((How do they transform in mid-flight?))
More shots rang out, but from another sniper. Loud, thunderous rounds, something high-calibur. Another zombie nearly had its arm blown off as the one behind it was hit full-on in the chest. Both tumbled to the ground, and were finished off with two more rounds, each to the head as they came back into view. The shooter reflected he was real jumpy today, that and the useless bi-pod... He focused his aim, and brought the stock of the gun closer into his shoulder. Another zombie went down, a shot blasting through the neck. One more.

Ringo's ears perked at the sound of gunshots nearby, and his nose wrinkled involutarily at the smell of zombies. He glanced at the others in the room to see if they'd noticed anything, but they didn't seem to have noticed. He glanced nervously at the door, wondering whether he should go help out or not.

Anna had heard the gunfire. She hated that sound. She gripped the side of the sink and squeezed her eyes shut. She was thinking of the extra work it would probably mean for she and Ashlyn but she was also thinking of the pointless loss of life. She took off her glasses and pinched the bridge of her nose. She thought she might be starting to get a migraine. She started getting them back in med school with all the stress of studying for exams. She realized now that the stress she had endured then was nothing to the constant worry she experienced here in the Zone.

"You alright, miss?" Bane asked, moving a few steps forth towards her and the wildcat. He gestured to the door, and the gunshots emnating from it. "G- er, the perimeter guard's just fendin' off some zombies." He tried to sound casual about it. Every now and then, the village would need to 'herd off' a few mutants or other unsavory creatures. Bane actually had a sort of pity for the zombies. The hell they must've been through to achieve the state they're in... And the only way to relieve them of their suffering was to kill them. That was all they could do...
Blam!
Another shot rang out.
"Eat it." The other sniper declared as the last zombie fell to the ground in a heap, a bullet lodged in its collarbone. "They gone?" The radio in the beast's ear asked. "Yeah." He responded, "Guess we'd better clean up the mess. And do we have a new guy here?" "If we do, I haven't heard of him.' "Well, when was the last time you saw Sabre rounds being used?" "...Only at the Standoff, I think. And that was two years ago." "I see. RP-1, out."

Anna shoved her glasses back on her face and spun around at the sound of his voice. The water was still running in the sink behind her and her paws were dripping wet. "I'm fine," she answered wiping her paws dry unthinkingly on her dirty apron. "Just . . . headache." She flinched at the sound of the final loud bang. She wondered if Ashlyn would need her when they brought in the wounded from the attack or if she could get away with getting off a little early today. She wasn't going to be much use to anybeast if this was truly a migraine and she was going on her, what was it, 11th hour of work with no sleep. These double shifts were killer. She hoped Jane would get over her morning sickness soon so they could go back to the regular schedule but then Jane would probably be trying to find a way to get home and who knew if anybeast would ever come to replace her.

((Its not really transforming, they expand and flatten out in flight.)) Sev stared through the sight. There were no more zombies to shoot. He walked slowly down the hill, drawing his .45 as he went, just in case.

Bane went over and turned off the faucet. Water was precious in the Zone. Especially in the summertime, which it actually was now. He then looked at Anna, seeing that she seems to have a bad reaction to gunshots... At her explanation he nodded in some form of understanding, and some sympathy, which was usually unheard of in the Zone. Before he opened his mouth to say something to the pretty weaselmaid, Ashlyn spoke up.
"Anna, if you're not feelin' good, you can take a break. I think I've got this shift, anyway..." She explained. The vixen also felt sympathetic for her new 'partner' in the medbay. Working a double shift was certainly a test of stamina as well as sanity, at times.
--------------------------------------------------------
One zombie was still left breathing, and when it saw a beast in close proximity, it made a final lunge for Sev, all caution thrown aside if it hasn't been previously.

Anna looked apologetically at Bane. She knew about the water conservation rules. The gunshots and the migraine had just made her forgetful. She kept her eyes on him as she answered the vixen, "Yeah, Ashlyn, I think I will. Thanks." She pulled her hat and apron off and tore her gaze away from the weasel to go and hang them up on a hook on the wall. Then she went to the door. She wanted to ask Bane to come with her but she couldn't find the words. She looked back at him as she grabbed the handle of the heavy door and began to pull it open. She hoped he understood she'd like him to follow.
Her summons wasn't intended to be sexual in nature but it was likely to be construed as such, coming from the pretty weaselmaid. She didn't really realize her power over the opposite sex. The truth was this particular male just reminded her of home: of Thursday evenings in the common room at school watching E.R., of all night study sessions at the campus library, of skipping classes to grab a latte at Starbucks with friends.
Instinct also told her that Bane would not hurt her, that he would protect her if he could, from well. . . whatever. . . fill in the blank. The Zone was filled with dangers, those that she knew of and others that she had never even imagined. Something in the way he had treated the rat and the way he looked at her when he asked her if she was alright let her know that she had nothing to fear from Bane.

Sev saw the zombie leaping at him and raised his gun. He fired four times in quick succesion, hitting the zombie in the head three times and missing once. He ran the rest of the way down the hill, his long legs propelling him rapidly until he stood in front of the other beast that he had spotted.

((Actually, folks, since this thread is a hybrid movie/RP, you can post some song lyrics or examples up. Appropriately, of course, in compliance with the forum rules and when appropriate in the story. Ex. No heavy metal music while a character is sleeping.))
Bane returned Anna's gaze, seeing what she meant, observing her body language. He actually took a step forward before he was stopped by Ashlyn. "Bane, can I talk with you for a minute?"
"Sure." The weasel replied, standing and facing the vixen, who was actually an inch or two shorter than him. "Okay," Ashlyn began, clearing her throat and looking up at him. "So you've come back again, huh? It's certainly been a while... Here." She led him over to the plastic chairs, sitting down in one and assuming that all-too-familiar Ashlyn-is-talking posture, one leg crossed over the ther, and her paws together with her claws intertwined. First she seemed to examine those paws, then move to Bane as he was seated, leaning forth as he does.
"...You know, this is your fourth time coming here..." "Respectfully speaking, I don't need the lecture again." Ashlyn sighed. "Bane, this isn't about coming back. I'm glad you're here, actually."
"Oh?" Bane shifted in his seat.
"Yes. Well..." She paused here, looking down at her paws again. "The thing is, the beasts around here need a person like you. I can't tell you how many cases I get out here now. Drunks, rape victims, drug addicts, the whole lot. The Zone's expanding too, falling apart. Pretty soon the government's gonna do something about it. So, uh, frankly, they need a beast to look up to. A leader."
"And you think that beast is me?"
"After the Standoff, I think it's safe to say that."
"You sure?" Bane asked, looking directly at the vixen now. He certainly didn't think he would fit into the role Ashlyn was apparently trying to thrust him into. "Entirely. You'd be surprised at how many people actually look to you now. If you're gone, things happen."
Ashlyn sighed, sensing Bane's fidgeting. Apparently he wanted to get his belongings before the military beasts tried to confiscate it from the truck. "Just something to think about is all." She cut the lecture short. There were some things to talk about, though, but they'd have to wait. Bane merely nodded and got up, seeing his chance. "I see... Uh, I have t' go, though." He said, understanding mostly what Ashlyn meant for him to do. He then went for the door, but looked back and said, "Thanks." "No problem." Ashlyn replied from her seat, waving goodbye to him. Then the heavy metal door slammed shut.
Bane worked his way over to the garage, retrieving his duffel bag and backpack, then went back to the bunker to find this Anna character...
--------------------------------------------------
The other beast actuall resembled some sort of towering plant-beast, geared up in a ghille suit. But upon close inspection, it would reveal that he was some sort of canid creature. He lowered his L96 rifle to show he was friendly. Looking Sev up and down, he said, "So you're the new guy?"

Anna hurried off to the flat she shared with Jane, ready to get out of her uniform and into some more comfortable clothes. She didn't meet any creature at all on the way there. Jane was sleeping in one of the closet sized bedrooms so Anna slipped quietly into the other one. She took off her nurse's get up and put on a pair of jeans and an overlarge Beatles t-shirt. She laid down on the bed for a few minutes and realized that her headache seemed to be receding somewhat. Then she remembered that she had sort of asked Bane to follow her and he would have no idea where she had gone. She got back up out of bed and grabbed her pistol off the bedside table. She wouldn't leave the apartment without it. She checked to make sure it was loaded. Of course it was, she hadn't had to use it yet. Then she shoved it into the back of her waistband and covered it over with the t-shirt. She called to her ferretmaid roommate before she left, "I'm going out for a bit Jane. I'll be back in a while." Jane grunted an answer. Anna was making sure the door was locked tight when she heard the footsteps coming up behind her. She smelled him before she turned, the smell of alcohol and ferret. As she made to face him she pulled out her weapon amateurishly, with shaking paws. "You get on and leave me alone, ferret!" She had thought he might be before but now she was fairly certain that he was the beast who had raped her friend. And then he spoke and left her with no doubt. "I wanted you, y'know," he stepped towards her and swatted the gun to the side. "You're the pretty one." He was obviously drunk and Anna was scared of what she already knew he was capable of. "All matter of species aside," he continued, pushing her up against the door she had just locked. "Your friend was fun for a laugh but I bet you can still give me what I want, weaselmaid." He laughed in her face and she dare not open her mouth to answer him for fear of breathing in his putrid breath. She still had the gun in her hand but she was too petrified to try to raise it and do anything with it. "Weasels are pretty closely related to ferrets aren't they, love?" He asked, his paws on her now. "You should know, you're the big medical student, aren't you?" "I'm not your, love!" Anna spat out but her voice was shaking. The ferret laughed, pressing her body closer to the door with his own. A sob escaped her and she prayed for somebeast to come to her rescue.

"Hey, Bosco..." A voice, low and growling, sounded from behind the ferret. The beast knew that wasn't the ferret's name, but calling someone Bosco implied that they were useless drunkards with nothing but muscle to get their way in life. A claw tapped on the ferret's shoulder.

"What?! Can't you see the lady and I are busy here?!" The ferret was annoyed not only by the name he had been called but also by the interruption. He turned to look over his shoulder at the beast who had spoken.
Anna took the moment of distraction to ease away and pull her pistol up again. She couldn't see who the speaker was since he was behind the ferret, but she was out of her mind with gratitude to him. She was still to afraid to pull the trigger but at least she looked like she was more sure of herself.

The beast spun with the ferret, still facing his back and coming in between the ferret and Anna. Surprise surprise, it was Bane. Both pistols were holstered, though, and his AK was nowhere in sight. He had been settling back into his own (sort of) apartment room, and had come across the ferret and Anna in the hallway as he left. He worked quickly, grabbing the ferret's paw and bringing it behind the beast's back, in the process shoving him against the opposite wall rather forcefully. "Garbage like you should be killed by rights." He growled. Ashlyn was right. Everything was falling apart... "Now I'm gonna count to three, you know how t' do that?" He did not await an answer, "And when I reach it, I want you out of this bunker. Otherwise I might change my mind."
