Obviously there was something about where she was going that she didn't want known, at least not to him. It must've been someplace he wouldn't want to hear, since the rest of the group must've known where she was going. He decided to find out later and answer her other question. "Well, I worked as a guard there. I didn't really do much, except for stay up for my shift every night."

Gemma had a sudden pang of conscience and bit her lip. If he was the one, she didn't want to start out their relationship with a lie. "I'm going to Salamandastron," she burst out and then she waited for him to comment, looking at him seriously.

"Umm... all right. Was that what I was going to have a problem with? Because if it was, it's fine by me. Oh, I've got it. You thought I'd worry you were going to find another badger up at Salamandastron. Well, you were honest enough to tell me that, so I can assume that you are honest enough to be truthful when you say you're visiting your hare friend."

Gemma breathed a small sigh of relief and then smiled, thinking herself very silly to have been worried about it in the first place. "Yes, I'm going purely to see Ally and then I'm coming right back. I'll probably be back quick enough that you could take the troupe on to Redwall and I could meet you there." Then in the blink of an eye Gemma was back in her flirtatious mood. "Of course you would be a little jealous if I went to visit the badger lord, wouldn't you?" she crooned the words and as she did went back to tracing designs on his vest with her paw.

"Well, I suppose any badger would be a bit worried if his possible mate went to see him. I mean, how do you compete with the Badger Lord?" Batou said jokingly.

It was exactly the answer Gemma had wanted to hear, and hearing it made a tingle run through her from her ears right down to her foot paws. She grinned up at him, "You really think we've got something here?"

"I think so. It'll probably be just a matter of time before we both "know so". Well, I'm fine with taking your group to Redwall for you. They're not going to need you as soon as they get there, right?

A matter of time, she thought well that was fair and it meant he wanted to stick around for a while. She smiled. "Thanks. No I don't think they'll be needing me. They'll be too busy scoffing and making friends or finding old ones. And I'll be there soon enough. I've got all the more reason to hurry now, don't I?" Again she wondered if it was even necessary for her to go and see her friend. She could just stay here, travel leisurely to Redwall, with Batou at her side, maybe make that matter of time sooner rather than later. . . but no she had promised Ally that she would come to see her the next time she was near enough. She sighed, "I suppose I better go and get some sleep if I want to get out of here at first light. Sooner I leave, the sooner I get back, right?" But she didn't really want to leave him. She wanted him to stop her even if it meant she'd be tired tomorrow.

As good as Batou was at reading an enemy in combat, he was terrible at reading Gemma. "Yeah, i know what you mean. A lack of sleep can mess you up in so many different ways.

She sighed, Males and decided to use another tactic. "Unless you wanted to . . . er . . . I don't know. . . it is a lovely night." She looked up at the stars, hoping he'd get the hint, wondering if she'd have to spell it out.

Batou thought he had figured it out, but wasn't quite sure. "Well we could keep walking if you want to. Your call if you want to be tired or not tomorrow."

Gemma smiled at him and nodded slightly, wanting him to know that he was starting to get the idea. "I don't think it'll do much harm for me to stay up a little longer. That is if you want to. . ." To do what exactly? She didn't know but she was sure they could think of something.

Batou yawned. "I don't really know. We don't really have anything specific planned, and I'm getting tired, and in theory, you should be too. I think I'm heading back to the camp," Batou said, though he was pretty sure she would say something in an attempt to stop him. He was so tired, though, that he couldn't imagine wanting to do anything Gemma could possibly come up with.

"Oh alright, fine." The badgermaid pouted, "I'll show you were you can sleep for the night." She started back towards the camp and then stopped choosing to try another jab at his jealous nature. He was a bloodwrath beast after all and wasn't their passion for other things supposed to be just a fiery as it was in battle? "It would be good for me to get some rest before I go to the badger mountain. Because who knows who I'll meet there. I wouldn't want to be to tired to accept the hospitality of any new friends."

The only problem with her strategy was that at this point Batou was too tired to process that correctly. If he was thinking about anything it was the possible battlefield dangers of a lack of sleep, which in his mind was all the more reason why he and Gemma should get back to the camp. "Yeah, that would be a shame. I guess you and I both should get some rest then."
