"You look . . ." Ivy began seriously, but then she noticed the hint of a grin he was giving her and she returned it in kind. "You'll do." She took a step closer and reached out a paw to straighten his cravat. Then she looked up and her amber eyes met his orange ones. She was lost for a moment there until Mary spoke.
((oh gooseberries they don't have horses do they. well i suppose their carriage will just have to be a rickshaw kind of thingame))
"Well you can't walk home on that ankle. I'll call Byron to bring the carriage around." Maryann was torn between staying to chaperone her friend and excusing herself from the awkward moment. But then she remembered that she herself still had yet to get ready for the party and she couldn't do so with these two sillies staring at each other in the middle of the hallway.

Calvin looked down at Ivy's eyes and just could not look away, no matter how hard the teenaged cat tried. Gazing into her eyes was like gazing into a mystic pool in which your innermost desires were fulfilled. He almost didnt here what Maryann said, not that he cared anyhow. Calvin could just spend an eternity looking into Ivy's eyes.
((lol watch Maryann walk off, come back 10 minutes later and they are still standing there like that))

"Thank you," Ivy answered her friend vaguely also not really paying attention to Maryann's words. Staring into Calvin's eyes had the effect of being nearly a spiritual experience. It was unlike anything she had ever felt. Sure she had looked into the eyes of other males when she had danced with them but she had always felt like she was the one in control. That she was one one playing the game, letting the hapless boy just close enough to draw him in but not any further. With Calvin there was no control. She could feel herself falling (in love? perhaps) and she liked it.
When Maryann returned she found the two just as she had left them. "The carriage will be ready soon," she announced in a pushy voice that insinuated exactly how much she wanted to be rid of them.

Calvin nodded slightly, head bobbing but eyes remaining locked on Ivy. Unknowingly, his hand reached out for hers and, upon finding it, held it. He never looked away, but he did blink every so often. There was something in her eyes, something that just made him melt in his shoes and forget everything about life except her. She was his Sun, and he was a planet who could never escape from her gravity. And he didnt want to leave either. But how to tell her?

Ivy jumped slightly as if she had been shocked when his paw found hers but she didn't pull away. She broke her eyes away from his gaze and looked down at the joined paws. She smiled warmly and then started to lead the way down the stairs as if there were no problem with her ankle at all.
Maryann cleared her throat and stood with her paws on her hips. When Ivy looked back at her she pointed down at the supposedly handicapped footpaw.
Ivy gasped, "I forgot."

Calvin released air that he had held in his lungs. He felt so deprived when she broke eye lock. It took him a moment to realize that his paw was holding Ivy's, but even with the surprise, he did not remove it, whether by choice or instinct.
The cat looked down at Ivy's leg, slowly tracking its slender form, as it reached her ankle. "Well, the pain must've subsided temporarily. Lets not push its limits. I will carry you down, if you wish." said Calvin as he looked up again. He rather enjoyed carrying Ivy. It made him feel like a hero or someone that mattered in someone elses life.

Ivy looked back at him and sighed. Then she nodded lost for words again as she got lost in those orange eyes.
"Oh brother," Maryann muttered. Then she led the way again down the stairs. Watching the two other cats mooning over each other was beginning to make her nauseous. She wondered how they would possibly make it through the ball without one of them giving the game away. But then they'd probably be so involved with each other that no beast would have the oppurtunity to ask them for the truth.

Calvin was more careful this time. He was not going to just fall into the eye lock and lose track of time. Tempted as he was, he quickly winked at Ivy and he scooped her up. With Ivy in his arms, he began to go downstairs. "If we weren't needed in other places, I would've stayed there with you." whispered Calvin as he continued down the stairs.

Ivy gave a small giggle and blushed read under her dark gray fur. "Well then I suppose it's good that we can go together to the other places that we're needed." She had very much wanted to stay right where she was staring at him too but as long as he was near her she didn't really care where they were. O and how she very much loved being in his arms.

Calvin smiled. It wasn't his usual kid-like, innocent smile, but one of compassion and love. It was an expression he never thought he would have made for a good amount of time. He replied smoothly, "As long as I am with you, I'm happy." He continued down the stairs as he spoke, reducing the shock of any steps to that of a tiptoe for Ivy. He did not want to even make her breath discomfort.

Ivy didn't say another word as he carried her down to the carriage and lifted her inside. Then they rode in silence to her own home a few short miles away. It wasn't until her mother, having seen the carriage drive up much to early for the ball, came running out the door and down the front steps to see what the matter could be, that Ivy said anything at all.
"It's perfectly all right, Mother." She smiled at the female cat who was an older and quite a bit fatter version of herself. "I twisted my ankle but Mister Fairfax was kind enough to see me home."
Lady Nelson's eyes were instantly drawn to Calvin at the mention of the name. "Fairfax?" She knew that her husband and daughter had met members of the noble family on their trip to the Green Isle but she had yet to set eyes on one of them herself.
"Yes Mother. May I introduce Calvin Fairfax. Calvin, this is my mother, Lady Nelson."
((i think they're still in the carriage at this point and Lady Nelson has just run up beside them. He should probably step down and bow or kiss her paw or something before he turns around to help Ivy))

Calvin had forgotten that his "name" was Calvin Fairfax, and did not move for a brief moment until he realized his name was spoken. He stepped out of the carriage and blinked at Mrs. Nelson. He had not expected them to look so alike, only separated through time. He slowly lowered his head, bowing to show respect for Mrs. Nelson. "Good day, Mrs. Nelson," said Calvin quietly as he kissed the Lady's paw, "It is a pleasure to meet you."
He raised himself again, and looked upon Ivy. It was not her mother he had eyes for, it was Ivy herself. But now was not the time to fall back into the staring game they had played before. He was supposed to help Ivy get to her room so she could prepare for the ball that was coming up later. Calvin had no idea how to carry in her in her mother's presence. Would it be gentlemanly of him to carry her like before? Or should he hold her weight like a soldier would his buddy? He inched over to her and whispered, "Am I supposed to carry you?"

Ivy smiled at him and held out her paws and nodded in answer. She looked over his shoulder at her mother. She could see the mind of the older female working.
A Fairfax could be a powerful and notable connection. How fortunate that her daughter had met one of them and seemed quite taken with him as well. Oh, yes it wouldn't hurt to encourage this match. "Well, Mister Fairfax, I do appreciate you bringing our Ivy home. It was very kind of you."
"Mother, would it be all right for Calvin to stay here with us till the ball tonight?"
"Yes, yes. Of course," she addressed Calvin. "You just take her right up to her room and then come down and you can wait in the ballroom." Lady Nelson hesitated for a moment. Was it the proper thing to make such a distinguished guest wait in the ball room? "Or if you'd prefer you can wait in the sitting room. The musicians will be arriving shortly to set up there things in the ball room." She added as an afterthought.

Calvin nodded, and after letting Ivy know what he was going to do, picked her up and began walking her to her room. "Just direct me to where you need to go, Miss Ivy." said he as his eyes went about the area, trying to find anyone he knew. Calvin looked down again upon his rescuee. He felt so complete with her right in his arms, even though he had just met her. But, it felt somewhat wrong, being so fast to fall in love. Isn't there a perquisite before you can fall in love with someone? he thought with much confusion. its just too perfect and too easy, almost as if it was nothing but a dream.

Ivy gave directions for Calvin to carry her up the stairs and down the hall to her bedroom but she requested that he put her down outside the door. "I'll try to hurry so you won't have to wait alone." She turned to enter the chamber and then saw that her maid was waiting for her there so she made the pretense of limping.
"Oh Miz Ivy, what 'ave you done to yourself?" The hedgehogmaid fussed but Ivy didn't pay her much attention.
The cat smiled at Calvin as long as she could till the door was shut behind her blocking him from her view.
