There. Finally. I've been waiting forever In reality, it'd only been a couple hours, but Kal was an impatient squirrel, and he had other things that he'd rather be doing. The short and wiry treeclimber made his way through the scarce crowd towards Drask but his step faltered when he saw the large group. Jeff didn't mention anything about them. Maybe they're just friends from the flight he thought optimistically, knowing that that wasn't the case. They all had the same look...
"Drask Darkfang? I'm Kal Skirata. Jeff Muldrum hired me to get you to the site. The snowmobile's outside, so we can go whenever you're ready."

Penny wasn't normally the jealous sort. So perhaps that's why the twinge she felt was so surprising even to the ferretmaid herself. She had of course never really had a reason to be jealous of anybeast before. It really was rather silly for her to even be debating with herself about this. She smiled, although her voice came out a little tighter sounding to her own ears than she meant it to. "He didn't really drag me. I just graduated and I wanted to get some field experience is all."
She was almost glad when the squirrel guide came forward and introduced himself but she spoke up about her own ill preparedness. The sweater she had brought to wear over her tee-shirt in case the trip home to Phoenix got chilly was clearly not going to cut it. "I'm going to need a coat and some other supplies before we get too far."

"Pardon my being abrupt, ma'am, but who the hell are you? Meldrum told me of only one passenger, and I've prepared as such. I only have room for one passenger on the snowmobile." he said shortly, as his phone started ringing in his pocket. "Damned things are always ringing at the wrong moments." he muttered under his breath as he pulled it out. "Skirata here.....What? How many?.......Seriously?.......Well you gave pretty short notice, they're already here! Damnit Jeff!" he hung up irately. "It appears I am to accomodate the lot of you. As such, I will take one of you to come back to base with me so we can drive the two transport vehicles out here. Volunteers? I need somebody good at driving tracked vehicles."

Drask looked at the small group, checking to see if any other beast would volunteer to go with Kal. It wasn't like him to assume the role of leader, but he guessed it fell on his shoulders since no other beast spoke. He glanced at his uncle, who gave him a nod, willing him to take charge this time. Drask finally spoke up to Kal. "Well, I have no experience driving tracked vehicles, Mr. Skirata, but I'll...."
Drask was cut off as Dave spoke, "I've driven some before. I can go back to base with Kal here, and then we can come pick the rest of you up." The otter spent his fair share of time here at the Last Frontier, he was very familiar with the weather and such, so it was best if he traveled to the base with Kal, instead of Drask.
Drask nodded, then looked back to Kal, "So it's settled. You and Dave can head back to base, while the rest of us get some gear appropriate for the weather. As you can see, all of us left on short notice." He hoped Kal didn't mind the quick plan set up between him and Dave, it seemed that it would work out, but Drask didn't know Kal, maybe the squirrel would prefer to get this together, instead of him and Dave.
Jeska added her voice to the planning, "But right now we need to go get our bags. So let's get going before the sun goes down, and the temperature." The ferretmaid didn't like just standing around, she liked to get things done quickly and decisively, wasting time was one of the things she hated the most. Like Penny, she was totally unprepared for the cold, it was important to get some warmer clothes. Jeska realized that she completely ignored Penny's response, in her haste to contribute to the planning. If this other ferretmaid was coming with them, Jeska didn't want the two of them starting off on bad terms, so she turned back to Penny, "Field experience eh? Well, there's no better place to get it than Alaska. Once you've made it hear, you can make just about anywhere else. By the way, I'm Jeska Kiper, I went to college with Drask a couple years ago, that's how I knew him."
While all this was going on, Travis remained silent, the middle aged ferret had put together more expeditions than all these younger beasts had combined. He felt that they should get a chance at taking the lead, instead of allowing the veteran to take charge. This expedition things would be different, he would try to play more the role of scientist than team leader, for he had many questions to answer that would be harder to solve if he was in charge. First, he wanted to know what killed the rangers, because it obviously wasn't a bear. Second, if it was indeed a bear, why the hell was it out of hibernation? That was what interested him the most, though he didn't think any of the others with him had reached the same conclusion.
