Tamar turned to look at Trill when she spoke. She was going to say something but then she looked down at the squirrelmaid's paw and saw the knife. She swallowed hard remembering when she had given the beads to Saol. This beast took her gift giving seriously. So Tamar reached out her paw and realized it was trembling. "Thank you." she murmured quietly. She took the sheathed knife in her paw and looked up into Trill's face. Something like an understanding passed between them and it dawned on her what Trill had said, "He could teach me." She turned back to look at Silas. "Could you, teach me?" She asked him.
It was at that moment that Saol entered the room to fetch them for the council, "What you be doin' wiv a knife, Tamer?" She asked with an edge to her voice.
"It was a gift," Tamar emphasized the final word. "from a . . . friend?" She looked back at Trill as if asking her if it was so.
Saol nodded understandingly, "Silas, be you feelin' gurt enough to cum daown to a meetin' in Cavern 'Ole. Tamer, you need ter cum too."

Skipper ran through the halls looking for Lois until he found her by running into her. The impact sent him sprawling to the ground where he layed dazedly for a few moments.

Silas, who was silent as Trill presented her gift, spoke up. "Sure, I can teach ye if you like." the squirrel told Tamar, examining the knife in her paws. He was more skilled in bow and arrows or swords, but he knew a few tricks with the smaller blades as well. As Saol came in and spoke, he nodded, sliding to the side of the bed and swinging his footpaws over the edge, testing his leg to see if he could walk. Standing up, he found he could, after a fashion.
Looking back towards the mole, he informed her, "I'll be there, then..." He decided that even if he didn't prefer meetings, he should attend this one, injury or no. The meeting would be good for Tamar as well. He felt the tension from her, mostly directed at Trill previously, but now it was subdued by the offering. He hoped the two could get along, despite whatever's getting at them He didn't exactly know what was between them, though he had a pretty close guess for Tamar's side of the tension and jealousy.

Trill nodded at the suggestion of friendship, from what she understood of the concept it fit her desired lack of problems with Tamar. She was a bit vague on the details of what exactly would be expected of her in such a pact but figured she could ask once she decided to ask her other questions.
For the moment though she decided to simply fade out of the conversation and see about sitting in on the meeting if possible. She was curious to see how the Redwallers would react to the possibility of a threat. Especially as her own safety and plans were intertwined with there for the moment.

"Woa there, Skip." Lois put out her paw to help the otter up from the ground, "Now, why are you rushin' around like a hare late for a feast?"
Tamar smiled at Silas. She took his paw and pulled his arm around her shoulders so she could support him. "I'll help you downstairs. You shouldn't be putting to much weight on that leg." It made her feel better to be doing something useful. She put the knife in the pocket of her apron and again nodded her thanks to Trill.
Saol watched all this with great interest. She had noticed Trill's agitation at the idea of a meeting and decided it might be best to just let her come along. "Miz Trill you cun cum along too."

The otter took her paw and stood, shaking his head to clear it. Abbess Saol's called a council meeting. She wants you and all the Elders there. I was hoping you could help me round everyone up that needs to be there.

"Right." Silas agreed with Tamar, allowing the squirrelmaid to support him. He was certainly grateful for her help, whether by walking or bandaging his leg wound. He himself noticed how much warmer she felt in comparison to himself as he draped an arm over her. As they walked towards the door, he opened it with his free paw, making sure not to put too much weight on the squirrelmaid either as they walked towards the stairs.

"Of course. I'd be glad to help." Lois walked with Skipper in the direction of the dormitories. "This is about the Marlfox I suppose? I heard that Silas came back without the wolves. Have we heard from the tracking party yet?" These were all questions that would be answered at the meeting but she couldn't help but ask them now.
Tamar was silent as she helped Silas down the stairs, lost in her own thoughts. She wasn't thinking about marlfoxes or battles or threats. She was thinking about how natural it felt to be close to him like this. Maybe there wasn't shame in being a helpmate as she had always thought. She felt strong in supporting him.
Saol stood back and watched, amazed by this change in her friend. Then she glanced out the window and saw the trackers returning. She breathed a quick sigh of relief and hurried down the stairs with the rest of them

Skipper Ronan sighed sadly and shook his head. 'Fraid not, Marm. Not a single bloody word nor sign since they left. I offered to go an' look fer 'em but Abbess Saol just called a council meeting. It was in situations like this that he truly felt the pressure his job and title placed on him.

Silas walked down the stairs beside her, secretly having the same thoughts. As they reached the ground floor, everyone was greeting the arrival of the search party that had just come in a minute ago. They were to attend the meeting as well. Silas opened his mouth to comment upon this, but then closed it again, merely glancing about at everyone, passively trying to see what was going on as they made their way over to Cavern Hole.

Just as he was saying this, Lois heard a commotion from down stairs. It sounded as if someone had just arrived. Possibly the search party? She wanted to rush right down and see but the Abbess had given them a task. "Let's hurry and gather the elders." Most beasts were just waking up and starting to move downstairs for breakfast so this was not a difficult task.
Tamar realized that she and Silas were getting some funny glances and for a time the old Tamar reared its ugly head. Nosy beasts! What did they know? Just because she was helping an injured creature down the stairs didn't mean anything at all. She stiffened a bit and stuck her chin out snootily. They'd been teasing her the whole time he was gone and now he was back and here she was at his side. It was all anybeast expected. She very nearly stepped away from him, but then his tail accidentally brushed against hers and she looked at him. She realized that she didn't care what they thought and she smiled genuinely. She softened again and even leaned a bit closer to him.
None of this escaped the notice of the Mother Abbess. Even though she was busy brushing snow off the shoulders of the trackers, welcoming them back, and thanking them for their service, she allowed herself a smile and a chuckle at Tamar.

Silas did not note the galnces towards them, however, but looked back at Tamar as she moved her head to look at him. She seemed to smile at him, her shoulder already against his pressed in a little closer in some form of silent, discreet affection, if not just a comforting motion. He returned a grin of his own and found himself almost unconsciously helping the action already being performed with his arm, little as it may seem it meant much to the squirrel. The best words were often unspoken, or so it was said. So he left it at that as they entered Cavern Hole, just now feeling the stare of many beasts on the back of his head.

Saol hurried, still smiling, to the abbey leader's chair where she generally sat for meals but on this occasion as she had done before she stood on it so she could be seen by everybeast, "Oi'm vury pleased tha' our tracking pardy 'as returned safe. Le's just wait another mo fur Skipper and Mother Lois to join us wi' the elders."
Tamar's first instinct when his arm tightened about her shoulders was that he must be hurting and need her to support him more. She immediately threw her arm that was closer to him around his back and her opposite paw she placed on his chest. "Are you alright?" She asked, her voice full of concern, her eyes questioning.

Skipper stepped into the room and walked over to is seat along with the other Elders just as Abbess Saol sat down. He looked around at everyone that was there and then turned his full attention to the Abbess, wondering what she had to say on the matter.

Silas looked down into those worried, inquiring eyes, and found something there he hasn't seen before. After a short pause of (It seemed) Epiphanic enlightenment and some sort of hope, he finally found his tongue and spoke. "Yeah, I'm fine." His blue eyes blinked for a moment, then continued their attempt to reassure the squirrelmaid of the warrior's sincerity of his well-being. It was in this manner that they both walked into the meeting in Cavern Hole, most of the beasts already seated around the large table, most of them staring overtly or discreetly at the two. Silas blushed at all of this attention, though he didn't mind it as much.
