This is a formal announcement and casting call for Redscape, the all-new, all-vermin Redwall survivor contest. The contest takes place in the vermin trading city of Evnakt on the island of Evnara...or what's left of it. Wondering what Evnakt is like, or why only some of it is left? Well, to get the answers to that, keep watching this thread, or any of the other announcements that will be going up shortly on Redwall related sites.
Here's the details:
Redscape will be a Redwall survivor contest in the same vein as ROC: Survivor, Redventure, or Midnight Mossflower. Ten different writers will write ten different character. At the conclusion of every round, the audience and cast will vote to decide which character will die that round. This shall continue until only three are left. The slots are as follows:
1) Male cat
2) Female wolf. (Think a wolf the size of the one Urgan Nagru killed, or of the size you can find in non-Redwall RPGs, not gigantic monsters like in Redventure 4. Wolves should be of appropriate size and proportions to interact on a normal basis with other contestants.)
3) Male stoat
4) Female fox
5) Male Ferret
6) Female Pine Marten
7) Male rat
8) Female monitor lizard
9) Any Other Vermin (AOV), Male
10) AOV , Female
For the any other vermin categories, you may submit any combination that is not found on the list, so long as they appear as vermin in a Redwall book. For instance, you could submit a male pine marten, female rat, male weasel, female wolverine, etc and so forth, but not a male cat, female wolf, male stoat, etc under the AOV categories.
The administrative staff shall judge entries received. For each category, the top 3 entries shall be selected and posted to the board within a week of the application deadline. Audience members shall then be permitted to vote for their favorite in each category. The top contestants shall then be contacted and asked if they are still both willing and able to participate. Once all contestants have been validated the contest shall begin.
Deadline: A concrete deadline shall be announced at a later date. However, it is most likely that the deadline shall fall within a few days of May 20th, 2009. At their own discretion the administrative staff may extend the deadline by up to seven days.

Entry rules:
*Contestants may enter 1 application per category in as many categories as they wish. Categories will be judged independently, with the quality of applications in one category not affecting the evaluation of applications in other categories.
*Each cast member may only write 1 character. If a single writer shall win in multiple categories, that writer shall be allowed to choose one winning application to write in the contest. In the other categories, the administrative staff will approach the writer with the next highest vote count.
*Should a category receive fewer than 3 applications, the administrative staff may, at its discretion, unilaterally select a character or open a second round of applications. This decision will be made on the basis of audience interest and the goal of starting the contest in a timely fashion
Writing Rules: Important!
*Redscape is intended primarily for audiences and cast members 16 and older. Although there is no absolute age limit, applications will be judged according to this standard.
*Given the older intended audience and the fact that Redscape is an all vermin contest, rules regarding content in Redscape shall be more relaxed and lenient than is typical in a Redwall Survivor Contest
-In general, content that the Motion Picture Association of America would categorize as between PG-13 and R will tend to be accepted so long as it is not excessively gratuitous, has merit and relevance to the storyline, and is in compliance with board terms of use and all relevant laws and regulations
-The administrative staff shall generally defer to the cast members when judging whether content exceeds these guidelines, unless the content in question is severely problematic to the extent of warranting a more immediate response.
What this means for cast members and audiences: Generally, we're going to trust you to self-regulate in regards to content. This is a vermin contest with what will likely be mostly older writers. As long as things don't get out of hand, cast members can take this concept and run with it however they want.
*Contestant Behavior: Please maintain respectful behavior towards other cast and audience members, administrators and guests at all times. This does not mean debates or arguments are not allowed, it simply means that you are expected to act like mature, intelligent people.
Furthermore, please take adverse developments in stride. For instance, if a character you like dies, please do not accuse the cast members of unethical conduct or refer to them as mentally disabled. Also, although the administrative staff cannot prevent you from leaving either the cast or the audience in anger over a decision should you choose to do so, the administrative staff advises against such threats.
Story Details:
Further posts explaining the storyline in detail are in the works. However, in the interest of time and convenience, here's the Cliffs Notes version:
*Evnakt is a mostly vermin trading city established on a strategically placed island close to several sea lanes. Think of it as a more built-up equivalent to Sampetra. It's a place where traders and corsairs alike can sell their wares as well as buy supplies and weapons, fix their ships, and spend their hard earned takes on alcohol, gambling, and the companionship of attractive female vermin. Unlike Ublaz, who wants power, the mayor of Evnakt really just wants money and as long as the tax revenues keep flowing, he doesn't really interfere too much in the lives of the inhabitants or visitors.
*Evnakt and its island get hit with a massive seastorm. This storm destroys many buildings and most of the ships in the harbor, and floods several areas of the island. The mayor's control on the city becomes considerably more tenuous.
*Shortly hereafter, before repairs can start in earnest, Evnakt is hit by a serious outbreak of infectious disease that further reduces the population on the island. The disease kills a large fraction of the populations, drives others mad, and is completely without effect on the rest.
*The new Lord of Salamandastron hears about all this and decides to flex his foreign policy muscles by organizing a blockade of Evnakt. Anybody trying to leave gets killed by the blockade, thereby trapping survivors on the island.
The story will commence towards the end of the plague, by which time almost everyone susceptible to it will have already felt its effects.
