Vrelt still smiled cunningly, "The real question is how you know her." Vrelt knew his outburst pleased Kolia, he boared into her eyes with his icy gaze, "Yes Kolia, I do know Romsca." Vrelt drank the last of his water, "Silas, could you please get my wine, it's in my sack."

Silas raised an eyebrow. "Y'sure?" He vaguely indicated the sun in the east, still creeping into the sky lazily. Decent creatures tended to stay away from alcohol until the afternoon or evening. But, once again, Silas reasoned that Vrel was the exception.

"Oh, one hears things," she answered in a bored voice. "Nasty little rummors." She had remembered now the time when Roask had mentioned the female ferret. He had also done it to annoy her. He'd said they would have been good friends. Well, I don't have friends, especially not silly little corsair ferrets. Kolia was getting bored with the game and after being up half the night at the Redwallers council about their stupid sword and tapestry being stolen, all she really wanted to do was lie down and get some sleep.

Vrelt's dark smile broadened, this game was finally getting to her, "Ah, dirty little rumors." Vrelt knew all about Roask and Kolia, the spy he had sent was very effective. "Have you ever met Roask? He is an old friend of mine." Vrelt enjoyed this very much, he hadn't had this much fun for a long time.

Weariness left Kolia beyond caring what the squirrel might think at this point. "I heard he got a dagger in the back," she said shortly. Then she laid down on her bed with her back to the others and pulled the cover up over herself. "You should be careful who you choose for friends." She closed her eyes and wished they would just leave her alone.

Vrelt leaned back in his chair, he continued to smile, then he spoke in the vermin tongue, "Never underestimate Vrelt Darkfang, I have won." He looked out the window and spoke normally, "Oh, it's in the morning, no time for drinking wine. To bad." Vrelt leaned toward Kolia and whispered, barely able to hear himself, "You now who threw that dagger, don't you?"

Kolia didn't even flinch. She just whispered back to him in the vermin tongue, "Just be glad I don't have my daggers now, Ferret." She snuggled down into the comfortable bed knowing that if the squirrel decided to repeat any of this to the other Abbeybeasts it could very well be the last time she slept in a bed like this for a long time.

Vrelt kept smiling, and spoke in the vermin tongue, "Well I have mine." He pulled up his pant-leg slightly revealing the keen tip of his poison dagger. Vrelt leaned back in the chair still smiling smugly he turned to Silas, "That was a very interesting discussion, Silas."

Vortex woke. It seemed he had slept for a long time, and as he glanced out the window, his suspicions were confirmed. The sun had risen higher. Then he heard creatures arguing, a ferret and a weasel. He ignored them, and tried to sit up. He made it! He was getting a lot better.

Somebeast really ought to tell those stupid Abbeydwellers that they have an armed ferret in their sickbay. These were Kolia's last thoughts as she drifted off to sleep in the comfortable infirmary bed.
And then she was back on the battle field where her father had died. There was the figure lying on the ground, but as in her other dream it was not her father but Roask lying there dying. There was another figure bending over him as she had once bent over her father. It was a young weasel. It looked like, but no it couldn't also be Roask. He looked very much like Roask only a little younger. And then the young weasel turned to face her. His eyes were like her own. She knew she was looking into the eyes of her own son. Then a curious thing happened. This young weasel, who looked so much like his father, split into to identical weasels. The first was silent and quick, with a mark like a lightning bolt painted on each cheek. The face of the second was unmarked but he was screaming like thunder. Kolia now began to wonder about her point of view. If she wasn't the child looking down on the father as she had been once upon a time, where was she? She was lying someplace warm and comfortable. It was a bed, peaceful and inviting. Kolia looked up again at her twin sons from the comfort of the bed. They were coming towards her. Their father was dead. They were coming to take their revenge on her. Suddenly Kolia recognized the bed in which she found herself. This was the bed where she had found her own mother in the arms of the Warlord who had killed her father. Her mother who had sold out she and her father for the warmth and security of this bed. But Kolia hadn't sold out Roask and her children, had she? She hadn't run into the arms of a great protector. Kolia was afraid to look but she couldn't stop herself. Whose bed had she chosen over Roask's? She screamed when she saw him: the warrior mouse from the picture on the tapestry. Kolia had run into the arms of Redwall.
“No!!!” she woke up screaming. She was still in the Abbey infirmary but she had to get away. She couldn't stay here. Her place was by Roask's side. She knew that now. She sprang from the bed and ran for the door.

Vrelt was surprised by Kolia's quickness, but the ferret moved faster, even with a brace on his ankle. "Silas! Vortex! Help me stop 'er!" He charged after the Kolia, he could almost grab her. It was a strange sight, a warlord ferret chasing a pregnant weaselmaid through Redwall, he could only imagine the Abbeydwellers' horror and surprise at the chase. Kolia burst through the doors of the Abbey, Vrelt hot on her heels. She nearly made it to the gate when Vrelt leaped through the air, he landed just short of Kolia, but managed to get a strong grip on her shoulders. Vrelt stopped Kolia in front of the huge gate. The powerful arms of Vrelt held Kolia still, "Silas, I got her!" He looked into the struggling weaselmaid's eyes, "Don't you wish you decided to leave here with me? Now you ruined our chances of escape, they won't trust us anymore."

Outside the gate the two wolf's nearly jumped out of their fur. "Wha' in hellgates do you think your doing so early in the morning? Kolia--Elthia told you to stay in the abbey, its getting chill out here." The black wolfess replied with a narrow eyed glare, of course in the depths of her thick black fur it was hard to tell her onyx eyes had changed at all. Beside her Allarin stirred, his muzzle opening in a yawn. He hadn;t slept in a while, and the commotion had woke him. Rubbing his large yes he turned to see Vrelt, Kolia, and Silas down below. A confrontation of some kind. Looking to Kolia he shook his head.
Beside him the huge female wolf picked himself up and walked purposelly down the wall steps. Crossing her furry arms she stood in front of the gate. "Now march back up to your room before I carry you." Barking a few times she took a threatening step towards the pair. "You as welll, that ankle needs to set so you can get outta here!"

"Let go of me!" Kolia struggled to get away from the ferret. "I can't stay here." She wished again to have her daggers. "I wouldn't leave with you for all the treasure on Terramort. I don't care who the bloody creatures trust. LET ME GO!!!!!" Not having any other weapons at paw Kolia resorted to what she did have: fangs. She opened her mouth wide over his exposed arm and prepared to bite down with all of her might.

Vrelt yelled in pain as her teeth sunk into his arm, the warlord grabbed Kolia by her snout, he pulled with all his might ripping the weaselmaid of his arm. He moved to stand in front of the gate he looked at his bleeding arm in shock, Kolia had just sunk her fangs into him. Vrelt rushed Kolia, he grabbed her and pulled her arms behind her back with one paw while the other gripped her shoulder. He whispered in her ear, "Listen closely Kolia, we're leaving this place. And we're leaving together because you can't defend yourself against all threats, and I can't go alone either because of my ankle. Now are you with me or against me, I could just hand you back over to them or you can come with me."

"Do I have a choice? Oww." The exclamation of pain was more from the hard kick one of the twins gave her than because of the uncomfortable position in which Vrelt was holding her. She had to think of the babies. Yes, she now knew the reason why she had been feeling so much movement. There were two of them in there. They had to be kept safe and healthy. She sighed and relaxed the tension in her body so he would know she wasn't going to try to run. "Alright. We leave together. But we have to find Roask. I have to know he's alive."
