Silas waited patiently nearby for Tamar to shoot off her last arrow. After that, he would have the beasts rotate through two more sets of firing six arrows, then they would be sent to the paw-to-paw station after a few words from the squirrel warrior. They had come such a long way in the space of a few days. He only hoped that this training would be enough.

Tamar knew she was the only creature left to shoot, she was holding everybeast up and they were all looking at her. However she still wanted to make every shot count, so she took her time and aimed carefully. The bow, that had become like an extension of her own paw, once again did not fail her. It sent her final arrow dead center into the target.

Silas blinked and looked at the target again. He couldn't help but watch at Tamar's side, saying, "Wow.'' She was doing incredibly good on the first round with the shortbow, whereas everyone else had their groupings somewhere else on the targets. "Very good." He said a bit louder for Tamar herself to hear. Seeing everyone's eyes on the squirrelmaid and himself, he gave the command to retrieve arrows after a second.
"Uh, step over the line and pick your arrows up."

Tamar held back while the other creatures went to retrieve their arrows. She wanted to talk to Silas and ask him a question, "Where did this bow come from? Was it just in the Abbey arsenal?" She looked up at him, her hazel eyes misty. "My grandfather was Abbey Champion. I think it may have been his."

"You know what, I think you're right. I picked that one out because it felt a lot better than the rest..." Silas informed her, looking back into those hazel eyes. Well, if her grandpa was the Abbey champion, that explains the accuracy right off the string there... He thought, again glancing at the target.

"I used to watch him practice. He was an amazing shot." She remembered seeing him shoot the vermin who had murdered her parents and she blinked back tears. "He never wanted me to have to use a weapon, so he never taught me." She too looked at the target. "It's amazing what you can learn just by watching." She smiled with a trace of sadness still remaining and skipped off to retrieve her arrows.

"I'll say...'' Silas commented, noticing something behind that smile, as he had quickly picked up on Tamar's body language and facial expressions. A bad memory, perhaps? He would find out in due time. Meanwhile, everyone else was carrying back their arrows and stepping back to the firing line. He first moved back towards the picnic table, grabbing two items, then he moved off either to aid Tamar in her search for the arrows in the snow, or set himself up for a few rounds of shooting arrows.

Tamar noticed Silas following her so she continued the conversation. It was nice to talk about her grandfather. "You should have seen him wield Martin's Sword. That was amazing. I never saw him use it on anybeast, thank the seasons, just practice demonstrations." As she spoke she bent down to pick up an arrow in the snow. It reminded her of the conversation they had had the other day about playing in the snow. She knew they were supposed to be being serious and preparing for the coming battle and all that but she just couldn't resist. She balled up a pawfull of snow and called his name innocently, "Silas." She drew back to throw as soon as he turned to look at her.

"Yes, Tam-" He stopped in mid-sentence, seeing her ready to throw. He knew he couldn't dodge it now, as he fell into the 'trap'.
Piff!
The snowball hurled towards him, colliding with the side of his face. He went back a pace, then laughed. "I see your ." He remarked, almost reaching down to gather snow and retaliate. But, then, as he was leaning over with a wide grin on his face, he realized that everyone was now undoubtedly staring at them both.

Tamar saw him about to go for his own snowball and then hesitate. She grinned at him. She didn't care who was watching. With a teasing light dancing in her eyes she mouthed the words, "I dare you."

"It's on." He replied in the same way, scooping the white powder up, quickly packing it into a rough sphere, and, with a grin on his face he threw it back at Tamar. Pretty soon the otherbeasts were either confused or ready to join in, the majority being the former.

Tamar threw her tail up in front of her face and managed to deflect most of the first snowball but after a while she was laughing so hard that all defensive strategy flew out the window. She was covered in snow from ears to tail tip and having a wonderful time. More and more of the other creatures in the grounds joined in the fun until finally one of the dibbuns, who had been forced to stay inside for their own safety during the practice sessions, noticed the fun and ran out to join in. In all the commotion, everybeast had kind of forgotten to pay attention to the two squirrels who started it and Tamar took the opportunity to race over and grab Silas's paw. She looked up at him grinning, with no words for the joy she felt.

Silas laughed, also living in the moment, about to throw a snowball until he felt Tamar's warm grip on his paw. He found himself ducking snowballs whilst gripping her paw, smiling even as another snowball skidded across his eye, which at that particular moment he blinked, saving himself the trounble of being temporarily blind. "I guess this counts as training, too!" He called out to Tamar in between laughing and dodging more projectiles, finding his voice after several minutes.

Tamar was too busy staring at Silas to see the large snowball that seemed to come from nowhere and smacked her in the chest. It didn't hurt but it knocked the wind out of her and made her loose her balance. She took a step to steady herself but her foodpaw only found an icy patch and with a very un-Tamar-like squeal she slipped and fell, cushioned by her fluffy tail. Her paw, still firmly holding Silas's, was unable to keep her standing.

"Whoa!"
Silas was also dragged down by Tamar, connected as he was to the squirrelmaid, unknowingly dodging another snowball in the action. He landed right beside her with a whumpf in the snow, amidst the combatants. Hoping that they wouldn't be stepped on, (Especially Tamar) he faced her.
