He almost was dragged by her, still trying to find some means of escape to a place without dancing. "Actually, now that I think about it," he paused to look at his exposed wrist. "Its half past some time and i have important things to do at home. I have to trim the trees, sweep the floors, wash dishes, clean rooms, and... and... you dont believe a word I'm saying do you." Calvin sighed and was silent.

Ivy rolled her eyes, "You really don't like dancing, do you?" They could see the house now from the top of the dune but anyone looking out the windows would only be able to see too small figures. "Well then I suppose it's time for me to put on my act." Leaning heavily on him, she began to limp once again this time favoring her left footpaw. "She didn't resort to the pained expression quite yet, remembering how it had affected Calvin the last time.

Calvin almost toppled from the surprise weight on his side. "Whoa! Iv- Miss Ivy, can you give me a bit more of a warning next time?" said he. Almost immediately, he felt suddenly calmer than before, as if Ivy leaning on him was as soothing as being a babe in a mother's arms. It pleased him to no end of her being beside him, but he didnt want to get used to it. Ivy might just find someone else that she likes better.

"I'm sorry, Calvin." She smiled at him and leaned a bit closer. "May I lean against you?" She asked politely but obviously not taking no for an answer. "Oh and this is the correct footpaw isn't it?" She lifted the hem of her skirt over her ankle. "I must admit I've forgotten now."

Calvin sighed at her question. "Its your right footpaw. I told you not even 5 miuntes ago." he said calmly. "And yes, Miss Ivy, you may lean on me, and try not to use the face until we get near the house."
He looked forward to the house on the dune to see if Maryann was waiting outside, or if anyone was even looking in their direction. "Is your home guarded? I dont see-Oh that is a silly question. You are the daughter of the Admiral, of course your home is guarded." He saw movement on the house confirming his word, and he smiled slimly at his own brashness.

"Oh of course," Ivy corrected her limping and leaned closer to Calvin even thought it wasn't quite necessary. She smiled up at him. "And my home won't need to be guarded with all the officers who will be there this evening attending the ball. But you needn't worry I'm not taking you to my house yet. Maryann will have a suit of her brother's laid out for you at her home. That's it just there." She pointed down the slope of the dune towards the mansion in the valley. "We'll just go in the kitchen door. Come along." She pulled him forward even while leaning on him and limping.

Calvin looked down at Ivy leaning on him and pulling him. Rocky would have probably been like "Score!", but for some reason unbeknownst to Calvin, he was just content with her being there, excluding any infatuation-based feelings. "Miss Ivy, what do they serve here for dinner? I havent eaten lunch yet... but I dont want to be an unwanted burden."

"Oh dinner will be soup and quail and lots of other tasty things but it won't be for hours yet." Ivy was also very much enjoying her time spent alone with this little tom. She almost wished that they'd never reach Mary's house and they could just go on walking together forever.
She grinned. "If you're really hungry though I could make you a sandwich while you change into your suit."

Calvin's eyes lit up. "A sandwich! I love sandwiches!" he eagerly began going faster and faster until he was almost was at a run, now dragging Ivy behind him. He kept going, almost completely forgetting about the ruse he and his companion were trying to maintain.

Ivy giggled and smiled brightly at the male dragging her along. Then she looked ahead at the mansion they were headed towards and saw Maryann standing there with her arms folded over her chest and her tail swatting back and forth in annoyance. That seemed to remind the débutante of her ankle. Ivy slowed her pace and pulled back on Calvin's arm. She picked up with her limp once again.
Maryann rolled her eyes at the act. "I laid out one of Talbert's suits on his bed. Come along. I'll show you the way. We can take the back stairs."

Calvin felt the tug and immediately dropped back to 'help' Ivy. It was a guise that he was used to, with all the times Rocky and him would fake injuries to get out of work. Though it usually worked for calvin, not Rocky. "Thank you for the suits, Miss Maryann." he said, bowing slightly like his mother had taught him to do when with someone of a higher caste. Without hesitation, he lifted Ivy off of her feet and began walking faster than he would have, careful to not look up her dress or drop her. "I'll carry you up the stairs, Miss Ivy, so you dont injure yourself further.

Ivy let out a little gasp of delighted shock and then giggled. Her plan had been to just wait here for him in the kitchen but the heavenly sensation of having him carry her shot that idea right out the window. Her paws wrapped around his neck to assist his hold.
Maryann also gasped but her reaction was more out of horror at the position Ivy had allowed herself to get into. Still she stolidly lead the way up the stairs to the family bedrooms.

Calvin could barely hide his grin. He was almost enjoying this as much as she was, even though a bit of the joy was from Maryann's action. He walked quickly up the stairs to his room and put her down before the door. "I dont think you'd wish to follow me in while I change. So if you'd excuse me, miss Ivy and Miss Maryann." he bowed slightly again, and closed the door behind him. Calvin frowned slightly at the suit. He never did like high collars. But he could deal with it, plus he wanted to look good in front of Ivy She was his only chance of a companion he would never tire of. He quickly donned the clothing and opened to door, arms outstretched as he looked down at it.

Maryann had taken the time alone with her friend to admonish her about her behavior. To which Ivy dropped her ears and eyes penitently even though a smile still played at the corners of her mouth. Propriety be, damned! She liked Calvin and she knew that her father would like him too. What did it matter what anybeast else thought? Why should she hide her regard from the one beast who actually deserved it?
When the door opened both females looked up and for once Ivy was at a loss for words. It was a true gentlebeast who stood before them, one who would have no trouble fitting in amongst the guests at the ball tonight. Finally Ivy found her tongue and spoke, "I'm not sure I should allow you to carry me again. I wouldn't want you to muss your attire, Sir." The words could have sounded sarcastic but Ivy breathed them with a air of sincerity.

Calvin's orange eyes looked up to the women and he smiled shyly. He could see in Ivy's eyes that she was almost flabbergasted, and his smile turned into a small grin. Seeing Maryann was even more amusing. She was actually beginning to approve, and that was a milestone he did not expect to reach in less than 10 minutes. And yet, no one else but the three here knew about it. It was such an odd concept, this sneaking into a party, but something he could possibly enjoy. "Do i look ok?"
