Taross' interest was instantly piqued. "Did you say... vermin hordes?" The last time Taross had ever fought a vermin horde, he was alone. He had fought against twenty or thirty vermin warriors by himself. Not one of them had escaped alive. He made an effort not to get too excited, because he knew that he had no right to attack a vermin horde if they hadn't effected him or anyone he knew of. Otherwise he would travel there in a moment's notice.

Rosetail looked quizzically at the Taross who seemed to be a whole lot more interested, but she quickly shrugged it off. "I saw them, they were travelling in a group of about 3 scores and 2." Rosetail said before flicking a leaf that had landed on her. "They looked heavily armed too." She added.

Baren Krakel and Rumbalo promptly returned after a short discussion. A new look had come over the Rivermaster's face. His expression was now grim with no humor to spare, and his manner seemed troubled as if a weight had been placed on his back. However, there was determination in his steps and fire in his eyes.
"Sir Taross," he said quickly. "I think you should hear Rumbalo's news."
Before anyone could say anything else, the weasel commenced without hesitation. "A vermin warlord from the north has begun conquest to the south. His army is about five hundred strong. So far he has laid to waste two small settlements killing the old and taking the young as slaves," he told the big wolverine in a dry, serious tone.
The vole leader then added, "It seems he intends to kill or enslave all dwellers of this part of Mossflower."

((How about the warlord's name being "Garold"? And how about he hails from the far south and Taross knows him. How about they're rivals?))
An old fire lighted Taross' eyes. "A vermin warlord... Do you happen to know his name?" All friendliness had been replaced by resolve in his face. "Is his name... Garold?" Garold was an old enemy of Taross'. They had fought many times and neither one could seem to defeat the other. He was a big Wild Cat. Garold himself couldn't quite stand up to Taross, but he always had a dirty trick up his sleeve. And he knew military strategy like his own hand. He proved to be one of the few vermin that could escape Taross.

"That sounds like the name I heard," Rumbalo answered, "but my memory be's a bit faulty sometimes."
Baren had a sudden realization. "Do you know this warlord, Taross," he asked. It was possible that Taross could be in league with this new threat, the vole had considered it the first time he heard the news. However, based on Taross' expression, it seemed more likely that the wolverine had crossed blades in battle with this new threat.
((sorry, Mossflower, I haven't really done much to help you roleplay, but I think Baren will definitely turn to your character soon because he will remember she wanted to talk to him. Also, in case you haven't read Baren Krakel's bio yet, he wears a gold medallion which is the symbol of his clan. This may be something to interest Rosetail)

((Pretty shiny thing...=P))
Rosetail took in all of this in silent, her brain was throwing her ideas about what to do. ~I come for loot and I end up in a Warlord battle.~ she thought. Rosetail looked around again, she had already marked each of her future targets. Now with a sigh she looked from at Taross for some sort of explanation.

Taross calmed down. He looked at Rosetail, feeling a little sorry that she was somewhat discarded by the creatures. He looked into her eyes deeply, his strange and penetrating gaze proceeding him. "The vermin you saw, my young lady, do you think they could have been in league with Garold?" he said to her with a sense of resolve behind it. "If he is here, then we have a very dangerous foe on these lands..." Taross began his story to all creatures present:
"It was very long ago, the time of my glory days... my warpath. Garold was not the most cruel nemesis, but he certainly was evil. He aspired to conquer the whole of the southern lands and bring them all together under his banner. He had a massive quantity of slaves, and that number is what made up the main body of my army. Yes, I freed most of them and trained them for war. i clashed blades against him many a time, and he and I grew to be bitter enemies. He was the one enemy that I could not defeat... He is my rival. He saw that I wanted to free the southern lands, and he hated me for it. Once I accomplished that, he left with his army, and I never heard of him since."
Taross crossed his bulky arms over his barrel chest and said, "If he is in these lands then it can mean only one thing: he wants to conquer Mossflower!"

Rosetail flinched noticeably at the Warlord's story. Suddenly she remembered a story that her elders had learned from their elders about the war between the two warlords. They had called it: "The Feud of Power." Rosetail slowly sat down and plucked a stem of grass as she started thinking.
"The vermin I saw were a scattering of searats, weasels, ferrets, stoats, rats, and a few foxes." Rosetail said.
"They all bore a steel blade and a sling, some of them had bows. It didn't seem that they were being lead by anyone...but I saw one of the foxes give orders a couple time." She said in a low voice, "I think it might have been or a foraging group or a scout group that was being lead by one of the Captains."

"They've only begun conquest of the area recently," Rumbalo interjected without emotion. "I believe they are a day's march to the north at a steady pace, but I saw them proceeding cautiously. Most of them had spears or pikes and seemed quite organized."
Baren nodded thoughtfully. "Though Taross has, perhaps, a better perspective, I don't believe the bands of vermin Rosetail has seen are directly related to this warlord. In all my time living in this area and patrolling, we've had to deal with similar vermin bands and even now more bands are roaming the area."
"I have often taken food and things from these kind of bands. They lacked the discipline of the Warlord's horde," the weasel said in support of his friend's idea. "They could easily join up and add to his strength though."

Taross took all this in and made the only possible decision he could: he would take up his armor and rally up any creatures he could to fight. He smiled. At last a reason to re-enter the warpath. Where to start, though...? Just then, a screech rang out through the air. It was the screech of an eagle... a Golden Eagle.
Like a stroke of lightning, Taross had his great axe in paw. The eagle that apparently had let out the screech was in view now. The huge beast was even bigger than Taross. It soared down out of the sky and started circling around the creatures. Was this eagle considering them for lunch?
Taross' face was all concern. He had never fought an eagle. He was confident that he could at least put up a very good fight, and his armor would protect him, but what about these other creatures? If this eagle attacked, then there was no guarantee that he could protect them... He yelled up to the eagle with as powerful and menacing voice that he could muster, which was saying a great deal, "Hail! What business do you have hear?!"
The eagle spoke! "Ach! Who is this? Do ye know who Ah am?! Ah'm the Gret King MacPhurious!!"
Taross lowered his axe. King MacPhurious...? Wait a minute... Taross knew that name! The Great King MacPhurious of the Mountains of the North! Quite a lengthy name... "Great King! Come down so we may converse!"
The King answered, "Yew are quite a braw creature! Wot's your name?" Taross replied, "My name is Taross the Warlord. I hail from the far south."
The two giant creatures had formal conversation, and then Taross changed the subject. He told the King about Garold. Apparently, the King had known about it himself, and was looking for creatures to help him. The two warriors had one thing in common: they wished to rid the north of Garold.

Rosetail flinched back in surprise as the massive eagle landed. Her family had told her a little about eagles, but surely they didn't mean that they were all this big. ~The day just keeps getting better.~ She thought with a flick of her tail. She turned her head back to Taross, an idea in her head.
"So...ye be needing any help in thee conquest of vermin foe?" She asked. With a sideways glance at the eagle and another at the voles.

King MacPhurious turned his fierce and regal glare towards the squirrel. The King was very, very wise, and he knew that Taross wasn't a bad beast; the reason being that he seemed to want to protect these other beasts. He knew that if a wolverine wanted to kill a beast, then it would... without hesitation. Besides, Taross had told him about himself and his glory days.
And this weasel... a vermin among goodbeasts... maybe it was also not evil. If it was though, MacPhurious might have a meal later.
"Ach! Thaht's right, lassie!" MacPhurious said in his thick northern accent. "Mah falcons are on different business now, so Ah'll be needin' as much help as Ah can get... But, if you don't mind me askin', what CAN you do, mm?"
He twisted his head in a quizzical manor.
((Not to threaten your character, Sam. It's just that MacPhurious is an eagle and all.))

Rosetail smiled gleefully at the eagle. "Well, first ya be needing to count ye feathers." She said in an innocent voice as she brandished one of the over-sized feathers of the Eagle King. "Be this yours?" She added with a small grin.
Rosetail took a step towards the Eagle, "I can also do all the things squirrels usually do." She said as she straightened her bandanna.
((You don't mind right?..=P, I was just thinking that he wouldn't be peeved if he is as big as you say he is.))

((No problem))
Despite his natural instinct to hide, Rumbalo remained in the open with the others. Besides, there was probably nowhere he could hide from the eagle's piercing eyes in the open field.
Then, as the proceedings went on, his suspicions of the squirrel were confirmed; he had seen her snag a feather when the huge eagle had flapped its mighty wings. And now she was handing the feather back to try and show how good of a thief she was.
"So you're a thief," the weasel said coldly. He had been annoyed by the squirrel from the beginning, but now he had another reason to be annoyed. It was not competition but the fact that she would probably be stealing from all the wrong creatures. He had seen her eyeing the medallion hanging from the Rivermaster's neck, something only a trained thief would probably see.
With a thoughtful look on his face, Baren responded. "What has made so suddenly hostile towards thieves? Interesting that you would accuse someone of being of the same occupation as yourself."
"That's not it," Rumbalo answered quietly. He caught the vole's eyes and inconspicuously indicated the medallion. "I've just had a sneakin' suspicion ever since I saw her."

((Uh, he was talking about MacPhurious, who is my character, Sam. It's okay, Moss. And Sam, I don't care, but just make sure you know who's character is who's. =P))
MacPhurious became bored. He suddenly spread his massive wings out, nearly hitting Taross in the face. He then flew up ino the air, calling back down as he went, "I shall rally up as many falcons as Ah can. Mebbe yew can rally up some other creatures, Warlord! When Ah'm done, Ah'll look for yeh! Good luck!"
Taross frowned. He looked at the giant bird flying off towards the Mountains. "I hope he knows as much about war as I," he said. "And he better not become thirsty for authority." One of the few things that got Taross angry was someone trying to lord themselves over him. If this bird wanted authority over Taross, then they would have to duel. The eagle was a King, but only in the Mountains. Taross then shook angry thoughts out of his head. 'Ugh, where did that come from?' he thought to himself. Taross was getting pumped up about the coming conflict, and he wanted to fight... or at least spar. He looked at the other creatures with an ominous grin. "Tell me, how sharp is your mind to war?" he said to no one in particular. "If you want to surivive war, then you need to be able to steel your body as well as your mind. Well, I think now is as good a time as any to train a little," he said. He looked through the faces staring at him as though he was mad. He fixed his gaze on the sullen weasel. "Why the long face? I think a little excersize would do you good, friend." He put down his axe and made a fighting stance. He put his fists up and bent his knees. "Come at me! Don't fear for safety, I am unarmed!" The others must have though he forgot about his huge claws. "Weapons or no, let's see how you can handle a fight!"
