((yup that's the plan)) Unnerved by the silence, Penny tried to get Drask talking again and she tried to do so with as much good natured humor as possible. "Well if you can't tell me what you're going to be doing in Alaska maybe you can tell me a little more about the Congo. It sounds very exciting. Did you find anything interesting?" She fingered her necklace unconsciously as she spoke.

((I've got that book, but I haven't finished reading it, I've only read the first few chapters. I've read Jurassic Park and the Lost World. What's awesome is Robert Muldoon (the park warden guy) didn't get eaten by the raptors, he killed one of 'em with some kind of rocket launcher, and blew the leg off one. ))
Drask resumed talking, "Yeah, I got some pictures of some of the rare species of insects there, as well as finding quite a few new kinds of 'em. My favorite was this huge spider that's like a tarantula. It's the first any one has found in the Congo. I learned a lot from the natives there. It's amazing how they've lived the same life for so long without change." He was pretty enthusiastic about his expeditions, and it showed in his speech.

Penny found his enthusiasm infectious. Part of this was because this topic was directly in like with the focus of the degree she had just earned but she thought it also might just have something to do with Drask himself. "Did you find any new species or medicinal plants?"

"Yeah. A few new species of bugs, a few new plants. Actually there's a pretty cool carnivorous plant I found in the Congo. Almost like a Venus Fly Trap, just a bit larger. I sent some kind of herbs to Yale for study. They might be something new." Drask turned off at the next exit, which was down town Seattle, toward his apartment. He still was uneasy about Penny staying at his place tonight.

His description made her think of 'Little Shop of Horrors' and she couldn't help but giggle and imitate the plant, "Feed me Seymour." Then she looked over and noticed that Drask looked uncomfortable. She bit her lip hoping it wasn't because of her and kept on the subject of the plants hopefully to take his mind off whatever was bothering him. "I wish I could have seen your samples. We were doing a pretty interesting experiment in one of my classes but now that I'm technically not a student anymore they won't let me back into the lab to see how it came out."

"Hmmm. I forgot to bring any sample back here with me. I meant to, but it would have been hard trying to get the stuff clear for transport to the states. If I waited for them I wouldn't have made it in time to say good-bye." Drask regretted this, but security was tough.

"Then I'm glad you left them." Penny said quietly after thinking a moment on what he had just said. She knew that she would never trade this time with him for any unique an unstudied plant. Then she looked up at him and smiled again, "It should be easier to get samples back from Alaska. Maybe you'll find something interesting for me there."

Drask slowly shook his head and murmured, "Yeah, me too." He kept his eyes fastened on the crowded road, which seemed pretty busy tonight. "There might be something worth finding up there. Who knows...." Drask wasn't sure why Jeff Meldrum wanted him to come to Alaska, or why he was getting paid to do so. Most of his expeditions were funded by universities, not many beasts asked him to a privately funded expedition.

Penny looked out the window for a few minutes, lost in her own thoughts. She started to hum softly and then louder and then she began to sing the words to the song. It was as if she had forgoten that anyone was listening or maybe she just felt comfortable enough with him not to care. ((Think of Me from Phantom of the Opera)) Think of me, think of me waking, silent and resigned. Imagine me, trying too hard to put you from my mind. Recall those days look back on all those times, think of the things we'll never do - there will never be a day, when I won't think of you . .
((sorry I got this song stuck in my head today and I just had to find a way to stick it in somewhere))

Drask's thoughts had traveled to a time that seemed very long ago, back when Penny first moved to Seattle, and the two of them, along with Vern, Wes, and Travis Wolfe, went to Mt. Saint Helens. It all seemed so distant. As Penny started singing, he stopped his mind from wondering and he silently listened to her. Drask couldn't figure out where that song came from, but he remembered it from somewhere, Penny's song was almost soothing to him. A slight smile touched his lips.
