The rhythmic beat of paws upon a muddy path was drowned out by the pouring rain and the rumble of thunder. The beast producing the sound wore a cloak, blending in with the foliage unless he moved. Sure, it was a cloak of a Marlfox, but its owner didn't care to notice that after buying it in aome random shop along the way. Maybe that's why it costed extra... Despite the cloak's original owner, the beast wearing it now was not a fox, but a squirrel. From outward appearances that would not appear to be so, as his long bushy tail was hidden under that same cloak, as was the rest of him. the only thing that was exposed was his backpack, made of thick canvas, and his quiver of arrows next to it. The beast was an archer, but was a swordsbeast as well, the blade hanging from his belt making that apparent. He walked onwards, head bowed against the weather, lost in thought. He did not know what was on the path ahead, though...

Rain! How dare you mock me!? After a few slaps across the face with wet branches the squirell had taken to the ground. His small frame was unadorned by cloak or coat, that was the next thing he was going to request for hs services, a nice hodded cloak, his last one had been ravaged by the branches, and was now rather useless. So he had left it there, as a sign to the location of Markim's camp. Seeing the grey mottled cloak he was forced to look up as he passed the creature on the road. The rain obscured the squirell's face. So he thught he had found himself a Marlfox, someone with information. Even though he hated to do so, he stopped and asked a question of the traveler. "Do ya happen to know where I can find a wolverine by the name of Salim(Sarim) Blackheart?" More en likely not, he never remembered meeting the fellow. It had been a long tiem since he had ran into a marlfox. Turning his head away from the beast he scowled at his patch ridden tunic, why had he changed outfits? His other one was basically wet proof, and was very durable, much mroe udrable then this rag!

The squirrel stopped with a final squish in the mud and looked up at the other member of his species that stood before him, inquiring about a certain wolverine. Thinking him a goodbeast, as all squirrels were assumed to be, he asked in return, "Why would you want to find a wolverine?" Of course he didn't know where any wolverines were at all.

"He's a dangerous vile beast." Something about the way the creature spoke made him say this. There was no sign of a accent, and saying that instead of saying he was on a mission worked better for either side. If it truly was a vermin and he knew the beast, stating he was to kill him could cause a conflict, but acting like he was looking for him may ruffle the fur of a good beast. Piper hadn't been polite enough to turn back toward Silas, the first sign of someone who lacked proper manners. Of course maybe this was due to his efforts to keep his face out of the direct onslaught of the rain, yet knowing Piper he didn't believe this creature worth his undivided attention. Not in the slightest. Although he did want to be polite enough to offer his name, well is old name, before he changed it to Piper. "Julian(Jwee-an)" The pause after his name indictated that he was waiting for a answer.

The squirrel raised an eyebrow at the curious traveler. That's his name, eh? He thought. If this other squirrel lacked proper manners, it wasn't all that suspicious. But he had a feeling, an ill feeling about this character. Maybe it was just the weather...?
"Silas." He introduced himself, holding out a paw and trying not to show the slight reluctance in doing so.

"Plreasure I am sure." In fact he really wasn't sure. Now he was positive he wasn't dealing with a Marlfox. The name, and the small paw had given it away. Damn. That made his job a lot mroe difficult. Pulling at his baggy tunic, he offered up a 'freindly' and what he thought was a pleasant smile. Of course it was the kind of smikle that sent little kids behind their mommy's skirt. Piper wasn't the best person to jdge smiles on their friendly factor. Not at all.
Clasping the offered paw he looked up at the sky nd shook his head. Was the sky sendin him a bad omen? One that ssaid that this mission was not going to go very well?Probably. Did he listen?Nope. "Such nasty weather." A offhand observation.

Silas noted the smile, his own expression remaining impassive. He then realized that it wasn't the weather that raised his suspicions. Still, he could be wrong. He also glanced up at the sky, the grey clouds mirrored in his deep blue eyes. "Yeah, it shows up 'round this time of year." He glanced back down at the odd traveler. "So, where are you from?" He asked the straightforward question.

Listening to the squirell Piper nodded. Shaking his head free of the moisture that was begininng to congregate there. Or was he skaing his head at the forward question? Hard to tell really. "To th' Southeas' of here mate." That would land him around Noonvale, and southsward. While in reality he came from the other squirell ruled Kingdom. Whose bounds were not that far away. In fact if the weather wasn't o bad he might have been able to see a few squirells dashing through the tree tops. "How bout yourself Silas?" This was bad, the weather kept messing with his accent. He really needed to keep it together, of course repeating himself would make him look rather idiotic. No need to correct something the other squirell wouldn't know was wrong after all.

((I thought Noonvale was in the Northeast.))
Silas sighed, for some reason, whenther at the minutely growing suspicion he had for 'Julian', or at the memory of home. "I came from up north. Not too far north, though, just enough to wave to the vermin that pass by." He explains with a tired sort of humor. Sure, the rain didn't gain him that suspicious feeling, but it wore down his spirits some despite that.

(oO)...I actually have no idea...pretend it says northeast) Piper sighed. Not at the squirell's statement, but at the realization of hwo close he was. Those sleeping brats of the squirell clan seemed to taunt him. But today he had a much better payingg job to do. One that didn't end with he in shackles. A good job for the slaving squirells. "We hid when the vermin came." Which was in fact true, they hid from the vermin, while taunting , and shooting at them. The archers aim was almost masterful, and rarely had a arrow been wasted. From what he saw nwo the squirells struck him as much more lax, and lots more lazy. Piper could tell that the squirell was suspicious, so he decided to calm him.
"This reminds e of a song I know...Oh--are you thirsty for soemthing besides this cursed water perchance?" He had a few beakers of whisky, and for himself a few of strawberry fizz. the rest were a mixture of drinks he had made over time, mostly from leftovers of the other two. Of course there was barley Mint tea. That was nice, but not on a chill, rainy day like this. [/blockquote]

"I have some apple cider." Silas said, reaching around and grabbing the canten from its place hooked onto his backpack. unscrewing the cap, he took a sip or two of the golden liquid. As he reached back, he revealed the rest of himself to be a squirrel, bushy tail visible beneath the cloak, as well as his sword, the black pommel stone shining dully in the grey light. Still holding his canteen, the squirrel eyed 'Julian' curiously. "You sing?"

The sword caught his attention much more then the tail. He had figured out a while ago that this was not a fox, and had been very suspicious that this creature was in fact a squirell like himself. So engrossed was he in the weapon that the question caught him offguard. Of course answer it he did. "That I do, and thats not all.." Besides singing, he also danced, and charmed young children free of their beds. Like he was sorely tempted to do to the sleeping babes nearby. No doubt they'd hear the beautiful music and come running as they liked to do. Of course not. Piper did lots more.

"I see." The other squirrel says, eyeing him up and down as if examining his physical self and therefore, his supposed profession. "You're an entertainer of sorts, then?" He asked. Silas was obviously curious... (Length issues I know... )

'you could say that." Piper was usually the one being entertained though. He liked te osund of screaming mothers, and the children who giggled becasue they thought the kidnapping to be a perverse game of hide and seek. Stupid little , annoying little things. Of ocurse he would like to prove he was a entertainer, but in this rain he doubted much of anything he could do would work. The Pan-pipe would have to dry, and the rain as making his throat scratchy. Or maybe that was the dirt clogging up this tunic, this thing was damn dirty! If it wasn't then he didn't look poor. On this he needed to look like a goodbeast out for revenge, oe who had losti t all, but his few priized possesions and the cothing on his back.

Silas, unaware of the other squirrel's past, merely nodded. "Hm. I could never go into that sort of stuff. I'm not used to bein' watched by everyone..." He explains. "What brings you out here, though? The next settlement is up the road quite a ways..." Silas gestures with a paw behind him up the path.
