Appearance:
Age: 22 Years
Species: Ferret
Gender: Female
Allegiance: Evil
Appearance:
Vera has bright blue eyes that are often shining with false emotion. She has around average height for a ferretmaid, and she has a slender figure, kept perfectly in shape because of constant training. The ferretmaid walks with a confident swagger, much like Drask, but in her case, she attracts much more attention doing so, due to the fact she is quite a good looking beast. Vera has the typical markings of a ferret; the light brown fur, with a dark brown "mask" around her eyes, but she has a much softer, almost cream colored under body, than the typical ferret. Along with remaining in top physical condition, Vera keeps her fur clean, with pride in her appearance.Belongings:
Vera owns a large collection of clothing, varying from crimson red armor to revealing dresses. She also has a considerable amount of wealth. Vera is armed with a rapier on occasion, but the ferretmaid always carries her daggers; one strapped to her upper arm, hidden underneath clothes, one displayed prominently on her belt, one poisoned dagger located in a hidden sheath in her armor, and one more dagger, this one sheathed on her belt as well.Job or Position:
Vera is Drask Darkfang's most trusted officer, but she is unknown to the rest of Riftgard, acting as an assassin, spy, bodyguard and whatever else Drask asks of her.Personality:
Vera remains quiet for the most part, only speaking when it is called of her too, and she does a good job of mirroring the emotions of her teacher, Drask. Keeping cool and reserved some of the time, mainly when she wasn't around the king, but she often portrays a naive young ferretmaid that is quick to act without thinking. A perfect cover for her job of spying on all of the officers in the army. Throw in a bit of seduction here and there, and Vera could charm any of the ferret captains into telling her whatever she wanted, even some of the weasels or stoats would fall for her smile. When she isn't around Drask's soldiers, the ferretmaid's attitude completely changes, reflecting a much different personality. She attempts to brighten the mood of Drask Darkfang every chance she gets, with a smile that isn't seductive, but one that bears warmth for her only friend. It pains the ferretmaid to see that her warmth to Drask isn't returned, but she hides it well and keeps trying. Vera even tries to joke around on occasion, whenever Drask seems to be in a rare good mood. The ferretmaid knows that Drask had a hell of a time growing up, just as she did, though the general never shared any of his past with her. Vera is utterly disgusted by virtually every other female at Riftgard, except for the few that enlisted in the navy or army, because of the lives that the majority of female vermin pursued. The wife of Drask, Callista, does not get along with Vera; the two ferretmaids are at each others' throats constantly. Vera believes that Callista married Drask only because of his power, and Callista doesn't like Vera for that reason. She also did not want to turn out anything like her mother, that was one of the reasons she strives so hard to excel at her job, for fear that she might end up back in that dirty little town instead of the comfortable life she now has.History and Background Information:
Vera was born on the dirty island of Terramort, to a ferretmaid that attracted the attentions of a corsair that found himself at port there. The corsair did not stick around after spending a brief time with the ferretmaid, regarding her coldly as he quickly resumed his career of pirating. The ferretmaid could do little to help provide for her daughter without the support she once had from the corsair, and at the earliest possible moment, she dumped Vera off on some other beast. That beast was an old stoatmum that had a steady source of income in her occupation, which was a cook at one of the numerous taverns at Terramort. The stoatmum raised Vera as she would have raised her own daughter, until the ferretmaid turned fifteen years old, then she left the presence of the beast that took care of her. Vera struck out on her own, attempting to make something with her life instead of ending up like the stoatmum or so many other countless females beasts that lived out their meaningless lives at Terramort. She had little luck at first, but she kept trying, until she managed to get passage off the pirate island and sailed to Riftgard, where she joined the guard battalion of Drask Darkfang.Any other details:
Vera didn't make much money serving in the guard, but it was enough to survive off of, until her luck changed again. When she was nineteen years old, she got the attention of King Darkfang. She managed to thwart an assassination attempt, which gained her a promotion. Vera quickly impressed Drask with her quick mind and a unique talent of battle planning that rivaled the king's. Drask took advantage of Vera's talent, and had her removed secretly from the guard, keeping her identity hidden from his army and navy. The king began to teach her everything he knew about fighting, but some of her training came from an extremely unlikely source; the notorious bounty hunter, Cad Bane. While Drask was busy with his duties as king, she learned many unique skills from the mongoose, which made her even more valuable to the Pure Ferret king. Cad only taught her his skills, because of a large sum of money from Drask, not out of any caring for the ferretmaid. Vera remained hidden from all other beasts except Drask, who promised the ferremaid the greatest reward she could possibly desire; normally, the Vera would have never trusted a promise made by anybeast, especially another ferret, but something made her pledge herself in service of the king, so that she could get her paws on that reward.
She became Drask's eyes and ears when it came to his army, carefully gathering intelligence that was reported back to the king. But she also served the purpose of an executioner, killing anybeast that stepped out of line, but only if Drask ordered her to do so. Vera still managed to blend in, often dressing as a new recruit to disguise her true position. One of her assignments is to report to Drask about each of the higher officers, and whatever they did when their ruler wasn't looking.
Vera was proud that she had made something of her life, unlike her mother and so many other females. She gave every last scrap of energy to Drask, craving the reward he promised, which she hoped was more than the silver coins she regularly received. The ferretmaid often found herself hoping that the reward would be to become more than an apprentice to Drask, but it seemed that the other ferret was incapable of true emotion. Vera promised herself that she would break the wall Drask built around himself someday, to allow her to touch emotions that the king kept hidden.
It pained her when Drask married Callista. She thought that was going to be her, but fate had a cruel way of dealing with the ferretmaid. She still serves Drask loyally, trying to convince the king that Callista is no good.
