The old otter couple were rushing around the holt packing all the things they thought they would need. Father packed his fishing rod. Mother packed her knitting. "Oh don't you worry about a thing we'll be the most surprised grandbeasts you ever saw." Then she found a little pair of booties she had knitted for Catori when he was a baby. She exclaimed over their cuteness and put them into her bag.
Laney tilted her head to the side amazed that he didn't know the answer to that question. Surely she had thanked him for it a million times before but maybe she had thought it so often she only thought she had expressed it out loud. "Tori, you saved my life. I would be dead if you hadn't found me and nursed me back to health. But more than that you made me want to live again. You're my hero."

Skipper watched amusedly as the couple rushed about packing things. He'd always wondered what it would be like to Kitts and grandkitts. He just hoped he'd have the chance to find out someday. Catori held his wife close to him and nuzzled her neck lovingly. You saved me too, Love. I'd probably be dead by now if it weren't for you. You're all that's kept me hanging on this long.

"That should be everything," Catori's mother looked around the holt to see if there was anything she may have forgotten. "I certainly hope so I don't think there's anything left," Catori's father squeeze his wife's paw as he shouldered his own bag. Then he lifted his wife's bag pretending that it was too heavy. He grinned at her and then easily handed it over to Ronan.
Laney snuggled even closer to her husband just enjoying their being together. Then she gave a little jump. "Catori," she whispered trying to be as still as she could. "He kicked." She took her husband's paw and placed it on her stomach.

Ronan laughed and hefted the bag over his shoulder easily. Right then. Foller me. He headed out of the holt and waited by the door for them so he could take them up to the Abbey. Catori smiled and rubbed her stomach lovingly. His smile grew bigger after a moment and he hugged her excitedly. I felt him kick too, Love.

The old otter couple followed Ronan swiftly through the woods. Their excitement to see their son and daughter-in-law and share with them this wonderful news, lent speed to their steps.
Laney and Catori spent a pleasent afternoon trying to guess which kinds of food the kitt liked best. Laney would eat one of the foods Catori had brought to her and then they would wait to see if the baby would kick. Then she would try another.
Elthia checked on the them a couple of times when she could get away from her other patients. She didn't want to disturb them but at the same time it was so sweet to watch the way the two soon-to-be parents acted. Again she wished that she could experience that happiness for herself one day.

The Skipper led them straight into the infirmary and walked over to Elthia quietly to ask where the two otters were since he didn't see them and hadn't known about the room they had been moved into. Catori layed his head on his wife's shoulder and kept a paw on her stomach, waiting happily to feel the Kitt kick again as he dozed contently.

Elthia smiled and thanked Ronan again for going to get Catori's parents, "I gave Laney and Catori a private room since they're going to be with us a while. They were resting a little while ago when I checked. I think Laney could do with a bit more sleep but I'll see if Catori would like to come out and say hello." She knocked quietly on the door and opened it a crack. "Catori," she whispered. "Your parent's have arrived."

Catori looked up as Elthia walked in and nodded in acknowledgement of her words. He stood carefully and kissed his sleeping wife's forehead softly before walking out quietly to greet his parents.

Catori's mother ran right over to him and embraced him. His father stood back a pace and watched, "Well, now son what's all this?" He winked at Skipper and tried to keep a strait face until his son could spill the news. "We thought you and Lalena were going to see the otter fixer and come right back home."
Elthia smiled at the reunion and grabbed Skipper's arm, pulling him away so that the family could be alone.

Catori hugged his mother happily and smiled excitedly. We were going to come stright back but something came up. See, while we were with the otter fixer, we found out some exciting news. Laney's pregnant. Only thing is, while we were headed back, something happened so I brought her here. That's when we were told she had to be on bedrest until she delivers the Kitt. Everything's alright, though. So no worries. The Skipper laughed quietly and happily allowed himself to be pulled from the room by the healer.

"Oh Catori, we're so happy for you." His mother smiled. "We'd hoped it was something like that. Well not the part about Laney not doing so well but this really is the best place the two of you could be. And we will stay here with you as long as you need us."
Emboldened by the happiness she felt for the other otter couple, Elthia looked up at Skipper and smiled, "So what do you think about all this business?"

Catori smiled back and kissed his mother's cheek. Thanks, Mom. We really wanted you two to be there when the Kitt was born so this really means a lot to us. She'll be really glad to see you two when she wakes up. She was sleeping when I came out, though. Skip smiled back and twitched his rudder happily. I think it's all very excitin'. I'm really happy fer those two. I just hopes I get the chance to have a family of me own someday.

Laney was unsure of where she was when she first awoke. The light was dim as the winter sun had already sunk most of the way behind the horizon and the lamps in the small room had not yet been lit. She saw a small sliver of light coming from the partially open door into the main infirmary door. Then she heard voices one of them belonged to her husband and the others sounded familiar but they were too low for her to be sure. "Catori," she called out. "Who are you talking to?"
"You. . . Really?" Elthia answered him, a mite too excitedly and then she caught herself. She looked down at her paws loosing her earlier bravado. "I mean . . . a family would be nice some day." She had no right to assume that he might like to start a family with her.

Catori smiled and motioned for his parents to follow him as he headed back into their room. Hey, Love. Guess who's here. He stepped inside the room and off to the side, leaving his parents in full view as he went over to his wife's side. Skipper looked down at her and smiled knowingly as he tilted her chin up toward him with a gentle hand. I can't think of anything I'd love more.

Laney squinted at the two otters for a moment as they were backlit from the doorway and hard to see. She was also still a little tired having just woken up from her nap, "Mother, Father?" Then as they rushed over to see her, "It is you! Oh I'm so glad you're here." She smiled fully awake now. "We need some light in here." Catori's father lit the lamp on one side of the bed and his mother came and sat next to Laney and hugged her. "Congratulations, Mama." Her mother-in-law exclaimed excitedly.
"Sweet Martin," Elthia breathed. Alright assumptions are back on. The look in his eye, did she dare call it love?, returned some of her bravery, "You mean . . . you . . . and me. . .?
