Vrelt smiled back at Kolia, "Well it seems you're back to normal." The ferret warlord laughed for a second before becoming serious. "Did you cover your track as you followed us?" Vrelt hoped she did so that the beasts after him couldn't catch up with him.

Kolia rolled her eyes at the ferret, "Better than you did. I could have followed you in my sleep." As she spoke she put her older son down and picked up the younger. Thunder calmed immediately once he had what he wanted and his mother smiled at the silence. "You never would have found me if he," she nodded at the little whelp in her arms, "hadn't given me away."

Vrelt inclined his head slightly, "Well I guess those scum I left in town won't follow me. Unfortunately I angered a few vermin who I owe money to, they were the ones that came into the bar with me back there." He stared at Thunder, "He looks just like Roask." Vrelt smiled slightly at the whelp.

Kolia had to smile at the ferret's comment. The twins did look quite a lot like their father. "Not exactly," She tilted her head slightly as she looked at her son. "He has my eyes, my father's eyes . . . " She remembered the number of times creatures told her when she was growing up that she had her father's eyes. She was proud that her sons had inherited this trait. Quickeye: that was what her father was called and the name she had taken for herself in honor of him. Maybe this meant that they would also have inherited his tracking abilities.

"Hm." Sergei stated, looking over his shoulder anxiously to the south. He himself of course didn't know what his father looked like, and that sort of odd curiosity, along with many other things, ushered him to leave the two beasts and head out on his own to meet his long-lost father. Sure, there was some bad gossip revolving around him, but again it was just gossip. But what if all of it was true...? The weasel's paw balled into a fist for a short moment before he forced himself to relax it.
If it's true, then what am I? He thought.

Vrelt trained his gaze onto Thunder, staring at his eyes. "You're right. But he sure looks like Roask. He's gonna grow to be just like his dad." The ferret smiled his first real smile in a long time. Vrelt glanced over to Sergei for a moment, watching as the weasel clenched his fists, he looked like he wanted to slug someone hard, Vrelt thought.

Kolia had also noticed Sergei's tension and assumed, remembering what he had told her on the night the twins were born, that it had something to do with all the talk of fathers. "He's finished now." She assured the weasel knowing that he would just as soon leave her here. If he had done so she would just have tracked him down again. It would be easier now because she knew where he was headed. However, their destination being what it was she thought it would be better if they all stayed together. She tied the sling hurriedly around her shoulders and settled the twins inside it. Then she stood, "I'm ready."

Vrelt drew his rapier and pointed it in the direction of Redwall, "Let's go! Onward!" He smiled then sheathed his blade and gestured with one paw. The ferret had no idea about Sergei's mission to find his father, he was just coming along for the fun of it. After a short pause he looked over at Kolia, "You might want to cover up them a little bit more. It gets pretty cold here." He spoke of Roask's sons.

Sergei unfolded his arms and stood upright. " 'Kay. I was wonderin'..." He stopped himself before saying When we get to move to finish the sentence, realizing that in itself was a waste of time, as well as maybe a mite rude. He turned about and gestured for the two beasts to follow.
Well, five total now... He reminded himself. And he couldn't help but wonder who this Roask fellow was. Eh, it wasn't really any of his business. In fact, everything he did to help Kolia and the twins weren't his business. Well, he guessed it was a personal issue. He sighed, and continued to ponder as he walked through the forest, ahead of the group.

"I think I know how to take care of my own whelps," Kolia grumbled. She wasn't looking at the ferret or the direction Roask was leading them. She was concentrating on what she was best at: erasing any mark of the path their little group was traveling. She figured she might as well be useful. Sergei deserved that much from her for crashing his party. She did bundle the twins up a little more but not until she was sure Vrelt wasn't watching her.

Vrelt looked slightly irritated at Kolia, "Just trying to be helpful." The ferret turned away from her and walked away, coming slowly behind Sergei. Vrelt had developed a liking for Thunder, he didn't know why, the whelp reminded him of Roask he thought. Vrelt rested his paw on his blade, thinking silently to himself as he followed Sergei through the snow.

The weasel was silent as he paced ahead, walking for some time without looking back, until a tiny clearing appeared in front of them. An odd lump of dirt was underneath a bush in the middle of the clearing, deprived of its greenery. Sergei raised an eyebrow, smelling something akin to rotten eggs, or...
He prodded the dirt with a footpaw, and found it to be quite soft, He bent over it, just now seeing the outline of a ferret, sprawled out on the forest floor. He stepped back and drew his fighting dirks, faser than the blink of an eye, looking about and searching for danger.

Vrelt caught on to what Sergei saw, and faster than a blink of an eye he had drawn his rapier. Something or someone had killed the ferret, and left him there. He knew something was up, something that wasn't to pleasant. "Do you hear anything?" He asked Sergei in a quiet tone, one that seemed much more serious than he normally was.

Kolia, lagging behind the others, still covering their trail had also smelled the dead ferret. She didn't need to march up to it to know what it was. She bent down and pulled the dagger out of her boot. With her back to the others and one paw protectively placed around the sling, she scanned the forest for movement and sniffed the air for any other sign of company.

After a minute or so of total silence, Sergei abandoned his tense stance, but did not sheath his dirks. He again prodded the ferret, wiping his footpaw in the snow afterwards. Sighing, the weasel finally spoke.
"He's been dead awhile, I think. Whoever did it must've went on." He speculated. Who would hang around a dead body, anyway? He certainly didn't want to.
