Mari watched Ghost curiously as he threw a couple things into the bushes and examined the tailring. She sniffed curiously to see if she get a scent from it but wasn't very succesful. The ferret's scent had covered any other scent that may have been on it.

Ghost was closer to the ring, and attempted to pick up a scent as well. He might as well have been sniffing garbage. Wrinkling his nose in disgust, he walked over to the otters again, showing them the ring in clearer detail. It was at this point that the fox noticed a small inscription on the inside of the tailring.

Rio noticed the inscription as well and tried to read it, but the name wasn't one that he recognized. He tilted his head as he tried to think of who it might be. He tried picking up a scent as well but only ended up wrinkling his nose as he caught nothing but the ferret's scent.

"Oh." Ghost declared, hiding a sheepish grin as he turned the ring over so that the lettering was not upside-down. The inscription was in fact something else than a name, and read this:
I give this to you my dearest love, Hold it close, and you shall know no fear, For I will always be with you, Takemeruu.
Ghost sounded out the last word with difficulty("Tak-amm-err-ooo"), as the word seemed foreign, not of his language. He looked puzzled, not one particularly for mushy inscriptions on the inside of a tailring.

Both otters scratched the backs of their tilted heads in thought as they tried to figure out whether the name or incription meant anything. So far it wasn't ringing a bell, but they wanted to try to figure out who it belonged to.

"Hmmm..." Ghost said in thought, frowning. His ears perked up as the ferret groaned nearby. "Here. I'll have to tie 'im up." He gave the gold ring to Rio, and walked back towards the ferret. If the otters ran off with such a trinket, Ghost didn't mind. He was not one for fanciful items. They meant nothing to him.

Rio turned it over and over in his paws, viewing it from every angle. It was certainly very pretty. He just hoped he could find whoever it was that it belonged to and give it back to them.

OOC: This is a tie-up thread, if you read any of the thread called 'Reflective Reflections' near the Abbey pond... Ye ken read up on that and put the pieces together.

OOC: Yeah, I guess...
As Ghost tied up the mostly unconscious ferret, he asked the otters as he worked, "So, uh, where are ye from?" Attempting to break the silence. personally, he never liked goodbeasts either, but the otters seemed nice enoguh.

Rio looked up from the tailring and smiled slightly. I'm from the coast. I grew up with my parents spending most of my time on a ship traveling with them. I work with a couple friends of mine. We're sailors on a trading vessel nowadays. Mari nodded in agreement. I'm from the coast too, but my parents were something like farmers. We moved into the forest a few years after I was born and started a small farm. I left home a few years ago and I've been wandering ever since.

"Mmm-hmm..." The fox responded as he finished off a skillfully-executed knot. He had heard of sea otters before, but never actually met any. He sighed, and replies, "Guess it's my turn then?" Seeing no sign of complaint, he began. "Well, I came from the east, far away from here..." Ghost said, seeing the image of home in his mind. "I was raised by a good family, good village..." he paused, as if wondering if to tell the near-strangers his story.

Mari nodded understandingly. So that's why you're not like most foxes I've met? She'd met a few foxes before, but they were always robbers, brigands, and murderers like she'd heard. Ghost was obviously different, though, and she wanted to get to know him.
