Tamar had been up since before dawn it was her morning to help with the bread baking. She hated the job not only because she wasn't a morning beast but also because she found working in the kitchens to be very demeaning to a female creature. Oh well, there was no use complaining and now she was done, the loaves were in the oven and she had wandered up the wall steps to look out onto the path and maybe get a glimpse of somebeast returning.

However, the squirrelmaiden would be sorely disappointed, for no one was entering the abbey this early, if at all.
Leastways, if they were goodbeasts.
The quiet, brisk air seemed to tingle with something, as if expectant, tense. And it was, for one figure perched precariously upon a tree limb, watching the squirrel from a short distance away. His cloak blended in with the leaves about him, gaining him an advantage. He smirked. Such was the ways of the Marlfox. 'To see and not bee seen thyself.' He waited for his chance.
OOC: I'll get the thing goin' after my return in about thirty-forty five minutes.

Tamar thought she may have heard a noise come from a nearby tree but she squinted her eyes in that direction and didn't see anybeast. She sighed and looked down the path once more then she turned and started to head back down the wallsteps.

The fox saw his opportunity, and took it as if he were a swooping hawk, the irony of such a comparison due to the absence of one Silas Hawkeye, the one beast who might know his identity. The other abbeydwellers were peaceful beasts. Fools. Thus being thought rather than said aloud, he jumped.
Landing on the walltop without as much as a whisper, it would have one unheard had the branch not sprung up and down at the force he gave it. It rustled as the wind was gone. Nevertheless, he dashed for the squirrelmaid, racing the obviously faster sound waves that would alert her to his presence.

"Stupid," Tamar was saying softly to herself. "Even if he was coming back this very moment. What makes you think he'd want to see you?" She was not paying attention to anything to anything but her own thoughts and had not seen or heard or even felt anything amiss.

The fox halted, already having his dirk out, right behind the squirrelmaid. He smirked, listening to her talk to herself. And as the final word was uttered, the monster moved the steel blade to come against her throat, the other coming up to cover her mouth in the event of a scream.

Tamar did attempt a scream but then she scolded herself for doing so. Even in this obviously dangerous situation she was still ashamed of herself for acting like the damsel in distress. It wasn't her style. She was female, hear her roar. But even a strong female such as herself could do absolutely nothing about the dirk that was pressed to her throat.

"Now be still, if ye know what's good for you." The fox growled into her ear. He was secretly disappointed. This seemed too easy. "I have a job for you." He began, attempting to point Tamar's line of sight towards the west gatehouse. "You see that doorway over there? I want you to open it. Now I will release you, but if you as much as shout or attract attention, you will die where you stand. Do I make myself clear?" His voice was now a threatening whisper instead of the initial growl.

Male she thought when she heard the beast's voice. Well of course. A female could talk things out it was only male who had to resort to physical force. Truly Tamar was terrified but if she kept up her angry stance against the coarser sex perhaps she could stay strong enough to stay alive. She nodded. His message had been perfectly clear. She wished she knew some fantastic fighting maneuver so that she could take out the foe beast on her own. She made a mental note to learn something like that if she got threw this alive. Silas would teach her she was sure. The thought nearly made her smile but again she mentally slapped herself for her silliness. She thought of biting the paw that covered her mouth but she was sure this beast meant business when he said he would slay her. Tamar clamped her eyes shut preparing herself to do what she needed to do to keep her life and as she did she felt tears squeeze out and run down her cheeks. She wished she was brave enough to die for the good of the Abbey but what good would that really do them anyway. The beast would still find a way to get what he wanted. She nodded again and waited for him to release her.

"Go..." The beast ordered, first taking a paw off of her mouth, keeping the dirk present before saying, "But walk." He adds, removing the dirk and pushing the squirrelmaid forward gently. Then, he was gone. Vanished from sight and sound, as if the beast had been taken into another dimension.

Tamar spun around as soon as she was released and tried to get a look at her captor but he had already disappeared. Then she thought she knew what this must be, some abbeybeast was playing a trick on her, trying to scare her. But she still wasn't entirely sure. She spoke quietly to the emptiness, "You want me to open the gate?" Her voice sounded small and weak.

"No. Just unlock it." Surprisingly, the beast answered, again from behind Tamar. He had anticipated her turning around as soon as he let go. "Do this one simple task, and you'll not be harmed." He kept the dirk in his paw...
Just in case.

"Just unlock it." She repeated in barely a whisper and gulped. That was not the voice of any abbeybeast. Tamar began to shiver knowing that her life was truly in danger. What else could she do? She turned back to face the the little wall gate and walked slowly toward it. As she went she looked from side to side hoping she would see someone who could help her. But there was no one. She reached the door and stopped closing her eyes. "Martin help me," she breathed and then she opened her eyes and lifted the latch.

A few seconds of silence passed without event. Then, a rustling of the grass could be heard. "See? Wasn't all that bad, now was it?" The same voice spoke next to Tamar. "If you would wait here..." He attempted to grab both of the squirrel's wrists and tie them off with a small length of cord behind her. Though the action was hasty, which made it prone to error, the Marlfox could still manage if Tamar didn't struggle.

Tamar let out a little scream as the fox, she now knew it was a fox, grabbed her wrists. It took a full second for her brain to tell her paws to jerk away but by that point she was held fast. She wondered if anybeast had heard her, wondered if she should call out again, wondered what the fox would do to her now. Her eyes were wide with terror and now they were also wet with tears.
