Moonclaw took into account everything he saw and heard. It was obvious that all creatures in question had spotted him, and if any hadn't the big cat's greeting had made them aware of his presence. Should he trust the cat? Or should he try and fight his way out? The blue monitor flicked his tail decisively.
He would go forward. Before he did, however he noted several important facts. One fox was tensed like a steel spring, as the monitor flicked his tounge out he could taste the adrenaline the fox exhuded. The other fox saw him as a large threat, as evidenced by his shift in position. The cats were unafraid, but still wary of him. Mentally plotting, he began his approach.
"Greetingz, cat!" he began lumbering closer "Zafe you zay? Yez I have no doubt theze foxez would give your force no trouble. Or are they alliez?" He eyed Dante, whom he could sense was taken aback by his appearance. The monitor carefully made sure everybeast present was in front of him. No use getting careless out of hunger.

Dante was aware of the fact that he obviously had made aware the fact that he wasn't drunk. He didn't care. He honestly just wanted out of the situation. He knew none of these beasts were allies, and none of them trusted him. He decided to try and make aquaintance with the cats.
"No, I'm not a drunk. I detest alchohol. However, A drunk often isn't regarded as a threat."

At first taken aback by the other fox's candidness, Tunden instantly recovered. "You should be more careful in the future," he warned. "It is often drunks that are belligerent and start fights. A warrior with half a brain always keeps his guard up around drunks."
Facing Dante with a stern and intense expression, Tunden continued. "Now what crazy idea was it that led you to act so? Why should you try to deceive a group of heavily armed beasts this substantial?"
All the while he kept the great monitor lizard in his peripheral vision and his right paw close to his sword hilt in case anything happened. His arms were still crossed so that his shield was in front of him hiding what his right paw was doing. He decided to relax his arms and let them hang so that all the beasts around could see what he was doing. This served to lower the adrenaline level of the surrounding beasts while he kept his own high in case of action. This was a very important skill in confrontations and self defense, easing the adrenaline level of the adversary while heightening one's own. It would give a significant advantage should combat actually begin. He hoped, however, not to have to enter combat with any beast at the moment.

One of the three cats that were keeping an eye on Dante spoke. "We had even seen drunks kill other beasts before they pass out. They are only stupider and more wobbly, but not much less dangerous. "
The cat that had talked to the monitor spoke again in reply to the huge bluescaled reptile. "We have just met theze two, They are neutral. They won't cauze you any problemz." Again, still using the same type of speech monitors use to keep the monitor at a much happier and calmer state. The cat than pointed a claw at the monitor lizard. "The color of your zcalez. Are you ill? Do you need any help from a healer?" Most monitors who were unhealthy or sick had slight color changes in their scales. Enough to be noticeable. Being so blueish. The cat thought Moonclaw had some more rarer illness or something.
The Cat Sergeant kept his mouth shut. Tunden was for now talking to Dante and waiting for his reply. He would simply wait until their conversation is over and Tunden would come back to talking to him. He was not worried. He had the numbers and experience on his side no matter what happened. Besides, from where things are going now. Things were going along much better than he thought it wound go. He was expecting all hell to break lose when the monitor showed up! But lucky nothing too bad had happened..... Yet.

The big lizard lowered his arms to his sides, as if relaxing. he sensed much tension, but not yet any danger. He was now in good reach of his daggers if he needed them. He spoke to the cat. "I zuffer from no illnezz, friend." he didn't find it odd that the cat had asked, his mother had though him hatched dead when she saw his coloration, "It iz a natural oddity."
Now he thought To zee if where they're headed...and perhapz acquire zome vittlez. Moonclaw directed his question at the cat who looked to have an air of leadership about him. "Where and you and your catz headed to, zir?"

"Looking like a drunk can allow me an enough of a lack of attention to slip past groups such as youselves. If I had felt threatened to any extent, you never would have known I was here. That, I can assure you of." Dante said. He jerked his arm upward slightly. Momentum carried the assassin's blade back up into it's sheath. He then looked Moonclaw in the eyes.
"Are you friend or foe?"

"What about you. Are you a friend or a foe?" Tunden interjected. "You still haven't answered my question. What was the idea of pretending like you were drunk?"
The opposite fox seemed strange indeed. Why should he pull such a stunt as pretending to be drunk? Was he a thief trying to snatch one of Tunden's fine weapons or food from the cats? Perhaps he was insatiably curious, or at least enough to foolishly approach warriors in a possibly threatening way. The Beast at Arms had been required on several occasions to deal with a belligerent drunk and never trusted a drunk beast. This other fox, however, was now even more distrustful. What did he hope to accomplish?
The great monitor on the other hand did not seem to be a threat... at least at the moment. He was certainly dangerous, but he appeared to bear no hostility or immediate evil intent. His approach had been direct and without deceit.

"Simply, the intent was to slip past and still be able to check for any real threat from you, without seeming obvious, and therefore getting myself endangered." Dante said, relaxing his posture slightly. He still didn't turn is back to the moniter, however.
"I am not a foe. I had intended, after I had drawn close and seen wether you were of any danger to me, to ask wether you had either seen a Black Fox around, or could direct me to the abbey of redwall."

A natural oddity.... The cat thought. At least he is not ill or sick. We could not allow those who are suffering from unknown and possibly incurable illnesses to come to our base of operations.... That would be a disaster.
"We were going to finish our scouting and than head back to the Castle for reporting.... You know... We could use some monitors in the royal guard. If your interested...."
The cat that had spoke to Dante spoke again. " We have not seen any black fox around here. Though we do know Redwall's direction. It's that way" Pointing to it's direction. The cat had no problem giving out Redwall's location at all. They had no alliance with it whatsoever. So they really didn't need to keep any secrets about it from this fox. Besides, if it made the fox make a like a bird and go away. More power to them.

"Hmmm. I should certainly like to see Redwall," Tunden mused aloud. Then he faced the cats. "But your offer is intriguing. I would certainly like to learn more about this offer you have made."
There seemed to be no trouble then. The other fox was just strange and had strange notions about honorable beasts. The monitor was fearsome but did not seem to be hostile. Even still, Tunden remained ready to act; he would not allow himself to be surprised.
"It seems you have much to learn about honorable beasts," he continued to the opposite fox. "Even if you drew near and deceived us, by then asking where Redwall was, you would cast suspicion on yourself as you have now done. It is often better to be honest and straightforward. If we were a threat, it would be better for you to learn from a distance by presenting yourself as he has done," he motioned toward the monitor. "Then you would be in much less danger and could escape much easier."
Perhaps the Beast at Arms should have just let the fox alone, but he often felt compelled to teach others.
((sorry it took so long. I thought Karasu or Garret might post first since it would flow better, but oh well.))

"I must state that you have no idea whom yor're attempting to teach in the ways of stealth and honor." Dante said, glancing at Moonclaw. "And I doubt he intented to be seen. He was lurking in the shade, off to the side of the path."
"I will thank you, then, for pointing me toward Redwall. If we should meet again, I may just tell you why. Someone like you may find use in my... talents." He said, and started off in the direction he'd been pointed in.
((Sorry, gents, but I'm out.))
