Sev heard Dimitri. "Righto!" he said. He saw a zombie on the fringe, and sent a round through its chest, strewing zombie pieces all over the ground. He saw another one, about to take out one of Dimitri's weasels and blasted that one in the head. he switched over to explosive rounds and fired one into the middle of a group of zombies, killing 4. Putting another clip of Sabres in, he took out three more. he shouted into the radio "Dimitri! Are you clear? If you are, I'm going to check the other areas to see if they are in any trouble."

Anna rubbed her shoulder. She hadn't been run down, but the hare's rifle had hit her pretty hard. She realized now that she had been crying but what with the beast rushing past her and Sergei's now very close proximity, the reason for her tears had flown from her mind. "I'm fine," she said as a reflex but the truth was she was sure she would have a bruise on that shoulder, her heart was racing, and though she couldn't remember why, she had been crying.

"...You sure?" Bane asked, frowning inwardly as he looked at her tear-stained features. Usually when beasts cried for no reason was because the brain scorcher gave them a memory of some terrible event. He had seen Grey being hit by it once... He also noticed that the weaselmaid was hit by the rifle that the passing hare carried.
"You can lay down if you aren't feeling well..." He suggested, gesturing towards either her room or his own, then looks back up. "If you, um, need to." He added at the end.
------------------------------------------------
"Yeah, we're good. Take the party to 'em." Dmitri said, whacking a zombie in the face with the stok of his Obokan, then blastng its chest into bits with the opposite end of the rifle.

"My shoulder hurts," She said lamely. As she said it the paw that had been rubbing her shoulder went to her face and wiped the tears away from her cheeks. "I think, I'm alright, really." She was touched at his concern and had begun to remember why she had been crying. She felt that he needed some kind of explanation. "Sam," she jumped strait into it. "He and I were dibbunhood sweethearts. I was over him seasons ago but he, I think, never got over me. He came on this trip because I think he wanted to protect me." She sighed and her eyes were wet again. "It's sort of my fault that he's . . ."

((Most zombies are either armed with sticks or paws. They lack the motor skills to wield weapons. But the Raputre are different...))
"No it's not." Bane shook his head. "It was the Zone's fault." Ultimately it was, since it was created in the first place by beasts, but aside from that fact Bane hated to see Anna cry. In more eloquent speech it might've went 'Seeing such a lovely creature in despair oft evokes sympathy and compassion for them'. But in a place such as the Zone, these words were left alone, in their stead placed a feeling. Not a raw, untamed instinct though, but sort of a gut feeling that the weasel happened to possess. He was surprised at himself in this instance, not because he usually lacked sympathy, but due to long years of traveling. He looked into Anna's eyes, almost asking her to not cry again. He didn't know what to say at this point, so he just stood there for a second.

Anna looked up at him through tear blurred eyes. She bit her lip and nodded. "Your right, of course." Despite of all the pain the memories evoked, it was healing somehow to tell somebeast. Jane had been there when the awful even happened and the two maids had more or less promised each other that they would never bring it up again. But Anna had needed to say something, to get it out of her so it didn't just fester inside. Most beasts didn't care or they had seen so much carnage themselves that the story of one small weaselmaid was only one more grain of sand on the beach of suffering. After their long conversation in the bar and how he had rescued her earlier, Anna knew she had found the creature she could finally unburden herself to. She felt a lightness that she hadn't felt in weeks. She brushed away her tears and knew she wouldn't have to cry for Sam again. "It's hard," she said, her voice stronger now. "It was such an awful thing to see, and somebeast that I'd known all my life . . .I know I can't do anything about it but somehow it makes me want to do more for those I can help, like that rat you brought in today." She smiled at him still a bit weakly. "You didn't have to bring him in, but you did. You could have left him out there to save yourself. I haven't seen kindness like that since I got here. I . . . well, just . . . thank you. You've renewed my hope in creatures."

"Er..." Here Bane paused a bit. Shoving his paws into his pockets, he looked back up. "No problem..." He said in reply, speaking modestly. "Just doing what I can. No one else'll do it anyways." Of course he knew of otherbeasts that might do the same as he did, it was just that they were a littlecorrupted, a little worn out by the zone. They say half the battle out here is in your own mind. forty-eight percent was in the wild, and two percent in the bar over a drink. That was how it usually worked. At least he tried to make that rule not apply to somebeast, specifically the one that stood in front of him. Scuffing a footpaw across the floor, he again looked for something to say.

Anna noticed his discomfort and was suddenly embarrassed for him. She blushed, thinking of what she had said. It was true of course. What with Jane's pregnancy, and the long hours she was working, and just being here in the Zone, she was starting to get depressed and rundown. That is before she saw the act of kindness that this creature had preformed for his fellow beast. She remembered why she had wanted to come in the first place. She was encouraged and motivated. However she was also dead on her feet, exhausted. She would be glad to use all this new found energy and excitement tomorrow when she went into work with Ashlyn, but right now she really craved sleep. "I guess I should, er, go. . ." she gestured at the door to the apartment she shared with Jane.

"Yeah." Bane agreed, glancing at the clock down the hallway. It was later than he thought... "Best t' get some rest for tomorrow." He said, opening his own door and inclining his head to Anna. "Um, Goodnight." He said in parting, Stepping backwards into the room.

"Goodnight," Anna echoed as she watched Bane disappear into his room. Then she turned and began to unlock the series of locks on her own door. She looked up at the number 6 as she did and shuddered, remembering that this is exactly where she had been when the ferret came up behind her earlier. She glanced quickly down the hallway in both directions suddenly feeling very alone. As she opened the door and stepped inside she looked back again at the door Bane had gone through. She couldn't help but think that something was lacking in the way they had parted. It wasn't as if she had expected a goodnight kiss at the end of a date but she did wish she had been able to say something or . . . Oh I don't know. . . and then she knew what it was. She had never learned his real name.

Bane listened until Anna's door closed shut. Satisfied that she was safe, he turned around to face the back of a wolf, sitting crouched over in a wooden chair watching a small TV set. A canister of pills and an empty glass of water were set on a small table next to it. "Welcome back." The wolf said dryly, leaning back to look over his shoulder at Bane. "What took ye so long?" "Eh, just talkin'." The wolf looked curiously back at him. "I suppose it has something to do with the healer across the hall, doesn't it?" "...Yeah." "Aha. Knew it." Bane sighed, opening the door to his bedroom, which was neat and tidy, the bedsheets nice and orderly. He set his duffel bag nearby, and unloaded his 1911 pistols as well as his Ak-74 to the side of the bed against the wall. He then flopped down onto the bed, his thoughts still wandering... He had learned and said much in his long conversation with Anna. He thought that that was probably the longest he had talked to anybeast of the opposite gender. His thoughts then turned to the wolf in the other room, and the pills near him. Grey had to take a prescriptionto keep his paws from shaking, especially whilst sniping. The wolf had to live here year-round, and it had clearly gotten to him. Right now he was watching some Russian show, as he normally did when off-duty. He looked up at the beast and asked before closing the door. "Hey, you alright?" "Yeah. Just a little nervous is all." " 'Kay." With that reassurance, Bane flopped onto the bed, and tried to get some sleep. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Moscow, Russia...A letter was taken into the office. A very important letter. Guards stood fast as the rat entered with the note in paw. 'At ease," He muttered in Russian. They relaxed their stance, and opened the door for him to enter the labyrinth hallway that ultimately led to the intended recipient of the letter. Walking through various secretary offices, he came to the actual office of the President of Russia. The rat stopped at the desk to confront a weary-eyed fox, saluting him. When the president's voice came, it was gruff, that of a throat without much water. "What's it this time?""Sir, the package is here." The president held out a paw, the general moving over to place it in his palm. The fox first looked to the letter, then to the rat. "Dismissed." The fox ordered without much thought put into it, looking back to the letter as the General retreated back to his own office. The fox, now alone, swiveled about in his chair, opening the letter with a claw. Reading though the contents quickly, he set them down calmly, his features now resolute. He picked up the phone. "Send a message to General Vurgan. Tell him that it's time to carry out his mission, effective immediately. Take no prisoners." A few moments as the other beast on the phone talks. The fox hangs up the phone and sighs, swiveling his chair to gaze out of the window to the west. He sighed. "Time to clean up our mess..." He muttered. ((Blech, not huge-o, but it took awhile...))

Sev went around the hill. "Control, this is Sniper Four. Sector Seven is being overrun. Repeat, Sector Seven is being overrun. Send reinforcements, over." Sev targeted the first zombie, and pulled the trigger, sending its head skittering along the ground. The second one took a round in the chest. Sev just mechanically fired until he saw the reinforcements arrived. He sat back on his heels. "Control, what is the situation, over?"

"Sniper Four this is Captain Darkfang of echo squad. I read and am moving to cover you. Over." Vrelt set his Obokan assault rifle to automatic and blasted away at a group of zombies coming up from behind Sev. "Sniper Four this is NY spec. ops. I'm coming up from behind you, over." The name NY was given to the ferret, since he was from New York, and being born in America brought him a lot of trouble, Russians didn't really like Americans all that much. He sprinted up the hill toward Sev while firing repeatedly at zombies that got to close.

Anna poked her head into Jane's room to see if she was okay, but she wasn't there. She had left a note saying that she felt well enough to do the 'graveyard shift' at the medbay. Anna winced at the term. Jane had gone on to say that she would also 'attend to the related unpleasantness'. Poor Jane, Anna sighed. She didn't know if she would have been able to be so flippant about burying the ferret. She noticed that the gun Jane had used to kill the beast was missing also. She must have brought it with her. Anna felt a little better. At least the ferretmaid had a weapon with her that she was comfortable using. She would be alright. Anna turned to the other door that led to her own room. She changed out of her clothes into PJs and climbed into bed. A great sense of loneliness came over her. It was amusing to think that yesterday when she didn't really have anyone to talk to, nobeast she could really call a friend; she didn't feel lonely at all. But now that she had met Bane, spent those hours talking to him, admitted things to him that before now she had never even admitted to herself; she felt lonely at his absence. The weaselmaid rolled over onto her side and hugged her pillow. After a while, she drifted off into a discontented sleep.
