"And you also have a faulty memory. You told him exactly who you were." said Kal, still following Simon. "And I have absolutely no idea what you mean by 'treasure'. I'm here to protect my stretch of the woods. As far as I remember, there is no treasure around here. And do you have to talk so flamin' much?"

Simon crept silently up to the small camp of vermin. They were gathering their weapons and getting ready for battle. Simon looked back in the direction of the two noisy squirrels. He shook his head and tried to come up with a plan that he could execute in order to get the heirloom back for the moles.
He grasped his staff tightly. Some of the vermin had slings and bows. This would not be easy. Usually he had the element of surprise on his side. Maybe he could still utilize stealth... but maybe not.

Everything that the elder squirrell said , went in one ear and out the other. Not to say she didn't catalogue it in her mind--she ignored the questions for the most aprt, with the exception of the last one. Her jaw dropped, and she blushed in indignation. Placing one paw over her chest she swooned: "How dare you use that language on a impressionable young maiden! " Then she answered the question: "Well Talking is a lot of fun, and besides I don't know your name yet--so if you helped the conversation along then we could get somewhere." Thrusting her nose up in the air she raced ahead of the other squirell hopefully leaving him flabbergasted and guilty.
Then she smelled the vermin, pausing on the branch, she let a smirk cross her face. Then it turned into her normal airheaded smile. Jumping from the branch she landed in aa bush at the edge of camp. "OWCH MEAN OL TREE HURT ME! HOW DARE YOU HIT A LADY'S RUMP!? YOU BRUTE!" She squealed, undoing her weapons clasp from about her neck. As she did that she curled her flexible tail around some stones. Then she made a show of shaking the bushes, hopefully the distraction would move some of them away from the campground, so SImon could sneak in easier. After all he could have rode in on a elephant, and abov "CInna's" screaming not a vermin would have noticed.

Simon smiled. It appeared that Cinna was more than meets the eye. When all the vermin began running toward her, the archers stood back and notched arrows to their bows. Like a snake striking prey, Simon sprang forward and sent several stones from his sling sailing towards the archers. Two of them fell senseless, and the third was taken in the chest by Simon's staff. Simon looked about swiftly and saw what he was looking for. It was a medallion matching the mole's description. He snatched it and ran as fast as he could into the brush.
Something was amiss... Cinna! In his haste, Simon forgot about the squirrel maid! He turned around to see two of the vermin thieves closing in. He whirled his staff expertly around his body and said, "Come to me vermin. Meet the dark mists!"

Kal grunted. "Women." he muttered, chasing Cinna. "Always getting themselves into trouble." Kal halted on a branch and unslung his longbow. Quickly sighting down a shaft, he sent it ripping through the head of a vermin about to strike Cinna. Two more were down before they realized what was going on. Kal placed his bow back in the sheath and dropped down in front of Cinna, knife and chain whirling with blinding speed.

CInna had transferred the shell from her thin neck, to her left paw. As the first vermin leaped into the bush, she seemed to stumble backward. The rather large weasel was brought down by his own wight, and standing up, she swung about at a noise oonly to have the sharpened sea ornament slice about the neck of her nxt pursuer, her mouth formedi nto a "O" of shock and she muttered: "Oh my..oh dear..I think I hurt him.." Then Kal was in the bushes, with a feminine shriek the female fell backward, taking enough time to drop the shell back on her neck-every part the damsel in distress.
Of course the young squirrel didnt know that the hole she had made in the bush, offered a perfect view to her companions. Maybe he would fall for the clumsy story--it seemed the vermin had. Normally she would have been smart enough to move away from the sunlight offering hole--but she was rather busy, fighting for her life and all that.
Then a ferret burst from the bushes behind her, with a shriek she sent her claws scratching at his leg, just happening to bring him down with a crack to the ankles.

Simon saw what he was looking for: It was a... hammer? Was that the family heirloom?! Certainly not! But... there wasn't anything else around. He jumped high and kicked the closest vermin in the face and brought his staff down mightily on the other's head. They both fell down, knocked-out.
Simon sprinted as fast as he possibly could straight towards the... hammer. He grabbed it while keeping his speed and jumped into the brush, waiting to see how many vermin he would have to deal with. He noticed that the hammer was unusually heavy for a hammer. He looked down at it and saw that the head was silver and the handle was finely crafted, with designs carved in the beautiful wood. He was surprised. This could be considered treasure. Just then, three vermin came at him with their weapons.

Kal reached down and picked the fallen ferret up. Taking his knife, he slashed it across the ferret's tendon. The ferret howled in pain. Kal cast him aside, where he lay, out of commission. Kal then picked up the weasel that she Cinna had slashed, then threw him aside. Looking around, he saw Simon being rushed. he took out his spiked chai and flung it right at the vermin on the right. It wrapped around his head and crushed it.

Simon saw that the vermin wanted to kill him. He reacted as fast as he could. Simon punched the vermin directly in front of him. His fist crushed the vermin's nose and caused blood to splatter up into the air. He then jabbed the last vermin with his staff in the chest, winding him. He then put a devastating uppercut in his chin, knocking him out. Simon scanned the brush for any remaining threats, and when he saw that there was none, he heaved a heavy sigh of relief. Simon walked up to where he thought Cinna and Kal where. he called into the brush, "Kal?! Cinna?! Are you alright?!"

Kal walked through the foliage. He bent down and unwrapped the chain from the rat's head. "Its going to take a while to clean all this up. We have a lot of bodies on our hands, as well as a couple live 'uns." he said, gesturing to where the ferret still lay, howling in pain.

"Kal... Might we leave this one alone? I don't think he wants to harm us anymore. If we must do away with him, then I want no part in it." Simon was always sort of weak when it came to life or death of his enemies. He looked over to Cinna to see if she was alright. "Cinna, are you okay?"

"I never said we had to kill him. THat's why I only cut his tendons to begin with. That way he can't follow us and won't bother us anymore." said Kal. "But he is getting annoying." Kal reversed his knife so that he was holding the tip and brought it down on the ferret's skull, knocking him clean out. "Finally, some peace and quiet."

There was soem screaming, and blood. The battle had turned from organized to a ridicoulous bloo bath in seonds. After the first hit the squirrel maid hadn't even gotten a good stab in! The boys were sure selfish.
Let them worry. The first time they ahd asked about her well being she had stayed silent, and didn't answer. Only afyer being asked twice did she say: "I'm just fine--man that was hard hitting, but so funny! You got the treasure eh? Moles are waiting for it! So away we go!" Without a word the blood covered squirrel sprinted down the path the way theu had came from. The shell had been dropped under her shirt once again--no need to give any unneeded clues.
"You two are brutes--did you know covriing a lady in blood is rude!? Well it is. Really--and those poor vermin deserved a claw cut off, bnot to have their skulls cracked like eggs!" Some men! Her tail waved back and forth behidn her--and not once did she take her eyes off the path straight ahead. For all she knew the pair were nowhere near, and she was talking to herself.
Ah well.

Kal bounced through the trees above her. "Brutes eh? Next time I'll let them run you through. Or maybe shoot you from far off. Vermin are like that y'know. If you're lucky, them might just cut your head clean off. There's no pain in that. Better than a messy gut wound." he said offhandedly, keeping pace quite easily.

Simon was left behind, but he knew the way back. He started a healthy run back to the moles' dwelling in order to give them back their "treasure." he heard the squirrels far ahead bickering. "Huh, they could do good by learning a little stealth..." he muttered aloud. Simon was getting tired of these small, insignificant treasure runs. He wanted to go on a much grander and epic treasure hunt. Maybe one would spring up sometime...
