The warlord allowed his daughter time to take in all that was in the throne room, before he continued into the chamber. Vrelt escorted Tallula over to his throne, which was very large in comparison to the current ruler, indicating the father of the first Darkfang, was extremely overweight. Which supported the ancient records of the Pure Ferret rulers of this island.
Vrelt let go of his daughter's paw and lifted her up to sit on the throne, smiling as he did so. It was too tall for the young mink to climb into herself, and Vrelt thought it was fitting that she was rising from a slave, to the daughter of one of the most powerful vermin leaders now ruling. Then, something struck him as Tallula sat upon that throne; she would take over ruling Riftgard after his death. The warlord didn't know why he hadn't thought of that earlier, but the mink would be the heir to this fortress and everything that went with it. Her first taste of royalty was even more fitting, as she would eventually sit there as the Ruler of Riftgard.

The mink giggled when the ferret picked her up and sat her on top of the throne, by now the tears she that had streamed down her face before where now no more than dried streaks, giving her muzzle a cheetah-like look. Now her mood was much better and improved. She liked the throne. A little cold and a bit hard, but she would note it as a possible great place to sleep on or something. (Which ironically knowing how Vrelt Darkfang is. Is what he possibly does often while sitting on the throne. xD )

Vrelt winked at his daughter, "You'll grow into it." He didn't know why exactly he said anything, for Tallula wouldn't understand him. At least she would see his playful demeanor, though he wasn't so sure he wished Conan to see it. Vrelt had nearly forgotten that the pirate was still with them, once he was caught up thinking about his daughter's future, which was brightening with every passing minute. The warlord finally turned away from Tallula and pointed to the door, "Guards, leave us." With his command the two guards saluted and left the throne room. Vrelt now addressed Conan, "Do you now anybeast who knows how to speak one of the Western languages?"
The Venture made great time on its voyage from Sampetra to the island of Riftgard, thanks to favorable winds and bright, warm weather, as well as the skillful leadership of Captain Draygo Englehorn. He had no wish to stay anywhere near Sampetra, and those who had command of it, especially Drask Darkfang and Walon Vau. Therefore, once the ferret received his payment for transporting his passengers to the tropical island, he set an immediate course to Riftgard, eager to take his next job. This time he wanted to take a job from Vrelt Darkfang, since that ferret was always the highest paying of all his employers. The Venture was mere minutes away from arrival to Riftgard....

Conan had watched the entire thing. He had always thought of himself as cold hearted sea scum. The terror of the sea that came from the Land of Ice and Snow. A true devil of the sea!
But seeing the already locking bond between the ferret and mink was for some reason. Melting the ice around his heart. He had never seen anything like this in the Land of Ice and Snow. Hell, his own mother never had any real bond with him. She mearly just "cared" for him until he was old enough to leave and go out on his own. She had never said she loved him or gave him any hugs and the such.
The fox grinned at the mink. "Lucky girl...." He thought as he continued to watch the two smile and laugh.
When the ferret turned to tell the guards to leave, he quickly snapped out of it and kept his grinless, serious look on him. The 'soldier at attention' look as he called it. When the ferret told him if he knew anybeast that might be able to speak the mink's language. He mearly shook his head slightly. "I had been ter' a lot of places in my life as a pirate. The North, The South, The West, but i had never met anybeast who could understan' her language. Hell. As far as i know. Anybeast who has tried that may as well be dead by now... Even the Northern parts of the New World is deadly."
(I'm so sorry Vrelt i was not here yesterday. T_T I was badly sick. Though a crapload of Halls, Salt water, biotene mouthwash, and peniclian pills had now made me feel much better now. I'll without a doubt be able to reply to your posts tonight this day hopefully. ^^)

In a very short time Jayne that managed to make herself an invaluable member of the Venture's crew. She was at home in the rigging as any of the other sea hardened beasts and in some cases was actually better suited to the top sail jobs because of her slight stature and relative weight.
She was there now having just helped to take in the last of the sails for docking when she caught a whiff of the ship that they were coming up beside. It was unmistakably a slave ship.
The ferretmaid swung down to the deck as if she'd been doing just that sort of trapeze work all her life. The sea air had been good for her. She had filled out and had a more healthy glow about her. Lumpy fed the crew well. Jayne's paws were still work hardened but it was from work that she enjoyed and received wages for. She worked hard and earned the respect of her crewmates but she was still careful around the Captain.
He had freed her, saved her really, but she could tell he was still rather uncomfortable with having her on deck. It may have just been the fact that she was the only female member of the crew compounded by her being a ferret. Then there was the kiss. Jayne wasn't sure who had initiated it. She had only gone in to get the Captain's dishes after supper one night to bring them back down to the galley. . . . but now wasn't the time to think about that. Jayne stepped up beside the Captain as he stood at the rail. "So this is Riftgard?"

"That complicates things even more." If the pirate had never met a beast who could speak one of those languages, then Vrelt was sure there would be nobeast who could here either. He could always start by teaching Tallula his language, but he would rather have a more educated beast do that. Perhaps that mapmaker stoat, Nolan, would have better luck teaching his daughter, he seemed intelligent in comparison to most vermin.
The captain was more cautious around Jayne than he was a raging storm, which she obviously realized from his unusual behavior when she was near him. Draygo was never able to see the ferretmaid as the thin, frightened creature he found stowed away on his ship, nowadays he had trouble keeping his eyes away from her. As sailors always said, a female on a ship brings bad luck, Draygo found that to be partially true. Having one aboard distracted him from his duties as captain, she received specially treatment from all the other crew members, and the Venture could not take a distracted crew and captain for long. On the other paw, Jayne was hardworking, easily as good as any beast on his ship, sometimes even better. Draygo often weighed these things in his mind, over the series of days of their voyage from Sampetra.
Draygo snapped back in reality, as if he was finally noticing Jayne's presence. "Aye. Much colder up here than Akkladia and Sampetra." Without turning to acknowledge the ferretmaid standing next to him, the captain told her a bit of the seabeast version of Riftgard. "This place is much more controlled than Akkladia, not as populated as Sampetra, and without a doubt is the safest place for seabeasts like us to stay. The Darkfangs have always managed to keep on the good side of pirates and the like." His accent made some of what he said a bit hard to understand, though Jayne would more than likely catch all that he said.

Conan felt slightly ashamed of himself. He had always tried his hardest to be the best pirate under the command of Vrelt he could possibly be yet he still kept screwing up in some way and dispite almost all of them being no more than minor screw ups. They still hit him all the same. That he should be doing a much better job than he was now....
Tallula as always didn't understand a single word the ferret and fox were saying to each other, but in someway or by feeling. She knew they were talking about her. Maybe they were trying to find a way to communicate with her? Only time would give her the answer....

Jayne listened to every word the captain said but her eyes were rivited to a small item that seemed to have been left, forgotten on the dock: chains. The sight of the chains chilled the former slave more than the weather ever could. There were only three reasons she could think of for them to be lying there empty. First and most preferably, one of the slaves may have been set free. Second, the journey may have been too rough for some poor beast and so the body had been unchained and thrown overboard, finally free beyond the gates of dark forest. The last option almost made Jayne sick to think of: those chains could be waiting there to be yet put to use. Jayne rubbed her wrists and unconsciously moved a step closer to Draygo. He surely wouldn't let them put her back in chains. "Aye, Sir." She answered distractedly and then she couldn't help but ask, "Do you go ashore alone, Captain, or is the crew free to take their leave as well?" She was debating what she would rather do herself. Surely they couldn't take her away if she stayed aboard the Venture but what if they did try to come and take her right of the boat and the Captain wasn't here. Then she would want to be with him. She finally looked away from the chains back up to the ferret beside her, her eyes nearly as fearful as they had been the night she had first met him.
((i figure she's got to be with him when he goes to see Vrelt so she can see Tallula and try to talk to her.))

Vrelt contemplated what to do next in regard to his daughter, of course there was the issue of getting her proper clothing for a warlord's daughter, but there were more important things as well. Foremost on that list was getting Tallula something to eat, she looked starved, due to her harsh life as a slave. Vrelt turned his icy gaze back to Conan again, "Go order my servants to prepare a large meal for the three of us." Though the ferret did not know the first thing about taking care of a child, there was a connection growing steadily between him and Tallula, which Vrelt could not explain. Maybe it was instinct, but he knew vermin normally did not feel anything for their children. That ruled out the possibility of instinct, apparently.
"The crew is free to leave the ship at port, but a small group will remain aboard to guard the Venture." Draygo always left the veteran crew member, Lumpy, in charge of the ship the rest of the crew went ashore, and where Lumpy went, so did Choi. Those two were often the only volunteers to stay aboard the Venture whenever they arrived at a port. The captain stepped away from railing, turning away from Jayne and heading back to the helm, in order to oversee the their docking. Mr. Hayes was at the helm, calmly bringing the Venture in. Draygo stood at his shoulder, allowing his most trusted sailor to end the voyage to Riftgard.

Conan saluted with his cutlass. "Right away sir." and was off as a fast walking pace out of the throne room. Oh, did he love the kitchens of Riftgard. Full of all the food and alcohol a beast could ever hope to get. The servant were pretty sexy too. Oh, if only they were allowed to touch them....
Tallula watched almost completely silently as the arctic fox pirate left the room. He was strange to her. He didn't look anything like the orange and red furred foxes she had ever seen. In fact. None of the foxes she had seen look anywhere near as tough and savage looking as the strange fox.....

Jayne stayed at the railing for another moment thinking. Then she ran across the deck after the captain. Up in the rigging or standing still Jayne could almost pretend to be male. She was dressed like the rest of the crew after all and did her work as well as any of them. But running across a flat surface like the deck made it obvious by the swing of her hips that she was a maid.
"Captain! Captain wait!" She tried franticly to think of a reason for him to take her along when he went ashore. "This Darkfang, he's the brother of the other one we had on board with that Queen Moll, right? I'd - well . . . I'm kind of curious to see if they're anything alike."
Her first thought after that was, what a lame excuse. And then with a jolt she remembered, That Drask was a ferret. This Darkfang is a ferret. What is the captain going to think of me? That I want to see and be seen by this other male? Does he know that he is the only male I've ever cared about? Then a rather devious thought followed right behind, A little jealousy might not be a bad thing.

Vrelt turned back to his daughter as Conan left his chambers, still at a loss as how to communicate with her. After they ate, he was going to track down an educated beast, wait! He forgot completely about Romsca, who was an expert map maker like Nolan! She could just as easily teach Tallula his language, probably even better than Nolan could. This brought a smile to the warlord's face; all the pieces fell in to the right place for once. The doors to his chambers burst open as one of his officers came into the throne room, out of breath and ruffled looking. Although he seemed to be in a rush, the weasel did not forget his place and he bowed to Vrelt. "Your Majesty, The Venture has just entered the port! Captain Englehorn has finally arrived!" Several months ago, the two ferrets made a deal; Draygo would provide all the information he could about Drask Darkfang and all the happenings at the nearby islands, along with the usual cargo of exotic goods that Draygo always managed to bring in. Vrelt paid the ferret a generous amount of money for these services in the past, and the business between the two was always profitable for both of them. "Have Englehorn brought to this room once he has docked." The officer saluted, "Aye, Sir!" With that, the weasel turned and hurried back out of the chambers.
Draygo could not imagine why in the world Jayne would want to see another Darkfang, even if Vrelt was the better of the two, but the ferretmaid didn't know that. The captain did not turn his attention away from Hayes as he responded. "You may come along. Though you'll probably be disappointed." Draygo didn't want Jayne to get in the way right now; or was there something more than that? He certainly didn't want her to meet Vrelt Darkfang, for the Ruler of Riftgard was notorious about his dealings with females. He didn't want the ferretmaid to meet Vrelt, but the captain would allow her all the freedoms of the rest of the crew, even though he didn't like it.
The crew of the Venture tied the lines down as soon as the skillful paws of Mr. Hayes brought the ship in. They were all eager to get off this old ship and enjoy themselves on land for a change. The gangplank was lowered, but before they charged off, Englehorn stopped them. "I need five beasts to stay aboard and watch the ship. Volunteers?" Lumpy and Choi both raised their paws, but none of the rest did. Therefore, the captain was forced to select three more to stay. Once that task was over, the rest of the crew hastily left the Venture, heading straight to the taverns.

Tallula made a look of confusion at Vrelt's constant facial changes. Dark look, smile, dark look, smile, dark look, smile. She was starting to wonder if he had his head on straight, or maybe the sudden news of him having a daughter may have been a littlest bit overwhelming. Though of course. She was a little overwhelmed herself act the fact she was lucky enough to encounter her long lost father! The father that was never there! The father that was not of her world and was an outsider to her kind! What were the chances of that? Almost slim to none. She was lucky she had fallen right into his paws, and she knew it.

When the captain favorably answered her request, Jayne smiled brightly. "Thank you, Sir." She watched him for a moment longer as he oversaw the docking. How could I not be disappointed with any other beast? Then, she tried to pretend that she hadn't just been staring dreamily at Draygo as she hurried down to her cabin to ready herself for departure from the ship.
It was the cabin she had shared with Queen Moll on the trip from Akkladia to Sampetra. She couldn't really have moved down to the bunk room with the other crew members but sometimes she wished she could. She could never quite feel like she was one of them and she worried about what they might say about her behind her back. She worried that they might disrespect the Captain for her sake.
All the same Jayne took her place beside the rest of the crew while the Captain gave his last instructions before their shore leave. She was almost afraid he'd break his promise and choose her to stay aboard with Lumpy and Choi. The stoat standing next to her, a friendly lad called Flip nudged her, "You headed t'the tavern t'get a drink wi' the rest o' us."
"Er, no." Again she searched her mind for an excuse, "I wanted to get a closer look at the palace." She looked over at Jimmy and smiled. "You lads have fun. I'll tell you all about it after." Jimmy had been her best friend since she had come aboard, almost like a brother and she wondered if he had any idea of her motives now.

The ferret warlord could do nothing else except to wait for the return of Conan and the food, as communication was nearly impossible with his daughter for the time being. Vrelt felt like pacing around the throne room, to contemplate all that had happened and all that was going on right now. He could not believe that within this last hour he discovered he had a half mink daughter from the Far Western Lands. It never crossed his mind that anything like this would ever happen to him.
Jimmy nodded, "Don't have to much fun without me, Jayne." With that, the young weasel took off down the gangplank with the rest of the crew, all heading to the taverns. Like Jayne, he felt that they were like family, maybe an older sister he never had. Jimmy would never have guessed that two beasts from two extremely different walks of life would get along so well. He knew that it had something to do with the Venture, and how all the crew felt a great comradeship with each other, making it a very unique ship indeed.
Draygo was left standing near the gangplank, along side Mr. Hayes and Jayne, the only two beasts that would accompany him to the fortress. The captain did not wait on Hayes and Jayne to follow him, and he started off down the gangplank as well, with his paws in the pockets of his light brown jacket, and his hat pulled down tightly over his head. Draygo was widely known by this habit, and many other seabeasts knew of this ferret that had many different occupations.
