"Her name was Sheila. We were to be married. She was the most beautiful thing in the entire world. Until those savages decided to kill her for the pure hell of it. She never had a chance. She had no weapons. Sheila was too kind and gentle to carry them. I had been looking for here when I heard her screaming. I killed them all but by the time I'd finished, she was already dead. There was nothing that could be done for her." it was said quietly, painfully. "Do you understand? She was everything to me and they took her from me. Now I basically have no purpose in life, just wandering and protecting myself."

A strange nerve welled up in Yonga as she listened closely to Moonlight's dark tale. Whether it was the spark of inspiration or of insanity that caused her to speak these words, noone knew for sure. "Young one," she began with a wise and subtle smile,"I do not beleive you are blind, at least not through yer eyes. Your sorrow has blinded you in another way, can you not see her through your mind's eye?" Yonga spoke evenly and calmly, her eyes half-lidded and gazing at the white wolf almost as a mother would to her crying babe,"And where is yer mind's eye? Why, that's simple: It is within you. Sheila is gone out here, but in you she still lives as vibrantly as ever. A loss is a loss, yes, but it is no testament to her memory when you cling to these feelin's of sadness. My husband died only a scant year ago, but I know he still sends me love an' goodwill from the shade of Dark Forest. As I know your Sheila does for you." Vaxdrea held her breath, stunned at Yonga's speech. She had never heard her friend speak like that to anybeast!

He shook his head. "She has to hate me. If I would have taken her for help at the start instead of killing the others, she might still be alive today. Its my fault she is dead, and there is no reason to forgive me for my own blind rage." He carried that same rage now, currently dormant, but turning him into a berserker.

"Hmm... I do not believe you are to blame for what happened," Yonga shook her head,"But that is for you to decide as you wander, an' I know none of us can change yore mind by force, even if it would make life less painful." The ferrethag sighed as she bent over and released one of the bonds restraining Moonlight. The others took the hint and aided her in untying the wolf.

The wolf sat up slowly, considering the sudden change of his fortunes. "You're letting me go? I thought your chief and seer wanted to talk with me. I think they'd look poorly on your letting me go." he said, slightly confused. Few Juska would risk the wrath of both the seer and the chief.

Yonga shrugged, though she smiled at the same time. "Our seer has the gift of the Eye, so he prob'ly already knows. Heh, he might've known for days already that this would happen." She said resignedly,"And as for Cheif Rang, he is not a crool one. We'll take what he gives us. But I was hoping you wouldn't leave just yet..." The ferret said somewhat pleadingly. Vaxdrea banged her forehead with her open paw; Yonga may take the punishment of releasing the wolf in stride, but she wasn't so eager to.

The wolf shook his head. "I can't leave yet anyway. Those Bowcats still have my weapons, and I need to get them back. They were my father's. I'm not going to leave them in the filthy paws of those vermin!" He seemed to have stopped thinking of the ferrethags as vermin, which was odd for him to do. Very odd indeed

Gullask's ears perked up when Moonlight mentioned weapons. He stepped forward and gestured towards the tent flaps in a friendly manner. "Well, now, why don't we escort you to our cheif's tent? He'll be pretty eager to know of these Bowcats, an' who knows? Knowin' him he'll prob'ly appointed the most skilled of our tribe to a spyin' party. Maybe one of us could get in an' get yore weapons back" The grey fox suggested hopefully, giving his best friendly smile.

"If anybody's going to get my weapons back, its going to be me." replied the wolf, somewhat frostily. Relenting a little, he explained. "It's a matter of honor. I could never make somebody do something that I could do it myself. Its just how I am."

The grey fox gaped slightly and drew back, mumbling a half-hearted apolegy, his eyes shifting back and forth between the white wolf and the floor. Garrbod gave his friend a funny look and drew his sword, offering it to Moonlight by the hilt. It was a fine thing, a bit too fine to be carried by a common henchrat, with a straight blade and wide blood channel, set with a piece of smoky quartz at its pommel. "Hmm, if yer goin' it alone at least let us help ye a little. Here, yore weaponless, an' yer sure to need somethin' to protect yoreself with 'til you get yore weapons back." The rat stated emphatically.

He reached out and took the blade, carefully inspecting it, from width to length, strength and flexibility, and its weight. "Now what if I was planning to kill you all? Now you would have no weapon and I'd be able to kill this fox here, then you and the others. But fortunately for you, I have no plans of doing so."

Garrbod smiled dryly. "Well, I s'ppose we're just too trustin' for our own good, huh?" He sarcastically remarked. Gullask snorted. Yonga grinned and nodded, eying Moonlight with admiration. Vaxdrea tapped her claws on the table, nearly dozing off. "Oh brother..."

He gave a slight smile. "You might want to watch being so trusting. I might have just been lying about Sheila to get you to let me go." A pained expression crossed his face. "Unfortunately, that part was true. She is dead and it was my fault."

"My, my, my..."Vaxdrea grumbled. Gullask silently excused himself, slipping out the tent flaps with hardly a backwards glance. Garrbod cocked his head after the fox. "Oh, now where's 'e off to?"the rat wondered. "Nevermind that one, he's always been a slinker,"Yonga chucked. She then peered about, slightly worried,"It might be 'bout time you slinked off. We don't know when th' Cheif might be comin' back." -------------------------------------------- Gullask loped along through the vast Juska encampment, searching for the largest tent. That wolf--hunh! The big oaf probably hadn't even realised what his intentions were when he offered to get his weapons from the Bowcats! No wolf could compete with the cunning of an intelligent young fox like himself. Hah! Did he expect his weapons to be returned?? The grey fox was wickedly sure that it was the white wolf who had to worry about being too trusting!

"Eh. He's probably off sulking after I told him I didn't want him to get my weapons back. He's most likely vastly underestimated my skills. Most do. I mean, who would think a wolf my size would be able to sneak around and do anything." Moonlight shook his head. "Some beasts just don't understand."
