((Epiphanic?)) Tamar smiled once again. She didn't know why but suddenly Silas's happiness and well-being seemed the most important things in the world to her. They found seats near the back of the assembly but it still seemed that everybeast was turned around in their places to look at the two squirrels. She chose to ignore it. Tamar was rather disappointed that sitting down meant that Silas needn't have his arm around her shoulders anymore but she contented herself with grabbing one of his paws and holding it tightly in her own.
Saol cleared her throat to regain the attention of all the beasts present. "Hurr, hurr, Thank'ee all fur. . ." But she was interrupted by a rampaging herd of dibbuns who had escaped their caregiver and were hungry for their breakfast. Saol had forgotten when she planned the meeting for the Cavern Hole that everybeast in the abbey would soon be coming down from the dormitories expecting their morning meal. "Lack ee day, cud sumbeast please get ee dibbuns outta 'ere?"
Lois rose again from the bench she had just sat down upon. "I'll take care of it, Abbess." Then she turned to the dibbuns and raised her paws. "Scones with strawberry jam and meadowcream! Come on ye little maggots, last one in the Great Hall is a squashed frog!" The dibbuns swiftly changed direction toward the promised scoff. Before she followed after them Lois gave a slight bow to Saol. "I'll take them out to play in the snow after they've eaten. That'll wash all the stickiness off their paws. Somecreature can fill me in on the details later." From somewhere in the other room a little voice popped up, "Ma Lo bees ee squashed froger!!" Lois smiled and hurried off toward the sound.

OOC: "A sudden, intuitive perception of or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something, usually initiated by some simple, homely, or commonplace occurrence or experience." It seemed to fit at the time. And from his point of view... Eh, you'll see.
Silas sat down with a minor sigh, then felt the squeeze of Tamar's paw. Smirking at the memory of his earlier comment '...Ye got quite a grip...', he turned over his paw so that it was upside-down now, palm in palm with the squirrelmaid's own. He himself felt this rushing warmth, this silent happiness that coursed through him. They would certainly have to talk more often... The squirrel attemted to clear his head and adopt a 'business' mentality for the meeting, the key word being attempted. He squeezed Tamar's paw gentl back in reply as everyone waited for the continuation of the meeting.

((Thanks I figured it was somethin' like that (context clues) but it didn't come up in my word processor dictionary)) "Burr, that bee foin. Naow, Oi'd loike our trackin' party t' give us'ns a report of wot they found in ee wood." Saol said her piece and then opened up the floor for the shrew who had lead the tracking party.
Tamar looked down at her paw and Silas's. She too remembered how hard she had squeezed his paw that day before he left. She smiled at the memory. She wasn't really paying attention to anything that her friend the Abbess was saying. She'd rather forgotten what all the fuss was about.

The shrew stood up from his seat, nodded in thanks to the Abbess, and began. "Friends, while we went to bring this Marlfox to justice, we have only found these..." He sighs and gestures to the pewer bowl and two pawrings sitting on the table. "We found a trail as well, but we found it to..."
The shrew's words seemed to fade into a murmur for Silas, the squirrel's thoughts clearly elsewhere. He shook his head and blinked, but that simple action did not serve to do anything. He now knew one thing for sure, though, and his mind kept wandering back to it. He sighed, and tried his best to pay attention.

Skipper turned his eyes on the shrew as he started speaking, listening to every word he said. He wanted to know everything he could and get as much information as possible before he went out to look for the missing scouting party.

"Thank ee, Dagro," Saol told the shrew and then she address the company once again. "Most ov ee already 'eard, Tamer's story o' wot her witnessed. So Oi won' make 'er cum up n' tell it again. But not alla us'ns 'ave 'eard wha' 'appened to Silas. So Oi'll ask 'im to cum for'd an' share nex'."
Tamar looked up when her own name was mentioned and was eternally grateful that she didn't have to get up and share her story. Not because she was afraid of public speaking but because she wasn't sure she remembered all of her story now or if she could tell it in any kind of intelligible fashion. When Saol mentioned Silas, Tamar, like everybeast else in the room, turned to look at him. She smiled encouragingly, although she didn't want to let go of his paw.

At Tamar's name being mentioned, Silas glanced from the edge of his vision at her, then snapped back into reality, at least partially, when he was called upon. With all eyes on him, he stood, letting his paw fall to his side, and began.
"Uh yeah... sure... "he cleared his throat and stopped stalling. "Now, er, I left with Alarrin and Selesa a few days ago, as most of you already know. After we went north up the path about five, near six miles, we met some travelers, who in turn were being chased about by a horde of vermin." He paused. "They, as well as ourselves, were attacked by them. So we, uh, we ran..." He sighs here, not willing to admit that he, Silas M. Hawkeye, ran from danger of any sort. "I was told to tell all of you that the horde was near, and to be on the lookout for them. It was on my way back when I encountered the Marlfox and fought him shortly afterwards. Then I came here." He stood silently, awaiting questions. He thought himself to be an 'okay' public speaker, not so bad as to stutter at length or say 'ummmm...' yet still somehow not fit to adress an assemblage with a sense of formality.

There were several gasps and cries of alarm when Silas mentioned a horde. One marlfox was disquieting enough, but a whole vermin horde was positively frightening. Tamar was just enjoying listening to his voice till he got to that point but then she was jerked into reality. The abbey was in danger.
Saol's snout turned white with horror. She had only just been named Abbess and she was already being tested in the worst way possible. She tried to think what others in her place had done. She knew one thing for sure she must remain calm and be strong for all of her creatures. "Sirs an' Marms," she addressed them. "Simmer daown there. We're not gonna get anythin' done thisaway. Silas, 'ow many vermin beasts are there?"

Silas quietly eyed each beast seated, examining them as they were sent in a mild panic. He himself would not give in to such things. He wasn't better than them... Just that he was used to it somewhat. "There's only about twoscore, Abbess, last I saw." He said, now flexing his other paw, resisting the urge to fidget. "If we don't panic, and act now, we can stop them." He said, the general plan coming to his brain, despite the slight *Ahem* distraction, which has all but faded away as the warrior side of the squirrel took over.

The Skipper nodded in agreement and stood up to face the assembly. Silas is right. If there's only twoscore then we can beat them back if we act now. The first thing we need to do is make sure that every one of our gates is shored up well and locked tight. I'll have my otters see to that, Abbess Marm. I also reccomend taking inventory on food and drink just in case.

"Thankee Maister Silas an' Skip. Oi thinks ee both speak woizly. Skipper can see to ee wallguard an' Soilas if you would pleese prepare our defenders. Ee be ready for yon varments when they cum to our abbey, boi Okey!" The abbesses words were met with general applause and cheers.
Tamar looked up at the warrior standing beside her. She felt a surge of pride. She longed to take his paw once again but restrained herself by putting her own into her apron pocket there it came in contact with the knife that Trill had given her. She would learn to use it. She would help to defend the abbey at Silas's side.

The large otter nodded and bowed respectfully. As you wish, Abbess Marm. I'll see to the wallguard immediately. I believe that is a very wise idea. He turned toward a group of otters in the corner of the room. You 'eard the Abbess, cullies! Let's git ter work and get them gates shored up an' them walls guarded!

Amidst the applause and general approval of the plan, Silas spoke his final words of the meeting after a few minutes of pause for the noise to subside. "I hope everybeast knows that this is not a task to be taken lightly. Redwall has stood all these seasons not because of these walls around us, but the beasts inside. They did what we are preparing to do again... I leave you with that thought." He sighed inwardly, thinking of how much work his task would require. And in the winter, too! But, he would make sure everyone knew how to defend themselves when the time came. He just hoped that that time wouldn't come at all. But, wishful thinking only passed the time, it seemed. He sat back down, his piece being spoken.

"Oi think that bees all for thee moment. There be breakist in ee great 'all if'n those dibbuns didn't eat it all oop. An' we'll keep roight on preparin' while ee goes 'bout our other duties." Saol dismissed them to their morning meal with a wave of her paw and walked over toward Silas and Tamar. Tamar stood and steped back as the abbess addressed the warior, "You'm got a plan fur 'ow to get these peaceful folk to learn t' fight fur their abbey?"

The Skipper beaconed to his otters and they all left Cavern Hole and went outside. They immediately began working on the gates. Some worked on shoring and strengthenging the gates while the others did guard duty on the wall.
