Loyalty is one of the defining characteristic of Larka's personality with self preservation coming in at a close second. Once she has pledged herself to something she will be loyal to that cause until the end or at least until the end is in sight. If she sees that there is no other option to insure her own survival she will be forced to change her affiliation. Such was the case when her own father was killed in the service to the old Emperor when Teague took power.History and Background Information:
When Larka is on the clock she's very serious and totally focused on her work of protecting the queen but as soon as she's on her own time she's easygoing, playful and has a great sense of humor. Since she escaped the chopping block she feels like she's been given a second chance at life and she determined to make the most of it.
Moll still remembers the day when she was not much bigger than a kit when the stoat captain Jasper Roshell came to her home to visit her mother. She didn't understand at the time what visits like that meant but she did know enough to stay out of the bedroom and play quietly with her toys until he went away. One day as he was leaving he patted her on the head and said, "You know I have a daughter about your age maybe I'll bring her by some time so you two can play." Maybe he felt a little guilty because his own mate had died several years before and his daughter had no female friends. So the next time he came to pay a visit the Emperor's own bodyguard brought with him his little girl and that was the first time that Molly Rawnwave met Larka Roshell.Any other details:
At first the two didn't seem to have much in common that is until Moll got the idea to show Larka the dager that her father had left her. Larka had studied with weapons for as long as she could remember and she knew that this blade was special. Larka had grown up in the palace of the old Emperor. Her father was not only bodyguard but also confidant and friend and he had gained permission to train his children in the same arts, first his twin sons Jokan and Jocard and then his daughter.
Larka learned swordplay right along side her brothers and in many cases she was better than they were and her father's praise annoyed them. He didn't realize the extent of this until one day when a young weasel name Teague challenged the old emperor for the throne his sons faught against him. They used their knowledge gained from growing up in the palace to assist the young upstart's takeover.
Larka watched as her father and several other beasts loyal to the old Emperor were put to death but she shed no tears knowing that her reaction could mean her own distruction. Teague was convinced that she was not a threat but her brothers convinced the new emperor that she could be a dangerous enemy. So following the recomendation of his new bodyguards he had Larka put in prison. She was treated badly under her brothers' supervision but Teague still had doubts about her being a threat.
She tried every way she could think of to get them to release her, promiceing to swear fealty to the new regime. But her brothers continued to poison the Emperor's mind concerning her character. Until one day when they had just convinced him to sign her death warrent, General Darkfang was making a round through the prison block and she yelled out to him, "I know who the heir of Rawnwave is!"
So it was she who told Drask about the barmaid at the Crow's Nest who carried the dagger with the Rawnwave family crest. She was rewarded with her life when her information was discovered to be true and was forced to swear under the influence of Teague's hypnotic stare to always be loyal to the Empire. He need not have gone to such extreme measures. Larka was prepared to do the work she had been trained for. She was however left behind on the sea voyage upon which Teague lost his life. This was probably once again her brothers' doing but it was they who were out of luck this time because they were both killed and she was left unharmed on Sampetra ready and waiting to take up her possition as head guard to the Empress as soon as she stepped off the boat back onto Sampetrian soil.
