Appearance:
Marlon is a fairly tall and well-built young dogfox, but not incredibly so. He is well-balanced on sinewy, powerful legs and footpaws that are slightly broader than an average fox's. His shoulders are also unusually strong-looking. His fur coat is a deep rust red color in most places, but down his back and across his shoulders are streaks of a darker burnt color of brownish red. His throatfur and chestfur are a very pure white, which becomes more infused with a pale yellow on his stomach area. On his tail his fur becomes more ginger the closer you look to the fluffy, white tip. This fox's face is dominated by a pair of dark sapphire blue eyes, which are usually soft and friendly-looking. His snout is shorter and less pointed than most other foxes, and the nose itself is small and muddy brown. He has a somewhat weak-looking chin but a prominent jawline, which is tufted with cream-colored fur as it comes close to his ears. The ears are tipped a lusterous black and aren't very pointed. About his kind face hangs long locks of soft, fluffy headfur hang, of mixed ginger, light brown, and deep rust colors. All together the colors mix and appear to be a faded cherry red.Belongings:
Currently in his wanderings his appearance is rather soiled, matted, and ragged--as are his clothing. He wears a torn and frazzle-edged brown tunic, a pair of equally dirtied black pants, and a mottled jerkin with pale green, coppery, and gray leaf patterns--camoulflage. About his waist is a belt of lizard skin leather where he keeps his sword and medicinal pouch. Nowadays it is hard to tell his kind features apart from the grime and grit of his impovershed, wandering condition.
Marlon carries with him a bright and well-maintained longsword of a plain and practical make, a Dane axe that he hangs about his shoulders by a strip of cloth, a worn leather pouch that contains various healing substances, bandages, dried herbs, and tools for making medicine, and a bronze chain medallion that he wears around his neck tucked into his clothes. This medallion is of a rounded triangular shape and is set with a cloudy peridot and two clearer blue stones. Both the sword, axe, and medallion are of an extremely special signifigance, as they are the last traces of his slaughtered tribe.Job or Position:
He officially has no occupation, but possesses much skill in both the healing and warrior arts.Personality:
Technically, though, he's a poor beggar.
Marlon is as his appearance suggests--minus the label of vermin. He is known to be kindhearted and generous to any who require assistance, and his temper has a long fuse, which generally makes him more understanding of others (even those he has to struggle to tolerate). He has a burning passion to protect others in whatever way he can, and from which arises the warrior side of his nature. When in battle with an enemy who strives only to harm others Marlon becomes very aggresive and uses very brutal techniques most fighting beasts wouldn't consider, such as crushing elbow strikes and biting at faces.History and Background Information:
At a friendly level Marlon is generally helpful and responsible, and he puts a lot of effort into respecting those around him. Despite his rough appearance he is polite and well-educated. His knowledge of unarmed combat and survival skills are unrivaled except perhaps by trained hares and squirrel elites, but he isn't boastful about his skills. On the contrary, he's usually quite modest and mild-mannered.
The start of Marlon's story begins in Mossflower Country, not too many miles from Redwall Abbey. He was born into the Mossfox Tribe, a clan of roughly one hundred red and grey foxes who made the southern edge of the commons south of Redwall their home even before Redwall Abbey had been constructed. The Mossfoxes were relatively peaceful and educated, not at all like their roving horde cousins, and specialized in becoming both healers and fighters. Though the tribe as a whole was basically good, it is only the most vile among them that are ever mentioned in Mossflower's long history, such as the vixens Fortunata, Old Sela, and the shame of the tribe--Slagar aka. Chikenhound.Any other details:
Marlon grew up in this environment, learning how to fight from his uncle Laross and how to heal from one of the village Elders, Sayjhema. He was noted to be exceptional at both of these skills and was very much loved by the adults of the tribe. His closest friend, a colossal fox by the name of Gaeyen, was his antithesis: Hot-blooded, brassy, and problematic at lessons. Marlon and Gaeyen grew up together, shaping each other's personalities into far better beasts. Marlon became less timid, and Gaeyen's ferocious temper calmed down.
When Marlon was 40 seasons old both of his parents succumbed to a deadly respiratory disease. From that moment on the young fox vowed to always try to save others from such a fate. He studied healing herbs even harder and became something of an expert before the age of 14 years.
On the autumn of his eighteenth year he was sent into the woods to gather herbs for the Elders, unaware of an evil plot in the making. A wicked hamster named Sarrath had traveled up from the Southern Continents in search of conflict to fuel his psychotic bloodlust. Finding none, he introduced himself to a unit of Long Patrol hares and befriended them, then fabricated a story of capture and unspeakable torture at the hands of the Mossfox Tribe. He was such a good liar that the hares believed him, and they soon amassed a band of hares and woodlanders to put a stop to the suffering (they had no idea that they were now officially Sarrath's tools).
Every one of the Mossfox Tribe were killed in the fighting, even little ones and Elders, regardless of an order from the Long Patrol Captain. When Marlon returned to his village his friend Gaeyen was barely alive. No matter what he could do Gaeyen would inevitably die from his injuries, but before he did the fox warrior gave Marlon his sword, axe, and medallion, and was told that even though death is something nobeast can avoid Marlon should continue to put his heart into saving those in need.
Marlon fell into a depressed stupor and worked for two days laying all of his tribe to rest. Then he burned down all the village and left it behind him. He wandered into the wilderness of Mossflower and continued his travels through the heart of winter with little supplies. In time his wounds healed and he began looking for a new start. As winter wanes he has begun to wander close to Redwall Abbey.
