Gemma sat down beside him and took a bite of her own stew. She shrugged, "I introduced you to everyone, and they know you're going to be staying on with them to Redwall. Don't seem like they're going to miss me at all." She smirked. "So I guess I'll be on my way pretty soon after I'm finished eating. After that kiss you promised me of course." She said the last bit quickly and shoved another bite of stew into her mouth so she didn't have to elaborate.

Batou was about to put in another bite as well, but stopped. "Of course. And after that I hope your journey finds you well. Anything I should know or keep in mind as we go to Redwall?"

"Umm. . ." Gemma tried to think of what the journey would have in it's way for them. "There's a village, it's predominantly vermin. We usually don't have any problems there but it's best to be on your guard."
((check out "Time draws near" in the River Moss. I need Taure to stop in there fairly soon))

"Well it really shouldn't be a problem, if they don't usually do anything to a group of unarmed travelers, then they really shouldn't give us any trouble if they see a badger with a huge sword across his back." Batou said, proudly holding up his Zweihander.

Gemma just stared at big male badger for a moment, "You certainly do look very impressive." Then she tore her eyes away and smiled slightly embarrassed. She tried to recover with snide comment, "The question is: can you use that thing?" She was sure that he could but didn't mind the idea of him giving her an exhibition.

He knew Gemma wasn't serious about knowing if he could use the sword. But he figured he'd play along anyway. "Well, it has been a while. I guess some practice couldn't hurt. I'll go look for some things I can use as targets." he said, enthusiastically. He was actually getting somewhat excited about getting to use his Zweihander for something after so long.

It's not often that Gemma gets to see a show. She's usually acting, singing, producing, directing or all of the above and doesn't get the chance to just watch. She'd like to get started on her journey sometime soon but she wouldn't miss this for the world. "So what are you going to show me?" She asks Batou.

"I guess some things my father showed me that look particularly impressive, as well as just how powerful this weapon is." Batou said proudly as he set up some sticks and sacks to look like a beast of some kind.

Gemma made herself comfortable watching Batou prepare and noticed that several of the other Troupe members were also gathering around. It would be good for them to see the skills of the beast she was leaving to watch over them. "Well, get on with it." She called to Batou teasingly, "I've got places to go and creatures to see."

"You can't rush art," he called back to her with a laugh. He held the sword at his left side, standing there for a bit. 'I'll just start off showing them the different stances and transitions,' he thought. He swung his mighty sword down to his right, taking it in his right paw from there. Then he made a low sweep that gradually rose, putting his sword downward behind his back. He then made a strong, slow swing downward, but instead of letting the sword hit the ground hard, he crouched down at the end of the swing, grabbing the side of the blade with his left paw. From there he spun around and made another rising sweep, putting him back in his original two-handed stance.

He was right it was a work of art. The way he moved was like a dance born of many years of practice. Gemma had no doubt that if he was provoked it would certainly be a dance of death. But it was all so measured and controlled. She watched quietly, knowing as a fellow performer that interrupting him would be the worst sort of insult.

Batou grinned at Gemma. Then he turnned his attention back to the target, which he was about to start hitting for his "second act." He ran at the target, using a quick reverse hit of the sword's pommel to knock away the piece of wood it was using as a shield. He raised his blade high from there, but only as high as he needed to get it above the stick that was the target's "sword" arm. He brought his sword down hard on the "arm", cutting it off then dropping low. From there Batou made a low stab to the target's right leg. however, because he planned another attack after that, he made it only a light hit, which "tripped" the target. He switched the sword to his right paw, and made the same stab at the now-doubled-over target, impailing it where its chest would be. Just for more flair, he grabbed his sword's handle with his other paw, and flung the target over his back. After all this was done, Batou stabbed his Zweihander into the ground and took a bow.

There was a loud round of applause when he finished. Gemma being the loudest of the bunch she stood and gave a deafening whistle with two fingers in her mouth. "That was amazing," she ran over to him and patted him on the back. "You're so. . . disciplined in your craft." She knew this was necessary for in a battle if he was over come by bloodwrath there would be no thinking about what the next move to make should be. But he was also very controlled. This beast didn't just fall into bloodwrath. He had a command over it that most badgers never attained. She wondered if this was how he was able to restrain other passions. She looked down realizing that she had been staring at him once again. "I should be going soon," she told him.

"Oh. Okay." With a wink only visible to her he said, "Do you need a hand with anything before you go?" He hoped she guessed this was a referrence to the kiss he, no they both, had promised.

"I've got most of it." She smiled back at him, her heart beating faster. "I do need to go down to the stream and fill my water flask for the journey. Meet me there?" she breathed the last question quietly for only he to hear. Then she hurried back to the cart and grabbed her haversack full of supplies. She took a quick look at herself in the mirror and said a few good-byes to her friends. Then she made her way down to the stream where she knew Batou would be waiting for her.
