would've welcomed death before humiliation anyday.

"It is, isn't it?" Tamar leaned forward and kissed his nose. Baring the fact that there was to be a battle later the squirrelmaid was sure that this was the best morning of her life. And she was sure if she had the opportunity to spend more nights with Silas that the mornings would only get better and better. She was glad that they had decided to actually sleep. She felt refreshed and she was beginning to feel something else. "So, are you hungry? You know there are hares in the Abbey now. If we want anything to eat we really ought to get in there before it's all gone." Of course joining the other creatures in the Great Hall meant enduring the looks they were very likely to receive after spending the night in the Gatehouse together but she supposed there was no help for it. They'd have to come out sooner or later. Not that anybeast would believe that all they did was sleep.
---------------------------------------
In the infirmary the healer on duty an old mouse brother with the reputation for physicking anybeast who so much as sneezed in his presence was making the rounds. He shook his head at the hares knowing that soon he'd have to see that they got fed. He was just fine with having them sleep strait through till lunch. Then one of them stirred, the maid the night nurse had called Ally. ". . . Yes Ms. Kolia, I'll get that for ya. An' don't you worry, one o'these seasons we'll come across a healer t'deliver yur whelps. . . " she mumbled and then rolled over and began snoring again.

Garret looked over at Urthblayde. Still sleeping. He'd let his friend rest.
Then a thought occured to him.
"Err... can I meet you then?"
Silas was supposed to be meeting him at breakfast to discuss the defensive plans. He left the room, and headed down the stairs. He arrived in Great Hall, and was met with several worried glances. It seemed as if most of the Abbeybeasts (those present, for at the moment there were few), didn't completely trust him, or weren't aware of his arrival in the first place. He also noted that Silas wasn't there yet.
He smiled charmingly at one mousemaid who was staring at him. She blushed, and moved away from the beast sitting next to her.
Garret chuckled, and then sat at the end of the massive table, on the rather unoccupied half of it, and waited.
(Feel free to keep him waiting, it'll be funny.)

It was if the spoken words had set off a chain reaction. The first to stir was a black mouse who had been sleeping while sitting up, his head on his chest. The mouse's head slowly came up and he looked around, stifling a yawn.
Then the veteran Colonel was waking. Blinking rapidly, he did let loose a loud yawn that seemed like it would swallow the earth.

Now fully awake and revitalized, Silas chuckled and sat up on the bed, seeing in his perephreal vision that his sword was still where he left it. Remembering that there would probably be a battle to be fought, he grew a fraction more serious (Yet somehow still very joking) as he spoke. "Oh, yeah? They'll have to plow through me first if they're going to eat our breakfast!" He then made a show of jumping out of bed and gathering his coat and sword up.

Tamar sat up and watched him, laughing. "Well I think you Sir for being so valiant as to protect my dining needs." She hopped up, retrieved her shawl and short bow and took his paw. "You know Saol and the rest of them are never going to let us hear the end of this, no matter what we did or didn't do."
Ally rolled over again and opened her eyes somebeast had removed her glasses and set them on the table next to her bed so she couldn't see anything. "Where in the bloomin seasons am I?"

Her voice awoke the last hare sleeping, a young male Lieutenant who'd taken a nasty cut to the side. "Huh? Ally, you're at the Abbey, remember? You twisted your ankle so they sent you to the Infirmary." he said, blinking rapidly to try to dispel the sleep from his eyes.

"True." Silas said aloud, taking her paw after buckling on his sword. His thoughts turned to what would've happened last night had they not been so tired. He smiled back, and stepped towards the door, keeping pace with Tamar all the same. "Well, that just shows they're jealous." He took the time to wink before opening the door with his free paw.

Tamar stopped and stared at the open door for a moment then she looked up at Silas with a grin, "You think maybe just one more kiss before we go out there and face the world?"
Ally recognized that voice right away she turned towards the sound and caught the blurry outline of the table between her bed and the next. She reached over to the table top, found her glasses, and put them on. "Oh good morning, Jeremy. How are you feeling?"

The young lieutenant grinned widely. "Aside from being a bit sore and hungry, not bad." THe truth of it was that his side felt like somebody had lit it on fire, but there was no way he was going to tell her that. He didn't want her worrying.

Shortly after, Urthblayde awoke. He felt the warm sun pouring through the window and it felt good. Outside he could hear the bird chirping cheerfully. "What a lovely tune!" he thought to himself. Thanks to the medicine and the carefully placed wrappings, the ginat badger felt worlds better. Perhaps what made him feel best of all was how he was able to put his differences beside with the fox and become friends with him. Noticing Garret was absent, Urthblayde began to feel like he was missing something important. Slinging his mighty sword over his shoulder, the badger rose and walked across the room, being ever so careful to close the door quietly as not to awake anybeast who might be sleeping in the close proximity. After some investigation as to where everybody was, he soon heard voices coming behind the door of the Great Hall. Not knowing exactly how he would be recieved, Urthblayde drew a deep breath and knocked.

Hearing a door open, Garret thought that it might be Silas. He turned, and saw Urthblayde enter, looking considerably better. He smiled. That fool just can't rest, can he? Heh, reminds me of myself. He thought, and waved the badger over.
"Sit, I believe the food shall be served momentarily."

Silas grinned just that much bigger at the pretty squirrelmaid. "How can I say no to that, aye? Not that I'd want to, anyways." His deep blue eyes look away from the world outside and into Tamar's eyes again. That was where his world lies now, in those wonderful eyes. He moved closer to her and kissed her in that moment.
