"If he's upset he might suck on your finger for a bit. I'll be ready for him soon. I think Thunder might be falling asleep." Kolia suggested. "Thanks again, by the way," There she'd done it again a spoken show of gratitude. This had never been a natural reaction for the weaselmaid as she generally believed that she deserved the things that other beasts gave to her or did for her. But for some reason this weasel she saw as more of an equal. She understood that he didn't have to do the things he did and she honestly appreciated that he did them. "I still can't really believe I'm actually a mother," she said half to herself. "I never really liked the idea of motherhood after my own mother . . ." she drifted off and then began again. "I had no idea it would be like this."

"You're welcome." Sergei replies as Kolia once again verbally expresses her thanks. After she finished talking, the weasel nodded. "Everything seems like something until you actually go through it. Then it's something else." Of course, he was speaking from observation in and around Darkwood. Many beasts try out many things with their lives, and find that the path they chose didn't suit them at all. Like Kate, for example. She turned to being an apprentice healer to earn more money to support herself. It turns out that healing wasn't exactly her strong point as of yet. He knew Kate was a Seer for a time, so that business must've been bad. Everyone's rather superstitious in Darkwood, unless you were from the outside world. Sergei was of the latter. ((Lol there's a quote... )

As Kolia had predicted Thunder slipped off to slumber. She had known he must be tired after the trauma he'd had coming into the world. "Could you turn around again please?" Kolia waited until did so and then carefully broke the little one's suction and laid him gently down on the pallet in front of herself. She arranged her shirt back modestly, "Alright I'm ready for Lightning."

Taure stood from the cooking fire and walked back to Kolia's tent carrying the specially prepared bird on a platter for the hungry new mother. She stepped inside quietly and set the platter down next to her with a courteous bow. Here's the bird you requested, Miss Kolia. I hope you enjoy it.

Sergei got up again slowly, walking over to Kolia and gently handed her the weaselbabe. After that was done and the roasted bird was brought into the tent, he secretly wiped the saliva from Lightning off of his claw onto the tent fabric behind him. "Smell's good." He commented, merely looking for something to say. He wasn't all that hungry himself...

Kolia took her older son and looked into his face which was twisted in anger. "I didn't forget you." She told him. But when the vixen came in with the platter of food she was tempted to lay him down and see to her own hunger before his. She picked up a small piece of the meat and popped it into her mouth, "Mmmm, it is good." Realizing she could probably fee herself and the whelp at the same time she gestured for Sergei to turn his back once more and waited for him to do so before guiding Lightning to latch on the the opposite side as his brother had done. "Youch!" she cried as the infant went at his supper ravenously. This must have been the one who had her craving meat all through her pregnancy. But soon he had settled down and she was able to drape the blanket over him and eat her own supper with her free paw.

((Paw.))
Meanwhile, the weasel sat cross-legged once more, toying with one of his various daggers, a throwing knife. He tested it for balance and heft, then ran the edge along a claw. It drew a small amount of blood, to his surprise. Making a face at the sharp twinge of pain that resulted, he looked at the cut, sighing.

((*smacks self in the forehead* modified it))
Kolia continued to eat but between bites she informed the vixen, "Tomorrow morning I'll take the hare and the twins and we'll be on our way. I have a few more ideas where I might be able to look for Roask." She licked her fingers. The meat was well prepared, juicy and full of flavor. It reminded her of everything else the vixen had done for her that evening and got her wondering about what kind of compensation the healer would expect. "So, what sort of payment do I need to give you?" She asked the vixen. "I don't have much money. But I can give you what I have and then send you whatever else when I find Roask."
((I kind of had the idea that Taure would ask her to give up Ally rather than pay because the whole reason to have a hostage was to get back into Redwall and she doesn't want to go back there anyway. However you'd like to word that is fine.))

Taure smiled kindly at the young mother. I don't really need or want any compensation. I'm always willing to help creatures that need it. However, might I ask you to leave the hare here instead of taking her?

Kolia looked at Taure like she was crazy. First of all what beast didn't want to get paid for their work, and secondly how could she possibly give up her hostage? She shook her head, momentarily forgetting her meal. "No, no, I can't leave her. Roask wanted a hostage. That's how we're getting back into Redwall. I need to take her to Roask." She looked down at the plate and started to pick the last bit of the meat off the bone with a claw. She was completely baffled by being asked for her captive in place of money.

The weasel looked up. A hostage? He thought Ally was some sort of misplaced slave instead. And why would Kolia want entrance to Redwall. She had children to take care of. And it was wintertime. And, as far as he knew, the Redwallers would try something tricky onher or this roask character to free Ally and canel out whatever leverage they might've had. In the eyes of Sergei Ramikov, it was a foolish idea. He would've handled it better, if he was actually motivated to move all the way there. But if he ever went there, he would do what he did not terribly often. Con. Through many years of hard living, Sergei had to develop some talents to survive in the back alleyways of Darkwood. He listened to the conversation with interest.

Taure's head tilted in confusion. But I thought you didn't want to go back to that place. So why take a hostage to try to get into someplace that you don't even want to go to?

"I don't . . ." She was shaking her head again. She didn't want to go anywere near the place. The dream came back to her, the face of the mouse from the tapestry. "I can't . . ." She was near tears again, almost hysterical. Lightning who had just fallen asleep woke when he heard his mother's distress. He shot a paw out reflexively, knocking the blanket from her shoulder. Kolia hurriedly pulled her shirt down to cover herself. She shifted rather suddenly to a more businesslike tone, "Roask wanted a hostage. That was the plan. He wanted to get into the Abbey and . . ." She rubbed her forehead with a paw. She was feeling confused. "He thought the best way was to . . ." the hysterical quality returned but she spoke more quietly now, "And after what I've done, I can't disappoint him."

The vixen reached out and stroked the upset weaselmaid's headfur soothingly. It's alright. What if I offered to come in Ally's place. Would it work for your Roask?

Batou had mainly just been standing by outside, but he had also been listening. He remembered that Ally was a friend of Gemma's and also new that any creature who was trying to take a hostage to get in to Redwall must not be a goodbeast, so he knew that he would have to free Ally. However, he wouldn't do so immediately, since under these circumstances, he'd probably be the only one thinking so analytically and objectively about this.
