"Who er you then?" Trill asked, coming forward only a bit. Her tone made the question sound gaurded but the truth was that she was merely curious, not deflecting. She would answer the question posed to her but wanted to know who she was speaking to. There was only so much she would say to any beast but the leader of the abbey.

The squirrelmaid on the wall drew herself up importantly. "I'm Tamar and I'm the assistant to the Abbess." She looked down on the newcomer both literally and figuratively. "You haven't answered my question."
Saol was rather peeved with the tone Tamar was taking with the visitor and was not afraid to tell her so, "Tamer, guests bees welcum hur! You'm let'er cum in an' she kun answer questions later, burr oi!"
Tamar sighed heavily but deferred to the authority of the molemaid. "Come on in," she said gesturing for Trill to come forward.
((Si, you wanna have one of your NCPs open the gate?))

((let me know if I should change this))
Taking the invitation a bit too literally as she tended to do Trill took a small hop to a more convenient branch then leapt across the gap between the tree and the wall. If a fox could do it a squirrel certainly could.
"Thank you." Trill said in the direction of the voice that had granted her permission to enter, ducking her head in an odd way that constituted a respectful bow in her mind. She nodded also at the squirrel maid who had questioned her. She didn't take any offense at her behavior though. Trill was small for a squirrel, beasts tended to mistake her for a child if they had heard her speak before. Disrespect was hardly new to her.

Tom, who was moving down to the gate, was called back by the vole. Scratching his ear, he muttered something about chopping the branch off as he came back up. It just became a traffic point now that the Marlfox had come in that way. Or at least that's what the vole told him. He greeted Trill with a grin as he came back up the stairs, holding out a paw in greeting. "Welcome t' Redwall, miss."

Tamar stood back with her arms folded over her chest. She had lost her 'center of attention' position since the other squirrel had come and she didn't like it one little bit. "Her name's, Trill," she said by way of introduction to the Abbess.
"Welcum to our h'abbey, miz Trill. Oi bees Abbess Saol," She held out a digging claw to shake the paw of the visitor.

"Thanks." Trill looked at the hand Tom offered her for a moment before taking it. Her grip was nothing special, putting out only as much force as was applied to her own.
When Abbess Saol addressed her she nodded her head again as she had the first time, crossing one arm over the other that was already engaged in order to accept the offered claw.
"Thank you." She said again, not really certain what more to say. Once her paws were released though she reached into her vest and pulled something from one of the many hidden interior pockets and for once it wasn't a knife.
"Made it for you." She offered Abbess Saol a particularly long necklace made of crystal beads of just about every color that they formed in. She was good at making beads but as they were from found materials rather then bought so no more then two or three ever looked alike. She’d been working on it since she had first decided to head to redwall along with a few other items incase she had to buy her way in. The others she reserved for when she was going to ask her questions, the idea that anything was free being almost foreign to her.

"Fur Oi?" Saol took the necklace in her paw and looked at it, studying the crystals with the practiced eye of the daughter of the foremole. "Theez be foin stones, Miz Trill. D'you work 'em yurself to ee necklass?" She held the strand back out towards the squirrelmaid. "Course you don' needs be give'n Oi anythin'. You is welcum hur for as long as you'm wishes t' stay."

OOC: Filler post!
Tom stood aside politely as the gift was offered, nodding in agreement to the mole's words. "Aye, miss, so long as y' don't plan on violence you're welcome to stay." He said so because there was always that rule anyways. The mouse wished to remind everyone of it.

"Have it anyway." Trill didn't feel offended so much as awkward at the thought of reascending the offer of something she had called a gift. That would only make it seem more like a bribe and she had intended to give it away from the start so it was no hardship.
"I made the beads myself." She added, answering the question even though she didn't really have to anymore. It was her way of trying to seem social, or at least less odd then other beast seemed to think she was.

Saol's snout reddened. She was mortified at having possibly caused offense to a guest in her abbey. She pulled back the paw holding the necklace and held it close to her chest. "Thank ee koindly. Twer a luverly gift an' Oi will treasure it gurtly, burr aye." She smiled at the visitor. "Brekist bees jus' gettn' started in ee Cavern 'Ole. Le's all go in an' 'ave sum while et be 'ot, boi okiey."
"What about my testimony? What about the marlfox?" Tamar protested with a hint of complaining in her voice.
Saol looked admonishingly at her friend. "Thurr be beasts goin' to foind 'is trail an' Oi think we is knowin' enough fur the moment. 'Sides ee all think better on a gurt full tummy." As usual her sensible mole logic was unarguable.

Somewhere in the crowd, the hedgehog dibbun's stomach growled audibly as if to make a point at the mention of food. "Sounds like a plan, Mother Abbess." Tom said from where he stood. Everyone, in the resulting turmoil the Marlfox left behind, had forgotten to eat.

"Food would be good." Trill was happy to agree after a season of scavanged goods on the trail. Food had not been scarce but she was not good at campfire cooking and had rarely lite a fire anyway. It was a danger in her mind to have such a clear indication of where you were burning and had avoided them unless she absolutely could not get by with just a blanket.

(('scuse us Trill, we're going to move this along a little bit))
The guest was given all the hospitality Redwall had to offer to a humble traveler, good food and a warm bed in the dormitory all at the request of the Mother Abbess. Tamar however was resentful of the treatment shown to the newcomer squirrelmaid. Mostly for just that reason. Tamar was used to being the only squirrelmaid in the abbey and now there were three. That Scarlet had returned from wherever she was off to and now here was another one. That was one of the main reasons Tamar found herself back on the same battlement the next morning, searching once again for Silas. She wanted to be the first one to welcome him home.

A large, brown furred otter was wandering the ramparts, doing his daily guard watch. He made sure to come out and circle the ramparts everyday since he had returned from his trainging to become Skipper of Otters. He was staring at the sky thoughtfully when he noticed the young squirrelmaid, Tamar out on the walltop. He walked over quietly and stood next to her. Morning, Tamar. Still waiting for that Silas chap to come back eh?
