Vrelt nodded slowly then glanced around the clearing, "Maybe. But the question is who killed 'im. Not where the killer has gone to." After a tense pause he sheathed his blade and continued looking around before turning to Kolia, "You're a tracker. See if you can find anything."

Kolia was repulsed by the smell of the decaying ferret but she merely made a face at Vrelt and stepped forward. She had to admit that she would much rather go with Sergei's plan and keep moving. She looked to the weasel hoping that he would tell her not to bother but part of her took Vrelt's comment as a challenge. "Sergei's right, he's been dead quite a while. With all this snow there's no way we could follow the killer." Thunder began crying as she had gotten closer to the source of the smell. She grimaced at Vrelt again as if it was his fault and bounced slightly, shushing her son.

Vrelt shook his head, "Maybe you're right. Still it wouldn't hurt to check." The ferret almost felt sorry for Thunder. He walked over to Kolia and smiled at Thunder, "It's alright mate. There's nothing to be afraid of around here." Vrelt turned away from Kolia, he hoped he didn't do more harm than good just now, Kolia's dagger could very well be thrown into his back for as much as a glance at Thunder.

"It's someone else's problem, Vrelt." Sergei said, brushing the snow back over the grisly thing to conceal it. He glances back at Thunder and Kolia, hearing the weaselbabe cry out again. He wondered how much of that he would have to endure, though he knew he was just being his usual self wondering that. He would have to develop his patience again...
"Come on." He said to the others, and took a few steps forward, now trying to let them keep pace with himself.

Kolia ignored Vrelt and continued to shush her infant as she walked. She noticed that Lightning was also red in the face with discomfort. She smiled knowing that if he hadn't been mute he would have been screaming twice as loud as his brother. "It's alright little ones," she crooned quietly to both of her sons, "Mama's got you and we're gonna find your daddy, real soon." She was actually surprised at how tender she could be but her heart beat with love for the two tiny whelps. They quieted at her voice and the steady motion of her stride. Kolia finally looked up after a while and realized that she had been neglecting her duties. Not bothering to tell the others what she was doing the weaslemum backtracked a ways and made sure that their tracks were suitably covered. She did this quickly and then hurried to catch up with Vrelt and Sergei.

Vrelt quickened his pace to walk along side Sergei. "So, why are you going to Redwall? Any reason in particular? You must have a reason to come there." The ferret had no reason whatsoever to come with Sergei, but he felt like wherever Kolia was, he had to be. Vrelt was concerned for her well being, as well as her being with Roask. That was the main reason for him coming, just to make sure nothing happens to Kolia.

Sergei keeps walking, looking ahead as he responds to the ferret, "If you think I'm really going into that place, you're wrong. Huh, woodlanders... Everything's evil to 'em..." He muttered aloud before pausing a bit. "Anyways, my reasons are my own, alright?" He seems a bit more annoyed now, more than usual. A tad angry, as well, maybe due to the topic at paw.

Vrelt simply shook his head, "I understand my friend. Don't worry about it, I didn't mean anything." The warlord understood completely why Sergei didn't want any one to know why he was headed that way. Sometimes Vrelt felt the same way. Sergei was no different. But still Vrelt didn't know what Sergei's reason for going there was.

Kolia caught up in time to hear the end of the argument. It sounded as if Vrelt was just talking to hear his own voice as usual. Sergei was going to have to get used to that lovely little personality quirk. She rolled her eyes. Their trail was suitably covered, no thanks to the males, and the twins had fallen asleep again with her gentle bouncing as she worked. "Well, we shouldn't have to worry about anyone trying to follow us," she announced her presence quietly, not expecting any thanks for the job well done.

Sergei glanced back at Kolia, and nodded. "Thanks." Of course, he wouldn't want to tell her that covering their tracks wouldn't really be necessary. Especially when she finished the task. It was always safer to take precautions, though. He looked back ahead, and saw a dip in the snow up ahead, which could only mean that the River Moss was nearby. They would have to cross it if they were to get to Redwall.

"Your welcome," The weaslemum smiled. She was unable to hide her pleasure and surprise. She tried to remember when if ever Roask had thanked her for doing a job. The thought made her miss him again. If she was doing her job what right did she have to expect thanks. Roask had been right to expect a job well done. He was the leader after all and it wasn't as if he hadn't rewarded her when they were alone. Kolia looked down at the twins sleeping in the sling. She just had to find him.

Vrelt kept pace with Sergei, but the ferret didn't say anything back to Kolia, he was trying to keep watch for any signs of the beasts that killed the ferret and left the body back in that clearing. He realized they were near the river. A place where Vrelt could either keep going with Kolia and Sergei, or go along the river, travel to the coast and return to Riftgard. He would have to make up his mind soon.

Sergei idly flicked a knife out of its sheath as he reached the bank of the river. Spinning it once or twice on a claw, he threw it and sunk the point into the ice of the river. Examining the small hole he created, the weasel sighed. It looked like the ice would be just thick enough to support a small rock. Not three...
Five beasts... He corrected himself.
He looked back at Vrelt and Kolia, saying, "The ice looks too thin. We'll have to find a narrow spot." He picked his dagger back up and cleaned it off before putting it back in its sheath.

Vrelt watched silently as Sergei threw the knife into the ice. Keeping his eyes trained on the river he tried to look downstream, but because of the snow falling nothing was visible. He decided to continue on with Sergei and Kolia, at least until he reached Redwall, maybe a bit longer. "Not what I would have liked to cross in. You'd get swept down faster than you could even let out a scream."

"Well that's a pleasant thought." Kolia made a face at Vrelt and continued along the river bank searching with her keen eyes. "I think we're in luck it looks like it does get narrower up ahead. She didn't wait for an answer but hurried on dreading the idea of crossing the half frozen river but willing to do what was necessary. She was more worried about the water's depth than it's width. She didn't want the twins to get wet. She could probably hold one of them over her head as she crossed but not both.
