((I was saying no problem to you Daniel. I should have specified. And sorry for making it seem like your character is unwanted, Mossflower, I'm just trying to have my characters act like they might))
Baren instantly moved to put himself between the weasel and the warlord, but Rumbalo stood and placed his hand on his friend's shoulder. He gave him a strange look that caused the water vole to step aside with confusion wrinkled in his brow.
The weasel thief had been annoyed ever since he crossed paths with the squirrel and now was a time to let that frustration out. It did not matter whether he won or lost, it was time to let some steam out. He stood ten paces away from the wolverine and bowed slightly to indicate respect. Adopting a crouched but non aggressive posture, he began maneuvering with the warlord.
He did not expect to win. He was a thief, and his skill in combat was not his strong point; however, as a thief, he was also very good at playing mind games. He was also very quick and had trained his entire life to strike suddenly without notice in order to surprise the opponent enough to create an escape route. He was also in excellent physical condition due to his constant wandering and creeping in difficult postures. While he was no warrior, he had confidence he could present a challenge. But to have any hope, he would have to keep the bout a maneuvering contest where he might have an advantage and avoid Taross's immense power as best as he could.
Regardless of the outcome, Rumbalo looked forward to a challenge and a bit of fun. Sparring was always fun; as long as he suffered no serious injuries.
Baren watched the bout begin with worry in his face. Taross had specified no rules and was surely capable of much damage. Of course his experience had probably taught control, but one could never know.

Rosetail watched for a short time as the eagle flew away before quickly looking down on earth again. ~That weasel is not trusting me...or will be any time soon.~ She thought with a grim. In her hand she still held the over-sized feather that she quickly plucked into the folds of her bandanna.
Now she turned to look as the Warlord asked for a spar and the weasel stepped up, she smiled inwardly as the 2 opponents started circling each other. "This should be interesting." She muttered under her breath.
((Meh..I don't care about that, a role-play is a role-play, anything can happen..=P))

Taross called to the other creatures not currently in combat,"You all can participate if you want. No warrior ever got where he was by watching a fight. But this weasel is my opponent, and if you wish to engage in combat, then partner up and spar!"
Taross didn't plan on hurting this weasel; he had learned self-control many years ago. Besides, the last time he had fought paw-to-paw, he had broken a rat's entire body by throwing a savage punch at him... and he meant to.
Taross kept subtle distance in between him and his opponent. He suddenly stood still with only one arm raised. He then began walking slowly at Rumbalo with his right paw held in the air, his paw being open. One thing he always had over almost any opponent was intimidation. But maybe this thief was confident? Maybe he was seasoned in combat? Only his attacks would tell...
Taross wasn't as skilled in paw-to-paw combat as he was with his axe, but he was certainly good...

Seeing the massive Wolverine closing was a fearsome sight, probably the most fearsome Rumbalo had ever seen. He forced himself to stay calm and calculated waiting for the precise moment. Rumbalo's best chance was to keep moving to the side until an opening presented itself. He would wait until Taross threw an attack and then move to the side and lunge forward with an attack when the wolverine was recovering. But there was no guarantee that Rumbalo could even produce an attack that would be legitimate against the huge warrior. There was also no guarantee that Taross was not quick on his feet; the warlord had surely learned to move his feet on the battlefield. One thing was certain, Taross had learned to gauge distance outstandingly well; the weasel would not try to best him there. He would just try his best and keep his feet moving.
As Taross moved in, Rumbalo began creeping sideways looking for the right moment.
Baren had no wish to spar at the moment. He was concerned for Rumbalo and had to watch how the bout turned out. Besides, he was an experienced warrior in his own way. The Rivermaster had slain many vermin in his days patrolling the streams and woodlands with his warriors. Perhaps he would even practice a bit soon, but now he needed to watch Rumbalo and Taross spar. On the other hand, he didn't really mind if the other voles were interested in doing any sparring.

Taross then called out to Baren, "You can aid your comrade if you see it fit! I do not wish to say that he is incompetent, for I know not his skill! Come! I will take as many that want to join!"
Taross was hoping that this would distract his opponent. Not that he wouldn't take them all on, that is. He then subtlety got in range for a kick. Like a mighty river, Taross lunged forward and pushed a kick straight for the weasel's stomach. He didn't intend for the kick to injure the creature, but he definitely put power into it.

Rumbalo did not realize that his opponent was in range to kick, but he noticed the shift in weight and moved quickly. As Taross let a mighty kick out, the weasel darted to the side and crouched ready to retaliate. However, it appeared that the wolverine was ready for a counterattack, so he stopped himself and continued to circle and try to gain a position behind the wolverine.
At first, Baren was turned off by the idea of joining in the bout, but then as Taross threw the kick, he noticed something. Though the kick was very powerful, it would only have grazed the weasel if he had stood still. The wolverine definitely had control over himself then.
As he continued to watch Rumbalo begin maneuvering around, he suddenly lightened up a bit. Baren realized that his weasel friend would have a very difficult time even getting any attack on the big warlord and he could use any amount of help. Besides, the Rivermaster could use a little practice; perhaps if he could tie up the warlord with wrestling, Rumbalo could get a legitimate, controlled strike in. Then there was the problem of whether Baren could successfully wrestle with a beast so big and strong. Well, maybe he would learn something today though he had used technique to defeat stronger opponents before.
"Alright then. I'm in," he called out.
Baren took up a fighting posture and advanced toward the warlord.

Taross prepared himself. He was no longer going to go to his opponents. Instead he was going to let them get close... He bent his knees and put up his fists once more and waited... Hopefully, his opponents would be reluctant to close in. After all, he towered over every other creature there and his massive build would make it hard to put any sort of strike on him. He bided his time and waited for his opponents to make their moves...

Baren began hopping lightly on his feet and kept his hands darting around to attract Taross's attention. Gradually, he moved in feinting and changing his height level trying to be as elusive as possible. For an old beast, he was surprisingly nimble. All the while, Rumbalo was laying low and trying to sneak his way around to the other side of Taross and to remain unnoticed. If the water vole could tie the big warlord up, maybe the weasel would be able to sneak in a submission. But he would not try to clinch with the huge wolverine for his power. He would distract high and shoot in low.
Now the distance had closed and the Rivermaster made his move. Quickly shuffling forward, he began to throw a flurry of punches to occupy the warlord with the intention of dropping on all fours to grab the heel and drive forward on the shin with his shoulder. If Baren could topple the wolverine onto the ground, they would have a much better chance, but Taross was certainly a tough and canny warrior. Would the attempt work?

The lightening assault was definitely a shock, but it felt as though someone was throwing pebbles at him. He decided that he wouldn't go for pure speed, but rather fluidity. He was going to roll, but he didn't want to crush the vole. Rather, he jumped into a dive. When he hit the ground, he rolled. Then he sprung up and got ready for more. He noticed that Rumbalo had been preparing for an attack. "You'll have to be faster than that, my friends," Taross taunted the pair. He then prepared to attack...

The huge wolverine dove over Baren just as he was about to drop low and go for a takedown. I suppose that's one thing you can do when you're that big, the water vole thought as he immediately turned around to renew his attack. Hopefully he would be able to catch the warlord as he was recovering from the dive and roll. No. Taross had covered too much distance for Baren to keep the attack going.
Just as the wolverine began to taunt the pair, Baren caught Rumbalo's eye and the two rushed forward. Rumbalo was much faster than Baren but had to cover more than twice as much distance; even still, he passed up the old water vole. Streaking forward in a blur, he leaped a full wolverine arm's length over Taross just as Baren came within range to renew his attack.

The sparring went on for some time, with no particular winner. Taross eventually broke it off by easing out of his fighting position and addressing the two smaller warriors, "Very well done, my friends! You both make fearsome warriors! Now, I hate to break the sparring, but I'm afraid we really must come up with some sort of plan. This warlord in the north... he must be stopped."
Taross wondered when the giant eagle would shoe up again. He turned to the bank-vole and said, "Listen to me, Barren. We are about to embark on a journey that will lead us straight into war. If you have no desire to enter it, then I will not look down upon you. You can leave if you want."

The old Water Vole was still panting from the exercise, but he took a deep breath to relax before nodding to the big Wolverine.
"If evil beasts are coming to threaten my clan, I will not sit idle," Barren answered resolutely. "It is my duty to protect my family, clan, and allies. The Krakel Water Vole Clan shall certainly fight. We are warriors after all."
Then he turned to more practical matters. "So you have dealt with this foe beast before? Perhaps you could tell us of him. What are his strengths? His weaknesses? What does he long for? What is it that he fears? What types of troops does he favor and how does he like to fight?"

"He... has few weaknesses. I suppose one of his 'weaknesses' could be his lust for blood and unrighteousness. Another would be his seeming overconfidence. He wants no part in peace or justice. His heart is black as night. the worst part of him is the fact that the only emotion he seems to have is happiness. It's quite disturbing when taken into account.
I suppose his strengths would be his tactical prowess, his fury with a blade, his unshakable will, and his wit. He favors the most worthy of warriors. He prefers quality over quantity. There is no unfit soldier under his command. That's not to say that he doesn't have many troops. He must have at least two score of them. But that eagle said he would fight with us... hmm. You know, I believe the best way to deal with him might be hit and run tactics."
