((Heck with it. I'm gonna post.))
Kal Skirata was recently in from leading a group of scientists to search for some wierd space rock. He had just come home and was listening to the calls and was surprised to have one from Jeff Meldrum. Jeff only called when he needed a group led, and he always payed good money. Kal immediately called him "Jeff, this is Kal. What do you need me to do?" he asked. "I need you to take a ferret to where they found those two park rangers. He's going to find out if something really odd is happening." Kal thought a moment. "Wasn't that the rouge bear?" "Yes. I'm sending you because you are the best guide in Alaska." "Well then, its just a matter of price." "I can pay you thirty thousand dollars to lead this expedition." "Done. When is he getting here?" "Sometime in the next week. Meet him at the airport." "All right. I'll call you when I get back." Kal hung up and sat down. Thirty thousand for leading an expedition after a rogue bear. He could live for months on that.

Penny also remembered the trip, although it seemed like ages ago. It had been her first spring break in Seattle and she hadn't been able to afford the plane trip home. She had jumped at the chance to go to the mountain with the guys. Some of her friends, not to mention her mother, had been a little worried that Penny was the only female on the trip. For Penny it had been an educational trip. She wanted to see what kind of life came back to the volcano after it erupted. It was beautiful. Suddenly Penny realized that she had been singing aloud and she stopped. "Oh jeez I'm sorry." She blushed. She had even forgotten what song she had been singing only remembering that it had been her voice filling the silence.

"It's alright." Drask turned the mustang down 45th and 4th, toward his apartment, which it turns out is in down town Seattle, one of the nicer neighborhoods. Tall buildings rose on all sides of the road until they turned again, this time it opened up to a view of the Puget Sound, and right along the edge of it were several large apartment buildings. It was a pretty nice looking area, giving a view of the Sound, as well as the Space Needle, and Seattle. Drask parked his car in an empty space along side one of the buildings with green trim and with very few other parking spaces empty. It wasn't what Drask wouldn't have liked to call home, but that was it. "Well, we're here," He said with a start, his voice slightly weak, almost like he was afraid of something. But it wasn't the fact Penny was spending the night in his apartment, it was how blank it was here. And now that the sun had gone down, everything had a dreary tint to it, even the bright lights of Seattle, and Penny's face. Drask had no idea why, but it seemed very dark in the Emerald City.

Penny squinted slightly as she looked up at the building. She always hated what this time of day did to her vision. She supposed it was the blue tint that twilight gave to everything. She had learned in one of her classes that blue was the most difficult color of light to see. "It's nice." She said for lack of something better to say and out of politeness to her host. She looked up into the sky and noticed as always that the city lights made seeing any stars at all nearly impossible. "I suppose you'll be able to see a lot more stars in the middle of nowhere in Alaska," She remarked as she got out of the car still looking at the sky.

"Yeah, probably." Drask stepped out of his car and walked over to the trunk, he opened it and slung his pack over his shoulder, then lifted his suitcase, along with Penny's. Taking one more hard stare at the twilight lit city, he shut the trunk and led the way to the apartments. First up a flight of stairs all the way to floor number six. Drask set down the luggage, and dug a key out of his pocket, "Well, this is home," With that he opened the door and stepped inside. His apartment was perfectly clean and organized, the same way as his car was. There was a tv in one corner of the room, in front of it was a couch, then behind that was a very small kitchen, further over was a hallway leading to Drask's room. It was pretty much bare, save for a desk that was cluttered with papers, and above it on the wall were several pictures. The first was one of his extended 'family', which was of Vern, Wes, Uncle Travis, his mother, as well as his half-brothers, Virek and Vrelt, and him and Penny. Beside it were several others, each of them a picture of either Travis, Penny, or Vern. That was the only thing in the entire apartment Drask liked. The rest seemed dull. He breathed out a sigh, well, this was it.

Penny looked around at her methodically organized surroundings. She remembered that he hadn't been here in several months having just got back from his Congo trip and wondered if it would look the same if he had been here all the time. Then she noticed the pictures and walked over towards them. She recognized their mutual friends and figured out those that were family from the resemblance. Not that there was much of a resemblance between Drask and who she supposed her the brothers he had told her about once or twice. It one of them it was something about the eyes and in the other something about the smile. And then she noticed the pictures of herself. She was flattered that she was among the select few on this wall of fame and one of the pictures she immedately recognized as one she had given him. It was a head shot that she'd had taken for an audition she did for a play a couple of years ago. But the other was a candid shot that looked like in might have been taken on that trip to Mt. Saint Helens. She leaned forward to examine it further. She was smiling in the picture more than she usually did in staged photographs. She must have been laughing at something. "I don't remember this. When was it taken?"

A smile appeared on his face, "Oh, you don't remember that one? That was taken when we had he superbowl party over at Vern's house, and he was dressed up like a gangster, and we were all dieing laughing as soon as we walked through the door. I'm still surprised I managed to take that picture. Back in '05, when The Seattle Seahawks played against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Vern went overboard with that party, and his costume." Drask would never forget that day, Vern always managed to make everybeast laugh, one way or another.

She looked at the picture again and smiled then she turned back and looked at Drask, leaning slightly back against the desk. "You're a wonderful photographer. I don't think I've ever seen a better picture taken of myself."

"Well, I learned from the best." He gestured to a picture of his Uncle standing in front of the Puget Sound. Drask kept his gaze trained on the pictures for a moment longer, then he looked around the room, "Is there anything you need? I don't think I have much to eat around here. Unless you like stale stuff." He smiled a bit at this, unsure of how to continue with Penny around. This was a new thing for Drask, he was never really good with other beasts, and he was starting to have that classic trouble now.

Penny smiled at the hospitable ferret. "I think I got plenty to eat at the party." She stuck out her stomach and patted it to try to illustrate how full she was but this was largely unsuccessful due to the fact that it was rather impossible for the pretty ferretmaid ever to be considered fat. "I'll probably just curl up on the couch and I might turn the tv on low so I can zone out and unwind." She crossed the room to where he had laid down her bag and began to rummage through it. "Um I would like to use your bathroom: brush my teeth and stuff if you don't mind." She couldn't remember if he had told her where that was and she didn't want to go poking around on her own to find it.

Drask pointed to the hallway, "It's down there, at the end of the hallway." With that he turned away from Penny, and he walked over to the door, took in the luggage lying there, and closed the door. He set Penny's bag next to the couch, then laid his next to the small kitchen. Drask rummaged through one of the cabinets, trying to see if there was anything that you could eat, that wasn't stale. He found nothing to eat, he sighed, well, he had been gone for two months.

"Thank you," she called to him and went back to her bag she pulled out a smaller bag of toiletries and her pajamas and went back to the bathroom. She came back out shortly wearing plad flannel pants and a long modest teeshirt that pictured some cutesy cartoon character with a thought bubble that said something clever. Her footpaws were bare and whispered along the floor as she walked back to the living room. She did as she said and curled up on the couch with her footpaws under her to keep them warm. "Do you mind if I turn on the tv?" She asked him.

Drask nodded, "Uh, Yeah, go ahead." He turned back to the cabinet and rummaged through it some more, finding virtually everything he would have liked to eat, but they were stale or out of date. After a minute more of looking though that cabinet he closed it and picked up his suitcase, "Well, I'll see you in the morning. Night Penny."

She picked up the remote and began to flip through the chanels but it didn't escape her notice that he had been rummaging through the cabinets in the kitchen. She thought back and didn't remember him getting much to eat at the party. "Hey Drask," She called to him before he could escape away to his own room. "I've got some chips in my bag. I was going to save them for the plane but I'm sure they'll have some sort of nuts or pretzels or something for me to munch on. You're welcome to them." Then something on the tv caught her attention. It was the late news and they had mentioned something about Alaska and a bear attack. She turned up the volume watching intently as the story unfolded and then spoke without looking at him. "That's why you're going isn't it?"
((i hope that's okay I'm trying to find a reason for her to go on this trip and I think I might have it))

A serious expression crossed his face, "To be truthful; Yes, that's why I'm going." Drask didn't plan to elaborate on any of the story further, unless she asked some more questions. He was going to grab those chips that Penny spoke of, but know he really didn't feel like eating. Paying attention to what was said about the attack, Drask compared it to what Jeff told him. It seemed the news left a lot of the story out.
