"You still went with crushed ribs? You're one tough cookie." Jasyn stroked his cheek with a claw. "Well, I think I'll tell you my first mission with Garret. It was my last mission in Japan, actually." The fox gave a nod with his head to his employer. "He had gone to Kyoto to visit with a good friend of his; I got pulled in after the ensuing chaos. There had been some reports of an Unidentified Aircraft hanging over Nagasaki, and I was curious about it. I had assumed it was some hush-up project of a Military arm, probably U.S. They seem to like that." He started, and looked at Leon. "No offense or anything. "Anyway, I had tracked it down to Kyoto itself, when I had a call from my cell-" And of course, there was a tone that sounded suspiciously like a digitized Funeral Dirge. Smiling sheepishly, Jasyn pulled a phone out of his coat. He flipped it open, and began listening in. "Yeah. No information yet, my employer's training locals. Yes I'll make sure he wires the money. Yes I'll make sure he does it on time, and for goodness sakes YES, I'll get you a souvenir. Did I what? Oh, yeah. Really? Bring it here, of course. I'm going to need it soon enough, I'll imagine. Yes, now stop worrying. I'll see you soon enough. Right, good night darling." He closed the phone and put it back. "Sorry. Mrs. Kaiden acts as my Tech. Support. And she worries about me, sometimes. Where was I?" the fox started rolling up his left sleeve, and indicated Garret again. "See these nifty, matching burn scars we got? That was the result of the mission. His friend had an idea of the disturbances, and decided that he friend needed a little help from yours truly. No sooner had we met, then the middle of the city practically exploded; and the outskirts suffered a total blackout. We rushed to the scene to find burning wreckage, collapsed Japanese Police, and a single creature. We looked at him, he looked at us, and then rushed at us with an impossible speed. He reached out for both of our faces, but managed to only get our arms. He must've been made of acid or something, because we had half our skin burned off in the single second he held us. Garret had leaped to a nearby building, and he pulled out a rifle; while I picked up some handguns laying nearby. We both shot at it, but the bullets seemed to have no effect. I joined Garret up top; and he decided that if we couldn't shoot it; we should squish it instead. So he rigged an empty, abandoned house, and I lured the thing inside. When I emerged, Garret set the detonation, and the structure imploded on the thing." Jasyn shrugged and replaced his sleeve. "And that was one of the shortest missions I've had to date. And my paycheck got shorted out. Again due to 'collateral damage.' I oughta charge them for charging me or something..." Jasyn muttered under his breath at the indignation of being stripped of cash, and then caught himself. "Sorry. I got carried away. So, tell me about your mission in Russia. I want to see if the grapevine is as accurate as it should be." (sorry for any faults in this. But I'm thinking we should wrap this up. One more story, and I think we need to get back on track.)

Leon smiled.
"Garret told me about that one...
Anyhow, Russia. Russia was my most normal M.I.N.S. mission. Essentially, we got wind of a prototype nuclear weapon. Supposed to be a walker-vehicle.
Picture the popular game METAL GEAR SOLID, if you will. And the METAL GEAR REX bipedal nuclear launch capable universal combat platform. The Russians literally made one. Exactly like in the game.
But there were three.
We found the first and killed the pilot, preventing a launch against the US. Afterward, we learned of the existence of two more. If you played that game, you'd know the way they're designed makes them virtually indestructible to conventional weaponry. But they themselves don't use conventionals.
So, I decided I was going to pilot it and take down the other two. The first was pretty easy. I saw him before he saw me and blew the cockpit with a shot of the rail gun.
The second took out my gun with a shot from his. I had to tackle the other mech with mine, so as to destroy the gun.
So the end result was two 70 foot tall ultra-heavily armed and armored vehicles strafing back and forth, lobbing missiles and massive amounts of rounds at one another.
Ultimately, I got that thing going at it's top speed of about 100 miles per hour, and ran headlong into his. It was knocked to the ground, and I melted through the cockpit with the under-mounted free-ion laser.
It exploded, the thousands of rounds and dozens of missiles still left inside. The blast was enough to crack my cockpit open, allowing the flames inside.
This is the reason for which my back has a considerable burn scar over most of it's surface.
And that's all I've got for the good stories, I don't know about you.
And, no offense, but I did not expect you to be married."
(I agree. But I don't think it can be questioned that we are very good at pulling good stories out of no-where.)
---
Garret smiled. "Come on, then. Try to hit me."
He stood in the center of a circle drawn on the floor. Around him were several beasts beating on one another. They were making light contact, not putting full force behind their blows.
Garret's opponent, the one who had so far proved best (A burly hedgehog named Sylvester), took a swing, and found himself swung overhead, landing on his back with an odd scratchy noise, due to his spines.
"You're a good teacher."
"Look at me. I've got more scars than someone who's paid to cut themselves. It comes from experience. I got most of these in close combat, because I made mistakes.... And what is the name of that squirrel whose been staring at me for two hours?"
"That's Hannah. She has a thing for..."
"Vermin. Well, it's quite disturbing. Anyhow, I think we can wrap it up, here. I have to get back upstairs. If you'd like to wait until everyone's finished and close up shop, it'd be appreciated."
"Yeah, no problem."
---
"... And what, exactly, is she bringing you? A baterang?" Leon added, with a smile.

"Oh ha-ha. I'm no Batmunk, thank you. It's a tool of mine that needed some...adjustments. And yes, long nose, I'm married. Happily. For two years, so shush up." Jasyn stuck his tongue out at Leon. Juvenile? Yes. Satisfying? Also yes. The fox decided to give the other fox a withering look; that was broken completely by his grin. "Yes I married, so what of it? She's wonderful actually. Watches my back and does the laundry at the same time. Her only fault is that she keeps trying to get me to retire. I keep telling her I'm to young, she tells me I'm an Idiot." the merc laughed. "That's what I get for marrying her. Brains AND beauty. Though if I told her that, she'd toss me over the wall." The komodo dragon balefully surveyed Jasyn. "Ssssssooo. It isssss you that hasssss been messssing with my operattttttttion, isss it? Well misssssster fox. I'll have to get rid of you." He pulled out a giant sledge hammer, and began taking menacing steps toward the merc. Smiling defiantly, Jasyn tapped the unsharpened bit of his sword on his shoulder. "Time to take out the trash, scaley. Garbage men are coming in tomorrow." A single lunge, and the dragon found 3 inches of steel protruding through his sternum. Inexplicably, he began laughing. "Damn. Evil mastermind cackling. That's not good." "Indeed it isssss not. Your sssssstabing me hassss done me good. Your pall, the sssssea otter will be sssseing his lasssst dawn in jussst two momentssss. Ahhhhhh." Dieing with a smile; creepy unto the end. Jasyn tsked and looked over to the hallway, which was crawling with serpentine forms. "DAMMIT!"

Garret stepped into the main hall, and sat down at the end of the table, and looked at the two.
Leon noticed Garret, and looked over. "You, my friend, are a piece of cold cut steel. Look at you."
"I know. The ladies love it." He replied, grinning. He stood, and walked over, standing beside Jasyn. "So, he didn't know you were married? I'm surprised. You must do a good job of keeping her out of your records, because Leon knows practically everything... But your wife is a sweetheart. One of the nicest creatures I've ever met."

Jasyn gave a snort of laughter and tossed his coat in Garret's face. "Put a shirt on buddy. We know that you have underdeveloped muscles. I promise, we'll find the help you need shortly." Jasyn shook his head. "And yes, I do keep her out of the records. Two reasons, mostly. I've made enemies, and she's made enemies. Most of the time, they're not mutually exclusive. If one ever found out our marital status, World War 3 would be brought on our heads before you could say 'oh crap.' Second reason is so characters such as this visually offensive fox over here," Jasyn nudged his head towards Leon, to make sure they knew which fox he was referring to, "Doesn't stick his overlarge snout where it's gonna get bitten off. Yes my wife's a sweet person, just stay out of her business. Otherwise part of your anatomy will be removed and shoved down your throat. She particularly prefers right arms." A quick glance to Leon, and then back to his boss. "You'll need to isolate a room in the abby and fill it with some high-end tech. She wants it that way when she comes down."

Garret nodded.
"Macintosh or Microsoft?" He asked, with a grin. "I kid. Macintosh would be a considerable waste of time. I have a portable WS in the Heli. I'll get it set up in one room or another."
He threw the coat back.
"Besides, World War 3 may already be on our heads. Now, I'm gonna go put a shirt on, and then set that up. You," He pointed to Leon "Should go fetch Silas and Skyra, because I need to talk to them about how the firearms training is going."
Leon gave a nod. "I'll get them. You want them in your room, or in here?"
"... My chambers will do. I'll be up there, anyway, since there's an empty room down the corridor, where I can set up The Lady Kaiden's workstation." He replied, before giving a nod to both, and running to the cellar to grab his shirt and coat, which he threw on, before he could be seen jog past the door into Great Hall, heading outside.

Jasyn caught the coat with one hand, and then put it on as he stood. As his employer walked out, he called after him. "Sure, leave me with no work again. When I get called out for a destroyed room, I'll bill it to you, allright?" Shaking his head, Jasyn left the Great Hall, to the sunshine outside. He shaded his eyes with a paw as he surveyed the place, and then he walked over to the main gates. After obtaining permission to leave, he walked out of the halls and down the road. Alone in his thoughts, he reached the second gate, and then the forest. Looking back at the Abbey walls, he huffed. "Time to practice..." With that, he stepped further into the trees, invisible from the building.

Garret passed Leon, dragging behind him a very large hard case. He nodded to the US soldier, who glanced at the case and raised an eyebrow.
"How many computers do you have in there?"
"Six server towers, an ergonomic keyboard, a 26 inch screen, and a universal service signal router that can download multiple gigs worth of info in seconds. I could run a company out of this thing."
Leon whistled, watching him head into the abbey. He had to wonder where he got all that money. Shrugging it off, he headed out to the orchard, to collect Silas and Skyra.
---
Garret, meanwhile, headed upstairs, and down the hall from his room, entering a nice...
Extraordinarily dirty...
Room.
Setting down the case, he left the room, to try and find some cleaning implements.

Jasyn slipped his coat off and hung it on a nearby branch. Then he took off the crimson shirt and put it next to his coat. He stepped a few feet away from the branch, and began some preliminary stretches. Moving seamlessly, he went from a leg stretch to the primary forms of his sword-fighting. And then the secondary, and then tertiary. Each getting quicker and harder then the one before. Moving as a blur now, he swooped and picked a fallen branch, and began his practice in earnest, letting out loud thwacks as the branch hit trunks. You almost couldn't tell one strike from the next, they were so close. Sweat started beading, but still he practiced. _________
"And that will be a direct trip to where?" "Redwall Abbey." "Okay."click click click. Pause. "I'm sorry Mrs. Kaiden. I have here that Redwall is under an alert. All tourists are advised to take their vacation somewhere else. Family members and residents are advised to call a Toll-Free number that will patch in to the occupying friendlies. It says here that no entrances will be made until the all clear has been made." "That's fine. I still need a trip down there." "Listen miss-" "I mean it. I'll take it to your supervisor if I must. I NEED to get to that Abbey." "One moment, please." Tacky Elevator music. Click. "Hello." "Excuse me. Are you in charge?" "Yes I am. What seems to be the problem?" "I need someone to pick me up and drive me to Redwall yesterday. The woman I was patched in with told me that was impossible." "I'm afraid it is miss. Any of your family live there?" "As a matter of fact, yes." "Then you'll need to call the Toll-free number to reunite with them. All residents of the Abbey have been airlifted to a secure location outside of the immediate area." "Yes, but my Husband is there NOW. I need to join him NOW. You see where I'm getting at?" "Not really..." "Look. Either I get someone down here, or I'll see your corporation in court. I need to do my job, and you're not helping me." "You said your name was Kaiden?" "Yes it is. And before you ask, yes I am in Kaicorp." "One of our drivers has been sent out to your location miss. You'll be there in two days." "Thank you."Click.

Leon found Silas standing in the corner of the orchard, watching Skyra teaching the last of the volunteers on how to use a pistol. Leon snuck up beside him, and nudged his shoulder.
"Enjoying the view?"
"I'm married."
"That means you can't do anything. Your eyes can still wander."
"No, really, I'm not. If for no other reason than Garret would bust my spine over his knee."
"Good point... Well. When she's done, he wants you two up in his room, to discuss the bake sale."
"Bake sa-? Oh, you're an arse."
"I know. But, seriously, he wants you two up there. Not sure the exacts, but it has something to do with the training."
"Alright. I'll be there when she's done."
---
Garret wiped the dust from his brow, and began patting himself down. He waited for the airbourne dust to settle, and then quickly set up the computers. Checking that everything was in place, he hit the power strip, and turned on all the components of the setup.
He did a final check, then left, closed the door, and headed to his chambers.

Tamar rolled over in the big bed. She'd been trying to have a bit of a lie-in. Silas had said she could:
"No you go ahead and sleep a little longer. Most of the regular Abbey dwellers are safely away so there's no beast for you to set up a fuss over and you've been looking a little tired lately."
"I'm not tired," she sat up, her tone defensive, afraid that he would figure out her secret. It was a mistake. The sudden movement made her dizzy.
The squirrel laughed. "I don't doubt your enthusiasm but why don't you go ahead and take the morning off. We're going to have plenty to do soon if Garret's intelligence is correct and he's very seldom wrong."
Tamar allowed her husband to ease her back down onto the pillows and she thoroughly enjoyed the kiss he gave her to convince her to stay there. When he finally broke the kiss he looked as if he'd much rather just stay right there with her but with a sigh he stood and walked to the door. "I'm sure Garret will have me racing around all morning with the preparations but we'll have lunch together later, alright?"
She really had tried to follow his advice and rest for a little longer but what creature could sleep with the racket of weapons practice going on down in the grounds. Then something completely different had her racing from the bed to the little bathroom joining their living and sleeping chamber. Oh how she had hoped that she would be immune to this particular part of her condition. Tamar guessed there was no such luck. She would just have to continue to hide it as best she could.
Well there was no use trying to go back to bed now. Tamar cleaned her self up and dressed and made it down to the makeshift shooting range just in time to hear the tail end of Leon's exchange with her husband. "If you think Garret would bust your spine, you have no idea what your wife will do when she finds out."
~~~
Katherine sat on the abbey steps watching the practice going on in the orchard but keeping well back. Even from this distance she winced every time she heard one of the weapons being discharged. What was she even doing here? She had come across an entire ocean to try to get away from soldiers shooting at her and now look at the mess she was involved in. The badgermaid's paw once again went to the cord around her neck.
As she watched she thought she recognized the beast Silas and Tamar were speaking with to be the one Garret had called Leon. She had wanted to speak to him. Maybe now was the time while he wasn't busy.
Jasyn was now perched on a rock, his fatigue covered legs crossed underneath him. He was meditating after his practice, and so he had his eyes closed, and was breathing deeply. The forest was really quiet around him, and he flicked a small smile as he compared it to his normal soundtrack of the day. Quietly he hummed to himself, alone in the woods.
_______
"Hello?" "Yes, hello Trintan. Is my husband's weapon ready?" "Mrs. Kaiden, how nice to talk to you, my dear. Let me check." Rustling noises. "Ah yes, here it is. I just finished it, you know. The final touches were quite spectacular, if I do say so myself." "Good. I'll be by to pick it up." "You'll pick it up yourself? I thought Mr. Kaiden was having it shipped out to him." "He was. As I'll be seeing him in two days, I thought I'd deliver it myself." "As you wish, darling. I also have your little toy spruced up to, so It'll work out." "You finished it already?" "Of course. I'm nothing if not proficient and quick in my work. It's why you two like me so much." "...Yes, that's true." "By the way, when are we going out to dinner again? I miss your company." "No idea. You'll have to take it up with my husband." "I can't reach him, darling. His phone must be off or something." "You know him. He hates interruptions in his work. We'll get together after this mess clears up." "I do hope so. Well, Ciao darlin. Give my best to your significant other." "Thank you Trintan." Click.
Silas looked at Tamar.
"Well, that's another reason as to why I wasn't doing what this cheeky creature was implying. You don't look like you got any rest. I really should look into getting a new matress." He said, the last part more to himself, than anything, and furrowed his brow.
Leon, meanwhile, walked away, and leaned in the doorway. He checked the Glock 30 in his hip holster, then the twin M93 Rafficas in his shoulder holsters. He liked being prepared.
---
Garret pulled his phone out of his pocket, and flipped it open.
"Hello?"
"Hello, Garret. It's Sergei. I have dose items you asked for." Came the reply, with a thick russian accent.
"Good. When will you be delivering them?"
"In ten minutes. I vas in the area, and figured I should come by. I shall drop you little care package. I even bought some of dose pizza bagel things. You have me addicted, naow."
Garret grinned. "They're that good... Alright. I'll be outside. Don't hit me with it, this time."
"You must get out of da way, not my fault. Goodbye."
Garret hung up the phone, and then headed outside, and waited at the main doors. That way, he'd catch Skyra, and Silas, on their way in.
It had been a day. Nothing, still. Everyone was ready. The 'Experts', as they were, were all waiting for something to happen. The remaining abbey dwellers were all going about their business. Garret had had a couple more mercs brought in.
But not a shot had been fired.
Garret sat beside Silas on a musty couch in the gatehouse.
"I know it'll happen... But I don't know when. And we have to keep everyone prepared... But the longer this drags on, the longer the other Redwallers don't have a proper home. Sure, I'm funneling money into a hotel, but that's not living. Not like the lives they had."
Silas shrugged. "I know. I have a question."
"Yeah?"
"Has Tamarr.... Said anything to you? She's been just a touch not her self. I still love her more than anything. She's just... Acting a touch different."
"Maybe she's nervous?"
"Yeah... Maybe. I know I am."
"I'm not."
"Why?"
"I'm not in the least afraid to die. And I've seen plenty of things in my time."
"What about Skyra?"
"She'd be better off with someone else. End-o-story."
"But-"
Before he could continue, a shot was fired.
Jasyn had been in the Great Hall, doing some last minute maintenance on his weapons. He didn't really expect any action that day, nor the next; but he was prepared. You didn't get to be as successful as he was if you just left everything to chance. He had, of course, forsaken his Trench-coat, and it was folded on the bench beside him as he cleaned his Desert Eagles. It was just as he was finishing, when the sharp crack of a bullet caught his ears, and he looked up quickly.
"Damn! Already?" He holstered his guns and pulled the coat over his shoulders before running out of the doors, headed for the walls. Taking the steps two at a time, he ascended quickly. Once he reached the top he tried to determine where the shot had come from, which wasn't hard. Some of the others had been patrolling the walls, and some of them were gathered at a certain point. Unholstering one of his guns, the mercenary went over to look. He was getting payed to defend the abbey and help out Garret, so by the Dark Forest he would do his job, and he would do it properly.
