It was a fair day, with only a few puffy clouds scudding across the sky. Watery sunlight filtered down to the pond, for it was still rather early and the great gold disk had yet to rise up above the trees of Mossflower. The surface of the pond shimmered as ripples slowly widened and a small, flat stone sunk in crazy circles down into the murk at the bottom.
Bee tossed another stone in her paw, strolling along the pond's edge. She didn't particularly like water (unless she was using it to cook, that is), but skipping stones had become one of her favorite pastimes, and she had only just recently achieved sixteen skips. At first it had been hard to work around her digging claws, but eventually she had gotten the knack of it and now it was no longer a challenge to send one of her specially picked 'flatstones' (she had named them thus when she was just out of dibbunhood) skimming across the pond for eight or nine skips on average.
She had time to spare this morning, and it was not nearly time to start breakfast, and it seemed as if it had been ages since she had had any time to just go and skip.

Abbess Saol was concerned for her squirrel friend. She had been sulking since the departure of Silas and the wolf siblings. No matter what Tamar said, Saol was sure that the squirrelmaid had developed some sort of feelings for Silas. So she led Tamar toward the pond to try to help her get her mind off things or maybe get her to open up about her thoughts. Saol heard the splash of the flatstones before she saw the other molemaid and she smiled she knew who it would be. Next to Tamar, Bee was one of her best friends. "Hurlo, Bee, that be a gurt skip you'm jus' did. Oi coun'ed 'leas eight."
Tamar looked up and noticed the little mole, "Oh, hello, Bee," She sighed distractedly.

Kippo suddenly popped out of the pond and jumped right beside Tamar. "Hello Tamar, Bee, and Saol! Lovely day, isn't it?" He reached into his bag and took out a toy bird on a string. "Look at this! I made it with a piece of metal and a string and I based it on the bird found by Mariel and Dandin all those seasons ago. And yes...I know I am not a member of Redwall, but I had to see this place for my self!" He took out his snack sack and began distributing a small leaf-wrapped package filled with oats and nuts he had found in Mossflower. He then dived into the pond and floated on his belly deciding what to do for the day.

Flitch came over his longbow over his should as usual. "How are the lot of you?" He said in his stern voice. He was liking Redwall a lot. But he never forgot his purpose. He was spying for his master Emperor Teague. He had a feeling that he would have to make a report soon. So he was going to go to the river moss in a few days to make his report. He smiled friendly at the other abbey beats. He remembered when he lived here has a young one. He had hated it. He thought quickly back to Teague and his meeting. He decided he would slip out at day this time instead of night.

"Well hello there. Someone is not happy." Kippo declared. "What is it? Your face says a lot, you know...ahhh, whatever." Kippo dived under, only to jump out and inspect Filtch. Kippo walked around him, then took his hands and plopped a snack box in them. Kippo looked at Filtch's face and got a slight chill. "Have you ever tried a nut and oat box? They are really delicious!"

"No. I favor roasted fish and bird. I do not like that kind of stuff. But I will try it." Flitch did not like this otter too much. He was worried that it might be on to him. He wondered what a nut tasted like.

"Good! You can expand your palate and be able to live off more things. Plus, i think yours has a macadamia." Kippo resumed floating on the pond and asked Filtch a question. "What brought you to redwall, Filtch? Yes, it does have good food, good people, and good homes, but thats never always the reason. The only reason im not one is because they are too restictive to my needs, no offense Abbess. But thats my reason for not being a memeber...what about you?"

"I grew up in the mossflower and was very poor. So I came here. Sometimes I go out just to hunt birds since fighting is so fun and I can not here." Flitch smiled for a brief second." I think I am going to go fishing soon."

"wait a...did you...you smiled! YAY! I SAW IT! uh...sorry...i have not seen you smile. I am a lone otter, to be exact...but i might create a small group to go neutral and do stuff. I will gladly go fishing with you, in fact i love fish. Give me a moment." Kippo dived under the water, only to return with 2 rods. "I keep them under so no one can find them." Kippo reached his paw out to give 1 rod to Filtch.

Flitch shook is head. " I do not use rods for fishing."He said this as he unsouldered his bow and layed out his quiver of arrows. He picked a random arrow, tested the point against his paw. He then knocked the arrow to his bow aimed carefully at the water and let go of the string. He then put down is bow walked over to the water and picked up a dead fish with an arrow in it. "See I do not use a fishing rod in fact I do not know how to use one."

"Nor do I! In fact, i like your style better!" Kippo took out a throwing dagger and threw it in the water at an omnious fish-shaped blur. He dived in and grabbed the dagger witha large fish and 2 guppies. Kippo threw the fish into a basket and sat down. "Your shot Flitch!"

"Okay." Flitch chose a arrow that was shorter then the rest. He knocked it to his bow. He shut his right eye and pulled back on the bow and let go. The arrow zipped into the water and hit a large fish. He walked over to the pond and scooped out the fish with his bow."Like it?" He said holding up a large greyling.

Shocked by the size of the fish, Kippo dived into the lake. Kippo searched the water and found a large trout swimming. He took his 2 dirks out and stabbed the fish in the head. Kippo poped out and gave the fish to Flitch. "here is a equal sized one...yours is fatter though." Kippo therw the fish to the basket.

"Let us roast these so we can eat them. Roasted fish is the best." Flitch smiled at Kippo this was the best otter he had ever known. He then stopped smiling. He had forgotten all about Teague at the moment.

"I know...what is it? You seem like you forgot someting, or remembered something. You were just smiling." Kippo threw down his dirks and Looked flitch dead in the eye. "You seem troubled." Kippo began to start a fire for the fish.
