''Oh Catori," she sighed melting into his arms. "I had no idea it would be so nice." Since he had rubbed her feet she didn't feel so tired and they way he was holding her was making her excited. "It's a bit like the honeymoon we never got to take, isn't it?"
((am I gonna have to get out my sign again?))

Catori grinned and nuzzled her cheek lovingly as he continued holding her. He kissed her cheek and stroked her head fur lovingly. It's all for you, Love. Every bit of it. I knew you hadn't been feeling well, so I hoped this would help make you feel better. [OOC: LOL You can if you want to.]

Okay tee hee Laney woke the next morning still wrapped in her husband's arms and deliriously happy. She was remembering the way he had carried her to the bed the night before and . . . sigh. She would have liked to lie there thinking about it all morning but then she remembered that she had an appointment with the otter fixer. She looked over at Catori still snoring away peacefully. Well, he wouldn't be allowed to come in for the physical exam anyway. She would just let him sleep for now. She kissed his brow softly and whispered, "I love you." He mumbled happily in his sleep. She got up and washed with water from a little pitcher and bowl that had been left there for that purpose. Then she dressed and fastened her belt around her waist. Forth notch, she thought. That had to mean they could start trying. A wave of nausea passed over her and she swallowed down the urge to throw up. All this excitement was doing funny things to her. Then she slipped out the door of the cottage and crossed the small distance over to the tent where she had been told the healer lived. Sardra Garge was an ancient and solitary beast. Her fur was solid silver from ears to ruddertip. She had already been awake for hours when she heard the soft call outside her tent of. "Er excuse me, I have an appointment with the otter fixer this morning." Sardra rolled her eyes. "Aye, o'course, come in." She had the young female lie down and proceeded with the physical exam. Laney chattered nervously through the whole procedure. Why do they always do that? Sardra thought annoyed. Then she washed her paws and prepared to give the girl the news she had discovered. "So you say two weeks ago you were on the second notch of the belt and now I see you're on the fourth and you've not been feeling well the last couple of days." "Yes," Laney answered and rushed on, "I've been trying hard to eat the things I need to and I've just been so excited about coming to see you. I figured that would be why. We were hoping you would tell us that we were ready to start trying for a baby soon. We had decided to be careful until you gave us the word." "Be careful huh?" the old one rolled her eyes again. "Zat what you were doin' last night?" Laney blushed scarlet, "You mean you can tell that from the exam?" "Exam? Who'd need the exam with all the shoutin' you two were doin', 'Tori, yes yes, do it again.'" She smiled at the look of horror on the young otterwife's face. "Tell me," she continued. "Were you 'being careful' about two weeks ago?" Laney looked everywhere but at the healer and answered shakily, "He'd just gotten back. I . . . I hadn't seen him in over four seasons. We were just so happy to be together again." "Alright, alright," The healer waved away her explanations. Laney just wanted to finish this and get away, "So is it okay for us to start trying for a baby or not?" The otter fixer sighed and looked with pity at the younger female, "There's no need to try. You're already carryin' a little one." ((okay Catori can come in now))

Catori yawned and stretched as his eyes opened. He looked around curiously, wondering where Lalena was, before remembering that her appoinment was that morning and laughing at his forgetfullness. He stood and stretched before belting his kilt on and heading outside into the cool morning air.

Lalena stared at the ancient otter, unable to quite understand what she had just heard. Then the nausea rose in her once again and this time she couldn't hold it back. She ran from the tent with her paw over her mouth and threw up just outside. When she straitened up, she saw Catori standing outside the little cottage where they had spent the night. She wasn't sure what to say to him.
Sardra followed Laney out and patted her on the back. She too saw Catori and called him over to the tent. "Come on, dad. I have somethings to tell both of you."

Catori ran over to Lalena and rubbed her back as she threw up and helped her to stand afterwords. He tilted his head curiously at what the otter fixer called him. Dad?

Laney looked up at him and nodded with a shy smile.
"Come on, come on in, both of you." Sardra led the way back into her tent and had the young couple sit down. She looked hard at Catori. "Aye, you are going to be a father. But as I told you several seasons back when you came to see me before. It's not going to be an easy pregnancy. She was too small then and even now she's only gaining weight for the baby. She's still thin as a rail everywhere else." She looked Laney up and down and turned back to Catori, looking at him as if this was all his fault. "She needs to take in as much nourishment as possible and that's going to be difficult since as you saw out there she's already gettin' mornin' sickness this early on. Eatin' doesn't help if she can't keep it down. And the little'n'll start takin' it's nutrition from her if it's not gettin' it from what she's eatin'." She put a paw on each of their shoulders. "She'll probably be on bed rest for a good deal of the time, and the kitt will most likely come early and be very small." She saw the look of fear on Laney's face and left off telling them that the babe might not even survive. She softened her voice a bit. "I don't want to scare you but you have to be aware of what's coming."

Catori nodded his understanding. Thank you, Ma'am. I'll ask my dad about it. He told me that my mom was the same way when she had me and that he had something special that he made for her that helped. I'll see if I can get the recipe from him. Hopefully it'll help.

Laney still wasn't feeling well and what the healer had just said didn't make her feel any better. She looked up at Catori for strength. She had no idea that he and his father had talked about this. He sounded so certain, so hopeful. She smiled at him thankfully, knowing that he would to everything in his power to make sure that she and their kitt would be safe and healthy.
Sardra nodded at Catori his statement had brought to her remembrance when his parents had come to her all those seasons ago. "I know of your father's remedy. It's not fool proof but it should help some." She looked at the way the two young otters looked at one another and thought of one last thing to tell them. "Now there's one question you haven't asked me and I'm sure both of you have thought of it but yore just to silly to ask. You'll want to know if what you were up to last night is safe for the little'n."
Laney blushed again she actually hadn't thought that far ahead yet but she was sure it would have come into her mind eventually.
Sardra smirked, "I don't see a problem with it until you get closer to time. You're young and if you feel up to it, I say knock yourselves out."

Catori grinned shyly and ducked his head as a deep blush tinged his fur slightly red. He leaned over and kissed Lalena's cheek as he whispered in her ear quietly, Don't you worry about a thing, Love. I swear on me life that I'll do everythin' in my power to protect you an' our little 'un.

"I never doubted it for a moment," she whispered back to him. And then something that he had said jumped out at her, 'our little'un'. The idea was suddenly real to her. Laney put her hand on her stomach and an amazing feeling of love for this kitt surged through her.

Catori smiled and placed his paw on to of hers gently. He nuzzled her neck happily and niped at her whiskers playfully. He was happier than he'd ever been in his life. He was back home with his wife and parents, and they were having a Kitt. The only that was missing was his younger brother, Kodi.

"Alright, alright," said the healer, "just 'cause I gave you permission doesn't mean ye need to do it right here." She smiled almost in spite of herself. "Well, if love were the predictor of things turning out alright, I'd say you two have nothing to worry about. Just take it easy. I'd advise staying here at the camp a few days and then don't do the walk back all in one day like you did coming. Take your time and let this mommy rest when she's tired." Sardra patted Laney's knee. "Now get out of here before you make me ill with all your carryin' on."
"Thank you," Lalena said quietly to the old healer, "for everything."

Catori blushed deeply, but nodded his agreement. Thank you so much, Ma'am. We really appreciate it. Catori stood carefully and held out a paw to Lalena to help her up as well. You feeling up to eating anything at all, Laney?

"I suppose I ought to try at least," She smiled taking his paw and allowing him to lead her out of the tent. They headed toward the main holt from which floated the delicious smell of something baking. Lalena was bubbling over with joy. She put her paw on her stomach again. "Catori, our own kitt, I can hardly believe it's true."
