Tallula was seeing the rivalry heating up and made it clear on who's side she was on. Daddy's side! Every time Draygo was not looking at her but Vrelt was noticing her. She would point or run a claw on the side of her neck or thigh, two places were important arteries are. Common mistake pirates made was cutting the front of the throat where the jugular vein is NOT at! It's located on the SIDE of the throat. Her mother being in a warrior tribe before she got kicked out had always paid close attention on where the male warriors (which were always male) struck when they were fighting or how they fought and managed to teach her daughter a trick or two about it before she herself got killed. She was trying to hint Vrelt on where to strike Draygo if they did indeed go into a fight.
Only problem? She could not TELL him that! She required Jayne to translate what she says to others and she was not gonna translate THIS to Vrelt! So maybe or maybe not Vrelt would not get it.... Let alone understand it.

Out of the corner of his eye, the warlord saw Tallula point one of her claws to the side of her throat and making a slashing gesture repeatedly along either there or on her thigh. At first, Vrelt had no clue as to what she was attempting to tell him, but he understood after one more gesture, a slash along the side of her neck. She was trying to show him where to strike Draygo or Mr. Hayes in a fight! He saw that move used the right way only once, and that was when the mongoose he employed as bodyguard killed an insolent pirate captain who refused to give Vrelt the best of his plunder. Vrelt fought to keep himself from smiling; his daughter was truly a Darkfang! For the majority of children were never that cunning, but this one, she had a Darkfang mind. He was already extremely proud of Tallula after just a short time of knowing her, she would be a perfect heir to his throne in the future.
As he realized what Tallula was trying to tell him, he was speaking to the ferret captain. "Don't worry, Captain. Once Tallula can speak our language, this ferretmaid can come back to join your crew, but until then, she will remain here. I will see to it that another large payment will be delivered to your ship. You will go back to the seas and gather any information you can and any exotic goods, and once you return, she can go back with you. Understand?"
Draygo's expression didn't change as he replied to the warlord, "Do I have a choice?" He wanted to leap at the other ferret and tear him to pieces, but that would do nothing for him except to result in his death at the paws of all those guards. The captain looked back at Jayne, with a distant expression, and spoke softly to her. "I'm sorry, Jayne. There's nothing I can do this time."

Jayne looked the captain in the eyes. She was sure it probably wasn't right for a crew member to look at her captain like that, but then it probably wasn't common practice for a captain to look at a member of his crew the way he was doing right now either. She wanted to say something to let him know that she didn't blame him. She had been bought and sold so many times it should have been old hat. This was far different than any other transaction she had been part of though. The captain had freed her. He had rescued her. She opened her mouth to say something but the only thing that came out was his name, "Draygo . . ."

Draygo couldn't bear leaving the ferretmaid here, with Vrelt Darkfang. His normally harsh eyes seemed soft for a brief moment as he looked into the green eyes of Jayne, but he could do nothing to keep her with him. The captain bit back an emotional response to her and straightened his shoulders, he was going out of this palace defeated, at least he was going out with his pride still intact. Draygo started toward the door without a passing glance at his rival, but his emotions won out for once and the ferret turned back to meet eyes with Jayne, "Don't worry. I'll return soon." With those words the captain left the throne room, shoving the doors open as Mr. Hayes followed, silent through the whole incident as always.
Vrelt smiled at Conan when Draygo left, "That went much smoother than I thought." The warlord was obviously delighted with the results of that meeting, he had managed to get updated information about the happenings of the nearby islands and he got a ferretmaid who could teach his daughter. Not to mention the fact that this particular ferretmaid was far from bad looking, with Draygo out of the way, he thought he had got the best of that deal. But it was time to get to business, Tallula had to start learning some time, so why not now? Vrelt again addressed Conan, "Go and find Commander Romsca. She can assist this ferretmaid to teach Tallula."

He felt something for her. She knew it. She was more than just a crew member to him. Jayne watched the door he had exited through, digesting this revelation. Then in a delayed reaction she took a step towards it and stretched out her paw.
"Not since Crailius . . ." the ferretmaid whispered in mink. She didn't even realize that she had reverted to her old friend's language. But then he had really been more than a friend. Just like Draygo. she thought.
((thought I'd have her speak in mink so cole could have another in. Tallula wouldn't know Crailius because he was taken from the new world as a slave before she was born but she would probably recognize it as a common mink name.))

Tallula looked up at the green eyed ferret and lowed an ear and raised another. Crailius? Though she did not know the beast. She knew the name well, in fact. In her home land. It was a fairly common name.
The mink/ferret pulled the ferret's paw gently and said " Who is Crailius and what do you mean ' not since?' "

Jayne blinked and looked down at the little mink holding her paw. She smiled sadly and tried to think of an age appropriate way to explain her relationship to the Crailius. "He was . . . a friend, a very good friend. I would have died pulling an oar in a galley if he hadn't been chained next to me and taken up the slack. And. . ." She looked back at the door the way Draygo had gone. "He used to look at me like my chief just did."
((getting curious Vrelt? since you have no idea what she's saying. I'm interested to hear Tallula's reaction also. I'd imagine she's a little more mature than Jayne figures she is.))

Tallula twitched an ear and made a face of slight confusion. " A friend?" Tallula in a way never really had friends before. Not in the New World, not in the slave ship and not now..... At lest she thought. No one had asked her to be her friend. Only thing she really had now was a father and his tribe...
Conan was already gone, going through hallways searching for Romsca. If she was not in the fortress though, she was often at the docks, but they had already been there minutes before..... Bar maybe?

The warlord had no clue as to what the ferretmaid and his daughter were discussing, whatever it was it apparently had something to do with Draygo, judging by the way she looked when he left. Vrelt allowed the two to keep talking, at least for a little while, just until Conan returned with Romsca, but seeing as it might take some time for the captain to find her, he decided to enter their conversation. "What are you telling her?" The ferret also had one other question for the ferretmaid, "And I would also like to know your name."
Romsca was not at the docks presently, nor was she at any of the taverns. The ferretmaid was within her chambers, working to complete a new map of the region, she was seated at her desk which was covered with various mapping tools as well as a chalice of wine and the current maps of the region. One of Romsca's most important duties as the commander of Riftgard's navy was to ensure all the captains were armed with accurate maps of the seas, that helped tremendously when it came to maintaining the largest fleet currently sailing. Romsca sipped the wine as she sketched a line of reefs along the eastern shore of one of the many small islands that were located near the New World, her mind was on the task at paw, unaware that Conan was searching for her.

Jayne shot a quick, frightened look at the monarch and then dropped her eyes to the floor. "My name is Jayne, Your Majesty. And I was . . ." She didn't really want to share with him the cherished memories of her friend. "I was telling her about the mink I knew, the one who taught me to speak their language."
