Your character's full name: Alouette (Ally) Martha Braebuck
Age: Young Adult (19 years)
Species: Hare
Gender: Female
Appearance: Ally is thin and willowy. Her body is covered with short soft auburn fur and her ears tend to lop. Her clothing is unique but stylish because she designs it herself usually by altering patterns from older garments. She usually has her nose stuck in a book or scroll. She would be considered pretty if not for the thick spectacles perched on her little pink nose. Allouette is extremely nearsighted.
Belongings: Spectacles are Ally's most important possession because she would be lost without them. She has a wardrobe full of dresses and tunics that she made herself. She has a large collection of books as well as paper, quill pens and ink. She also has a much loved Harolina which she plays beautifully. The tools of her trade are needles and thread and fabric. The only thing she possesses that could possibly be considered a weapon is a pair of sewing scissors, but she would only use them as such if she or one of her loved ones was in danger. Her mother's longbow and quiver was left to she and her brother when the patrol came back after the battle in which she supposedly died. But for the moment the bow and quiver are displayed on the Wall of Remembrance in the Badger Lord's forge room.
Job or Position: Alouette is the resident seamstress of the mountain fortress of Salamandastron. However she is fascinated with history and would love to be the Recorder/Historian. She is also a musician and has a beautiful voice. She collects songs like treasure. Members of the long patrol actually bring them home to her when they return from their journeys. She's convinced that the history of each group of creatures is contained in its songs. Ally also has a particular talent for forging other beasts handwriting, but she doesn't use it unless she has to.
Personality: Ally is shy and rather dreamy but she's a faithful friend. She's not generally a trouble maker and she does her best to get her friends out of any trouble they find themselves in. She throws her self into her projects so much that she becomes obsessed with them even to the point of forgetting to brush her fur for days on end while she designs a new coat for a Major or hashes out the accompaniment to a new song on her harolina. She's also a homebody. She never wants to leave the mountain where she was born. Although she is a bit curious about the world outside (especially Redwall Abbey) she thinks it's a bit too big and scary out there for her liking. Alouette also believes, as a battle squeamish/picky eater, she may be a bit of a disappointment to the memory of her parents who were a perilous fighter and a renowned cook.
Ally is quite bitter at her mother for leaving to go on patrol and sees this as the reason that her father also left and got himself killed.
She worries non-stop for her younger brother, the fearless stomach-on-legs, Philbert (age 16) who has just joined the Long Patrol.
Possibly the most quirky thing about Ally's personality is her friendship with the bisexual hare Choco, which was born of their shared love of fashion. She is throughly disgustedly by his lifestyle choice but has agreed to disagree with him as long has he keeps his much too elegant paws off of her brother and a certain strolling player named Florian.
History and Background Information: Alouette's mother was the one and only Captain Rabitha Verbane “Vermin Bane” Braebuck, long bow sharpshooter and developer of a mechanized, trigger action crossbow for short range. She taught Ally to shoot and Ally was a natural but after accidentally killing a lark one day while they were out shooting together Rabitha knew that Ally was not destined for a life in the Patrol.
Ally's father was Linden “Cap'n Breaky” Braebuck who's recipes are still favorites in the Salamandastron kitchens and on the field.
They were both believed to be killed on the same day, in separate battles, 100s of miles apart. In a rather ironic turn of events Rabitha was poisoned and Linden was shot with an arrow between the eyes. In actuality Rabitha was not killed but woke up after a two season coma in the Redwall infirmary and was sent out on some sort of quest. Ally has yet to find out that the reason her mother left in the first place was because Ally was going to be drafted into the patrol on her 16th birthday whether she liked it or not. Rabitha knew that her daughter never wanted to be a fighter so she went in Ally's place.
Ally and her brother Phil are directly descended from Hortwill Longblade Braebuck. Ally's sining voice is said to come from Horty's sister Martha.
Any other details: The love of Ally's life is Florian Augustus Fitzspeedwell DeYarow. He is an all around fantastic performer: thespian, singer, juggler, etc., the co-founder of a band of traveling players, and a truly handsome hare. He of course is bound to travel and Ally to her mountain so they very seldom see each other. She hopes that his love for her will some day lead him to settle down and leave his wandering ways behind him.
