Crystal blue skies reigned overhead, taming the brooding clouds off to the south and bathing the countryside in much-needed sunlight. Autumn was approaching rapidly, turning the morning air cool and crisp, carrying with it a distinctive scent of a forest of trees about to shed their leaves. One object, however, did not resemble a leaf, though it was suspended above the forest floor in an ancient, sturdy oak tree. The object appeared to be a shapeless blob of brown fabric on a limb of the tree, with a rather bushy tail exposed to the elements.
After a moment, the fabric moved and shifted, sitting upright. A young squirrel blinked away sleep from his eyes, shivering and shaking off the dew that has collected on his tail and his blanket. While drying off in the morning sunlight, the squirrel stretched, displaying lean muscle under his tunic. A quiver of arrows and a bow stood ready at his back, as did a haversack at his side.
The squirrel packed away his brown blanket, sifting through his haversack as his thoughts turned to breakfast. A bright red apple caught his eye as he sifted through a rather meager collection of rations. Taking a healthy bite out of the apple, he munched away, pondering his next course of action aloud, though in a hushed voice to himself,
"Hmm, maybe head east a bit today, get somewhere to rest before those clouds find their way over here." He peered over at the small gathering of brooding clouds to the south, looking far more menacing than the few puffy white ones overhead. With another stretch, he took the half-eaten apple in his mouth and scurried down the tree to the forest floor. Finishing the apple, he set the core down on a low branch near to him and merely on a whim, decided that a bit of practice would wake him up. With his bow unslung, and an arrow nocked to the string, the squirrel steadied himself, aiming to slice the apple in half.
Of course, the squirrel did not practice with bow and arrows for need of defense. This was a peaceful country, despite the many different tribes and groups of woodlanders living in the area. As such, he had no use for such a weapon aside from a performance amid one of these groups, a traveling marksbeast exchanging rather unique entertainment for sorely needed food and perhaps a nice bed to sleep in. And though his performances were usually successful, he always had a mind to practice every day, to improve upon his skill.
Holding the bow steady proved to be a challenge in the cool morning air, and as he let the string slip from his claws the arrow zipped past the target, grazing the top of the apple before tumbling in the air and landing on the ground. The squirrel decided not to try again with another arrow, as he did not like searching for more than one arrow. Often he discovered that the action had cost him one or more of the projectiles in searching for three or four at a time. With a sigh, he set off to find the loosed shaft behind the target, his mind still focused on the task at paw.
That's what happens when you play with your food, I guess. He thought, grinning a little at himself.

Thia was just flying from the south wanting to get away from the storm that's coming in. "sheesh, how bad could that thunder storm get?" she sighed. She continues flying till she sees an arrow that looked to be on the ground and went lower looking to see if there was an animal that needs help. when she lands she saw that there isn't a hurt animal and flies back up seeing a little squirrel. " Hi little one." she said friendly and landed on the branch near the little squirrel.

The squirrel's ears perked up as he heard a rustle of feathers above him. Quickly glancing up at the falcon perched on a branch overhead, he wore an expression of surprise more than anything else. Clearly his impression of large birds did not match up with the kindness he had heard in the bird's greeting.
Additionally, the squirrel was used to being alone in the woods, with nobeast for miles around to interact with. He stood facing the bird, silently trying to think of how to respond. Calling him little was of course understandable, though the squirrel considered himself a tall fellow for one of his species at age twenty-four.
"Uhm, hello." He replied nervously, his blue eyes turning from surprise to apprehension, cautiously setting his bow aside out of his paws. He did not want to appear as a threat to this new arrival.

Thia giggled at his reaction. "well why are you out here? what's your name?" she asked excitely. She was looking at the little squirrel with curosity but not dangerly.
She looked at him in the eyes with friendly matters. She didn't want to scare the little fellow off. She was worried however of the storm blowing in not having shelter or anything. "maybe i should warn him about the storm." she thought a little worried to herself. Seeing as she knew how bad that storm could be she just stayed put for a while.

Thia's giggling appeared to put the squirrel at ease, if only slightly, as he picked up the arrow at his feet. As she asked him his name and why he was in Mossflower wood, he blinked his blue eyes and replied, "Well, I'm Silas Hawkeye, traveler and sometime warrior." He flicked his tail out of his face as a small breeze blew it there, shifting the leaves around on the trees with a rustle. "I was, uhm, just heading east, you know, to see what's out there." He gestured with a paw to the rising sun overhead to his right.
Then the squirrel thought of asking a question of his own, regarding the falcon before him with his deep blue eyes. "And may I ask who you are, uhm, miss?" His voice still carried a note of nervousness as he inquired, unused to being eye to eye with any bird whatsoever, big or small.

"well then silas, my name is Thia. No need to be nervious Silas." she said sweetly to him. She was soo thankful that the creature was nice and all. "always great news to hear. Oh did you know about that storm coming it seems really dangerous and violent." she said a little worried, "we should probably seek some shelter at least huh?"

"Ah." Silas nodded at Thia, quietly wondering how a falcon could prove to be so nice. However, he did not forget his nervousness when he encountered her gaze. He politely kept his reservations to himself as he glanced over to the south, where storm clouds were indeed brewing. "Yes, we should. It's hard to stay warm when you're being rained on in the middle of fall. Looks like the storm's a fair bit away, yet." He replied thoughtfully, turning to face the bird once more. "Though I don't suppose you'd know anywhere around here that would keep the rain off? I'm new to this bit of country..." He explained with a shrg.

"well actually i'm new here also other than my nest isn't to far away from here except the storm i've been in i hate wet feathers can't fly very easily at all." she said with a shudder. She always liked little creatures but never met one not around here often enough. "i don't really know where we could go but head west for a while and rest there but i've never been there before." she said with a shrug.

Silas nodded as Thia mentioned traveling west, replying in a less nervous tone, "I've just walked from the west, actually. A few days' march would get you open fields, not much else." He scratched his whiskers in thought, glancing over to the north, with its clear blue sky and cool breeze ruffling the leaves around them. "If you really want to stay out of the weather, though, there's always sense in moving away from the storm." He suggested, gesturing northwards.

Thia liked creatures that made sense. "Good point silas, ok then let's go Northward." she giggled. "you know silas you are very sweet." she said nicely. "sooo what do you do other than traveling silas?" she asked soo sweetly most people liked her for. she kept glancing at the sky and was about to fly northward but decided against it for now.

"Ah, well..." Silas smiled and glanced at the ground, probably at the falcon's compliment as he answered her last question. "I usually go around and perform some sort of show with this," He holds up his bow and gestures to his quiver of arrows on his back, "I mean, I'm supposed to be a warrior and all that, but this country's really peaceful. So I put my skills to work entertaining otherbeasts." He shrugged, looking back up at the bird and merely glad to have someone to talk to while he is traveling to and from settlements.

Thia got all serious all of a sudden when he said it was peaceful. "actually let me tell you something that's been going on lately silas. We've been having vermin problems and no one to take care of them. I'm a healer however i can't fight that well. I can tell you where but you might not believe me. I know these areas and they are known for many vermin stealing and fighting for things. I travel every now and then but never far. many animals need my help for injuries and sickness. let me tell you a little more on the vermin incidents later one though give you a bit more background on it." she said seriously. "i never met someone that was actually a traveler and a fighter that's great." she thought happily but with a serious stature on the outside.

Silas blinked, quite unaware of the danger that Thia had alerted him to until now. His experssion hardened to one of seriousness as well, as the falcon told him of the vermin roaming the area. "Hmm... I haven't run into any verminbeasts at all though. In fact, I don't think anyone's out here, aside from..." The squirrel paused, thinking that maybe there were some vermin about. The absence of his fellow woodlanders seemed to point towards that anyways. However, he was a warrior, and quite confident that he could handle himself traveling in these parts. It still semed peaceful though.

"I think you should rethink about the peacefulness of it here. It's not very peaceful for sure expecially when it's coming to a full moon soon." She said a little bit more relaxed. "never thought of a squirrel not paying attention to the signs." She thought with a sigh. "I would say however i've been planning on traveling anyways but not on my own quite yet." She said openly. She was a little unaware of something/someone paying attention to the conversation from where they were talking at. "well anyways silas, if you are going on your own, stay on guard don't let your guard down just yet." She said and opens her wings to get ready to fly off with that warning.

The squirrel's blue eyes watched as Thia prepared to fly away. "Where will you go, then?" He asked out of curiosity, wondering where the falcon would leave him in Mossflower woods with a new found danger. And while he could understand her departure, he still favored the presence of a fellow traveler over being alone. Though on occasions, the squirrel's excessive time alone allowed him to think clearly and without interruption, so either option had their value.
